Right, so the recent "what MPG u get bro?" thread has made me mad. I get about 250 miles a tank (brimmed, reset mile counter). I can only manage 30mpg when coasting down hill (journey avg). Typical town driving is about 16-19. After an hour driving, trying my hardest to get the highest mpg I can on country roads + motorway I struggle to see 25mpg.

Any thought on what could be causing it? Broad question I know, but most S3/2.0tfsi cars seem to be doing much better than me!

Im not too fussed, just want to make sure the engine doesn't have an issue. No faults logged via Torque and everything runs fine otherwise.

I get 23mpg to 25mpg all day long at 90mph

Your MPG does seem a bit low if you've being driving for economy..

I assume you're not a big fat knacker and that you don't lug loads of heavy kit around either ??

Brakes binding slightly ?
Tyre pressures
decent airfilter and plugs ?

Have you tried banging in a dose of something like cataclean ?

Nope not a big fatty, just me in an empty car :) Tyre pressures checked every 2 weeks, plugs changes less than 2k miles ago and made no difference, air filter isn't fresh, might check this.

Maf sensor
air filter
fuel filter
boost leak

there tha main issues i can think off that can effect mpg

I think it most likely will be induction either air filter/boost leak. Better go check and change.

Im struggling to understand what you said pal ?

250 from a tank, I used to get 450 from a 2.8 4mo, now get 650-700 from 1.9tdi .
Definitely change your air filter, fuel filter and run some injector cleaner through it as well.

U might as well add a remap to that as ur mpg can't get any worse surely m8 lol ;)

lol true, but ... dont want a remap until im sure im in tip top condition and im very slowly gathering stage2+ parts so not bothered about stage1 remap.

I've got the same car and doing my daily commute, I get 300 miles out of a full tank.

Lol.

I get 28mpg now but I do drive like Miss Daisy.....occasionally.

Exactly :) ... I tell you what ... this thread should have been called "hey all people running higher power, come in and tell me how much better your MPG is than my stock car and make make rage even more and sad at the tought of my mpg when I get my stage2+ stuff together"

:haudrauf:

haha

It's just to make you go and get all the mods done.
All part of a conspiracy!

98% of my driving is arround town, and mostly on rush hours. so i don't find it that bad actually. and i like to press the loud pedal :D

£20 gives me around 85-100miles city driving is that good?

I'd say most of mine is out of town, and fairly constant speeds(apart from the occasional opportunity for a blast),so that's why mine "looks" quite good.

The trackday last year got it down to way less than that.

It's very easy to use the torque and low rpm to save fuel if you want, and still have the power if you need.

You sir, are a danger to my wallet.

Once again, you see what happened to me when I joined this place and VAGOC.

Both have a LOT to answer for!

Yea im used to it from other expensive hobbies acquired from forums (audio :( ). Most other forum users don't provide handy tips on self justification and dealing with the missus tho ;)

Btw, bit OT but have you any exp of the Neuspeed p-flo? You had the VWR? The p-flo seems like a bargain. My air filter needs upgrading so thinking I might as well intake rather than just slap a new panel filter in the box.

Audio.....another favourite here as well, although it's taken a bit of a back seat(!) recently, but I do love tube amps and Krells.

Anyway....The Neuspeed gets a good rep generally, and I think that if you want the last few grams of air you'd go with the latest intakes, but you'd be unlikely to be disappointed with the Neuspeed.

CAIs are essential for higher levels of tune, and I don't think there's any way around that as the stock intake piping is quite restrictive.

Tubes, the thorn in my side, stabbing my bank account with their glorious sound/cost (sigh) currently running TS7236 and some Mullards in a headphone amp. Massive bang for buck. PM me if you want another hobby, high-end headphone audio is amazing.

Yea i'd go with the Neuspeed super-extendo-tube-CAI-attachment if I needed it later for CAI. Saves forking out the whole lot at once.

At like half the price of the others, the p-flo seems cracking value, just ... must be something wrong with it :S lol
