Hi,
i could really do with some help this, or any advice to help me make the right choice.

Ive been looking at S3s but found ill need at least 12k for anything decent, which isnt an option as i need a car asap.

So, i need an idea of what i could get for 8k
been looking at 2.0 tdi 170 s line which seems to fit the budget, just not seeing any i like.

any help appreciated, thanks

If you were looking at S3, then I'd be looking at 2.0T models. They will be cheaper than the diesel and you will get more spec and lower mileage for your money...

I just recently purchased my 2006 A3 3 door S-Line Quattro with 62K on the clock, full audi service history and came with a years warranty for just over £8K (from a trader, never will I buy private!). I was also looking at a 170 version but without the quattro for a similar price but no quattro. I did have to shop around for a while but I think I was being a bit too specific on the spec I wanted.

+1 you could pick up a mint 2.0T in that range and still have some money left over for a remap.

thanks for replying

i have looked at 2.0t s3 's before but not found any within my budget
Searching autotrader, gumtree, pistonheads, ebay regurlarly.

gonna just take longer than i thought to find the right one.

I picked up a late 2010 A3, Quattro Diesel with 170bhp at the weekend for only £8900. The only issue was high mileage it had 110k on the clock but came with a full Audi Service History, Sat Nav etc... I'm hoping most of the miles were spent on the motorway!

Depends on the year, either £270 or £440 a year roughly depending on the age.

Can't remember switch over date.

Just do what i did and buy a mint condition low millage 2007 corsa VXR for £7000 from a lad in Ireland and then swap it with your trader brother for a mint condition A3 S-line 170 diesel :icon_thumright:

p.s this might not work for everyone......

I was going to say has everyone forgot about the 3.2! I have had mine 3 months and have covered about 4000 miles and loved everyone of them. Mine is a 2006 56 so its the higher tax bracket. IMO if you have money to buy an A3 sod the expense for the car tax once you have paid it you have nothing to worry about. And the S Line 3 door 3.2's with good spec can be had for simillar or slightly cheaper than the same spec/miles of a 2.0t 3-door. I put between 50 - £60 fuel a week and no doubt it would be approx the same if i had the 2.0t. I waited for a manual but a slick look dsg here

I agree, I got my 2006 S-Line 2.0TFSI Quattro (A3 not S3, only 60bhp difference) with 56k miles, FSH on for under £8k

How much was it going for?

nice but a bit over budget, if i was to spend 9k i would just save for an S3

Why don't you see if he'll take 8k for it? It's been on a few time, my A3 I got from eBay was up for 5k. After bartering with the seller I got it for £3,400. If you don't ask you don't get...

Check around insurances first, that's what I did. Thought my insurance on a 2.0TFSI would be through the roof, shopped around and got it cheaper than my 1.4TSi Golf I was getting rid of

i am so annoyed right now, was about to go look out this tomorrow set on buying it - then someone beats me to it :/
did i miss out on a bargain?

+1 for the 2.0T . I bought an 06 s-line 3dr. Nothing against S3 owners, but at for the price difference i'd take an A3 2.0TFSI over the S3 any day. Bang for buck (in audi terms, I could have got an Evo).
