Bluefin opinion...

Now that's interesting I didnt know they provide different maps - I'm on stage 2. Need to give them a call ...

Officially they don't, but if you say you're not happy with the performance/characteristics of the one they've provided then they'll give you something closer to what you're looking for... i.e. more low down torque, etc etc.

OK, spoke to Superchips who wouldn't confirm if I had been sent the manual map or not but sent me out a new map. Installed on car and what a difference it makes, happy with the end result. What I have noticed though is that sometimes when I accelerate it takes about 5 seconds to pull away, I can hear the turbo spooling and its like a little delay. This might of been present before and could be a characteristic of the DSG box but I'm only just noticing it more now because of the remap, any information from people with the DSG and Bluefin would be great

Glad to hear things are better, but 5 seconds to pull away??? Are you sure, because I'd be almost at 60 in that time.

What do you mean by "pull away"? Surely not that your car now sometimes takes about 5 seconds to move from standstill when you press the accelerator, or to react and speed up when already rolling?

Not from standstill, I mean to react and speed up. It's kind of hard to describe if I'm honest mate

5 seconds to react and speed up is just as bad. Half a second delay can be normal at times, while the box sorts itself out with the rpm of your engine, but anything more than a second then I'd be having it looked at.

Is it really 5 seconds?? That's a hell of a long time.

Would need a better explanation of what is happening to say whether it might be normal.

I've tried my best to describe it, it's hard to describe. Might not be 5 seconds but definitely over 1 second, it's like when you put your foot down and the kickback doesn't kick straight in. The turbo spools and then off it goes

Is the car changing down a gear when this happens?

I'm not sure to be honest, can't say I've tool notice of what gear it's in. You think if it is changing down its normal?

Yep. If you are pressing the gas hard enough for the box to decide to change down a gear or two then you can get a second of no power at all while it rev matches, and then you get a bit of a jolt when the power comes back. But this should only happen if it's dropping a gear, otherwise acceleration should be instant.

Thanks Ads, I'm guessing it could be that then. The car is at home now and I've come away working, will test it out when next home but your description sounds spot on to what I'm experiencing mate

No worries mate, let us know how you get on.

Its me being a dope, it drops gear usually 2 so that's what the delay is. Thanks Ads

Haha.

To get around this delay you should do the following....... as you press down hard on the gas also press the downshift paddle (maybe a split second after) on your steering wheel. This will obviously switch you to manual mode for a while but you'll have no delay as it drops a gear and the power will be there immediately.

I always do this if I want to do a quick and speedy overtake or just want to accelerate very quickly while on the move.

It'll probably take you a couple of go's to get the timing of the gas pedal press and paddle downshift spot on, but once you do you'll have seamless downshifts every time.

Thanks for the advice buddy, will give that a try today. Not drove car since remap much as been working away, got a rare day off today so getting it mini valleted and going for a long drive haha

Yep, give it a go.

It's stuff like this that makes me laugh when people say "I don't like DSG/Autos because they are less 'involving' than a manual". Yeah, DSG is less involving if you just plant your foot all the time, but to get the best out of the box you've got to learn all its little quirks and use the throttle/paddles to get most from it.

For me, a manual is far more basic. All you've got to do it press a clutch and make sure you're in second gear most of the time when blasting around bends and in and out of traffic!

I use the paddles quite a lot bit just never thought of switching to manual when putting my foot down in auto, will definitely be giving this a go today and hopefully have the hang of it by the end of the day ha. Thanks for the tip mate
