Hi all, as you have probably read before, my build week is the first week in July (ordered 23rd March) and dealer tells me today, that is set in stone. Therefore it is likely that the car will not arrive until the 1st week in August or the week before.

My wife wants me to get Audi to hold onto it until the 1st September in this case to get the new reg but a lot of me just wants the car...very impatient.

As I have no ability to make my own decisions, what would you lot do? Just get the 13 plate and enjoy having a new plate for 3/4 weeks or wait just a bit longer and have 6 months on a new plate.

Plus that is another 3 months from now whereas I could have the car in only 2...painful decision.

Thanks SJW for advice on No Smoking pack, I have asked the dealer to change this.

Tough decision, I feel your pain!

Personally, I'd wait the 3/4 weeks for the new plate, you've already waited this long, what's another 3/4 weeks? Plus you'll then have a whole 6 months of new-car.

I know it shouldn't affect car value but come re-sale time, there is no denying that a newer plate bodes for a better sale. My A3 is a January 2007 but sits on a 56 plate, and I certainly wish my owner had waiting that bit longer to get the new plate.

I had exactlty the same dileman, mid July build week with availability early/mid August....for me was easy..... wait for a 63 plate as on holiday for nearly three weeks in August and 63 plate will be partial personal plate as matches my year of birth.

As we have almost identical builds except engine I suggest we meet up for a 1st September A3 SB Daytona drive past along the A12/M25.....now that would look coo....l two Daytonas side by side cruising along the motorway at 70ish

Thanks for all of your responses...I think 1st September it is then...wow, I think my neighbours think I was lying when I told them I had bought a new car "well, where is it then!"

An A12/M25 cruise sounds good to me! I must admit, it will take another 20 ish years before the plates catch up to my year of birth...looking forward to getting that 82 plate!

I'm curious, what was the advice given on the non smoking pack you acted on?

I think not to bother choosing it, as all it does is remove the ashtray (which is a separate piece anyway) and put a plastic plug in the cigarette lighter socket. I've specced it already, but I'm not too bothered about the ashtray thing. Might ask my dealer if he has a spare one knocking around when I pick mine up though.

Spot on...exactly. Apparently there is no real difference apart from the fact that they just don't bother to give you a nice looking cup/ashtray...that retails for £75.00 on ebay!!

Blimey Cemerson, you didn't mess around with the options list! Just seen your spec...wow!

I figured if I was going to spend the money on a new car, I'm going to make it 'futureproof' and have everything I want! Intending to keep this one for a long while

SuffolkAM, Ahhhhh, the agony of choice.
keep the misses happy or an early toy!

My build week is 32 (2nd week in aug) so my agony of choice has been whipped away form me.

Hello SAM,

Your welcome. I cannot take the credit for the switch from non-smoking to smoking pack. It was great advice from others in the snagging list thread.

Personally, I would rather have the 63 plate for the next 6 months rather than 3-4 weeks tops on a 13 plate. You could go down the road of MJCourtney's suggestion of a private plate. As jb0o says, you have waited this long, another 3-4 weeks in waiting for your car will fly by in August.

If you have bought the car outright and plan to keep for a set period to then privately sell, the plate will have some bearing on the sale value. If you are leasing (PCP) then you may find holding out to the new plate not as important. I am not too sure what reduction you would get in the balloon payment. Perhaps another £500 off the future value at the end of the term. Somebody familiar with this may be able to give more clarity on this.

I agree with your wife on this.

I noticed Cemerson's spec the other day. It would be easier for him to put down what was not chosen! :)

Real name is Matt by the way...Sam is my wife! Looks like I will be holding out until 1st September...91 days to go I think. I wonder how they treat your car when they have it in storage for a month

Hello Matt, I called you SAM abbreviating SuffolkAudiMan. Coincidence SAM happens to be your wife's name. Lol.

I'm not too sure what the situation would be with Audi for storage. Perhaps someone on here as experienced already and can tell you...

I'd imagine they would store the car outside in the same protective materials it came off the boat with. They'd just delay the PDI.

They typically wouldn't do the PDI of most cars until the day or 2 before delivery anyway

Hello Steve, ha ha, yes I figured you didn't actually know my wife's name...if you did, I would want to know why!!?!

Thanks for the comments re storage...I'm just worried the car will lose it's just been built feel if it is left in the wind and rain for a month...I don't want to miss out on that feeling

I am sure it won't loose that feeling after a couple of weeks, I will be in the same situation.......anyway the new car smell comes out of an aersol can at PDI, you can ask for an extra squirt as an optional extra for £75, see page 67 of the current brochure

Is there a newer brochure. The one I have is the MY14 version and page 67 is a picture of a boot. Does the new brochure include the Autoglym etc then?
