Another cambelt question

Hi guys,

Just a quick question, Ive got an S3 with 43k miles on it. I know the cambelt should be changed either 5 years or 75k, the 5 years is up this month, can it wait a month, I will struggle to get it done this month as I am quite busy with work.

I asked my local mot guy he said it should'nt be an issue in fact he advised me to wait till the car was on 75k miles but id rather not do that, thought id check with you guys as you will probably be more knowledgeable with Audi's.

I don't think a month would be an issue what so ever but I certainly wouldn't wait for the 75k miles

Thanks I thought as much, I think waiting for 75k would be asking for trouble!

Yer these are only advised figures and we all face this 50/50 dilemma but as is always said it far cheaper than a new engine
but belts can go at any time whether there 1 day old (highly unlikley)or 75k.
I'm in the same boat with my A3 it on 35k and nearly 5years old.

When were you planning on getting yours done?

I'll wait till April 2014 next year when it's next sevice is due.It will be 4 month past it,s 5th birthday by then I know but as I only use it at weekends I,m more than willing to take the risk.If it goes before then I'll only have my self to blame.

As they say, it's always good to be safe rather than sorry. A month etc shouldn't be a problem, in fact if I was you, I would probably push it to 50K if you can get to that mark within next couple of months (don't hold me to it )

My 2007 A3's on 73,000 miles now and it's still not been done.

Really need it doing ASAP

Still need to get it done though.

Yeah mines an 08 so its due now. I will get it booked in late this month or July and just do it. So is that belt, follower and waterpump??

Mine was 7 years 70k before I had mine done ^_^

I know Audi say 5 years for the belt to be done but vw say 4 years.

I stayed safe and went with 4 years on my cupra, no idea what Audi say different....

115k in 07-08 handbooks for some reason. Changed mine at 48k/5years, tbh none of it was that bad even the idlers and tensioner but better safe than sorry.

Cambelt, waterpump and tensioners all 3 have to be changed at the same time.
