whining noise when slowing down

can anyone advise taken car to garage thought was wheel bearing not so . garage say its the gearbox .any body got idea what might be the problem .

My car makes a whine under engine braking, is that what you mean? I think that's normal...

no sounds like a noisy bearing when driving .then when slowing right down the noise is very loud

Mine made a similar whine/squeal and it was the serpentine self tensioner, I also changed the belt at the same time and it came to about £60.
This only occurred at slow speeds and was fairly easy to fit, hope it helps.
