Will 18x9s fit?

Hello, I'm new to the forum and the world of B5s but just a quick question.....

Will 18x9 ET35 front & rear fit on a B5 1.8T 2000 Avant with coilovers? I'm concerned about them needing spacers for clearance but would this then make them protrude from the arches?

Ideally, I don't want to have to do arch work but just wondered if anyone was running 18x9 ET35s all round and if so, how is this achieved?

I'm basically looking to purchase these Merc rims.

I think they will as my B5 is shod with 235/35/19s and coilovers, they JUST about clear, I couldnt fit the rims with 255s mind (they would foul) sorry I not sure of the offset but IIRC these are RS4 rims????

Ok sure. I was probably going to run 215/40/18.

So what's the width of your 19"s?

fyi i have audi rs4 alloys on mine with ap coilovers running 225/45/18 tyres (audi a4 b5 quattro) and there 18" 8.5j et35 ,
so .5j isnt much and to be fair at most your need a 5mm spacer.

So what's the width of your 19"s?

I will have to have a look as I dont know TBH, I have a wheel off at the mo for a puncture so I will have a look and get back, they do sit very close at both the front and rear, I cant squeeze my fingers between the tyre and the suspension, but it does clear JUST as I say there would be no chance of fitting 255s (I did try)

215/40 is also completely the wrong size tyre, both for the car and more importantly for the rims.

9" wide wheels should be on something like 255/35R18's

No I realised he was talking 18", I was saying that the 18s would probly fit as I have 19s on mine fitted with 235/35s but I tried to fit 255/35s and they fouled the suspension on the same rims

Howdy, I have a B5 Avant, a 2.5 TDi Quattro, and run 9J (ET52) 'new style' Genuine Audi TT alloys, at the rear 235 - 40's and at the front 225 - 40's. To get them to sit nicely I have 15mm Hubcentric Spacers & long nuts, on all four corners, otherwise due to the high offset they would fowl on the upper control arms etc. I now have a couple of mm clearance, which hasn't been a problem, no rubbing or scrubbing at all, even with the kids in and a boot full of shopping, so happy days! I'm pretty sure with a lower offset you wouldn't need such wide spacers, but I love these wheels and there quite rare on anything but a TT so just had to 'make them' fit lol...

Here's my car as it is now (desperate for a good clean, lol) but sits nicely, all be it on standard shocks & springs.

Like I said, I don't want them to protrude from the arches, hence the question in the first place. I know they will bolt on, that really wan't what I was asking.

Re tyre sizes - some like stretch, some hate, it's one of those things.

It all depends on the look you are going for really. I don't think stretched tyres and wheel poke really suits the b5 but it could be done to help fit a certain set of rims. A lot of the vw boys do it after all.

If you're running 215/40 on a 9j rim, it will cause the tyre to stretch, which I would guess cause rolling circumference of the tyre to be different from if the tyre was fitted go a 7j and no stretch caused?

How would this effect the Speedo reading?

Having your speedo out can be annoying but the small change in radius from stretching the tyres wouldn't change it drematically. If you check it against a sat nav you'll know where you stand also. You get used to it quickly also

I did this today and mine is bang on. lol

75mph on the speedo is 74 on the satnav.........ok not bang on but as good as.

Tested mine today, against sat nav, and speedo to sat nav was; 70 - 71, 80 - 81, 90 - 92, so cant grumble...

My a4 is also spot on. The Nissan I have with a different from standard wheel package under reads by 5mph. I don't mind either as with the Nissan it means I'm that little bit less likely to be caught speeding
