Insurance renewal nightmare!!

Hey all,

Having a complete nightmare with my renewal, tried 3 different companies, sky included and it just keeps getting more and more expensive.

i was paying £930 tpft last year with admiral, they've now put it up to £973, phoned them up to ask why, they ran it through again and now its £1137 (fully comp price admittedly)

I plan on modifying the car later in the year, just coilovers, s3 wheels, s3 spoiler and s3 brakes (purely because discs and pads all round need changing)
This has just confused things much more, putting the price up another £450

I'm 25, use a work van during the day and then the a3 at the weekend, have 1 years ncb (had 3, no policy for 2 years so lost it all) and had clean liscence for 7 years.

any suggestions of company's would be appreciated

Are you trying to get insurance as a modified car or standard is the first question?

For standard, use GoCompare, wait 10 minutes, then use Moneysupermarket, that is usually the best quote you can get online for standard cars. don't ask me why? but I have found it to be effective for my totally standard Toyota Rav4 for 3 years in a row.

For modified, the obvious is the site sponsors, don't forget to mention your an ASN member, limit your mileage, and declare all mods, it's usually cheaper, as they have schemes for modified cars, and stick your mum or GF on the policy to see if it makes a difference? Obviously, postcodes can sway your insurance premiums heavily, some to the point that some companies just won't quote you.

I've asked them to insure me as a modified car, acting as if the car is allready modified.

I've tried sky, as helpful as the chap was on the phone, even he couldn't believe the cost it was coming out at. Over £700 dearer than admiral. He couldn't apologise more, lol. Just wish I'd have got his name now.

I understand that post codes play a big part on it, but I have a mate who lives the next road down, has a 200bhp a3 with lots of other mods, he's paying £460 a year......and he's 22!!

For standard cars I doubt you will beat LV.com , I don't think they will insure modified cars . Got to be worth a try !

Would like to say a massive thankyou to ollie and his team. The very next morning I received a call from them saying they had double checked the system and worked out a better price, me thinking £1200.....no they'd managed to drop it dramatically!!!
I've got mine and the missus 206cc up for renewal at the same time.....safe to say, with the quotes they've given me and the sheer professionalism and understanding from the team, they've got themselves a new customer!! (Two in fact)

Just had a quote for A3 2.0 tdi sport 3dr for £265 fully comp including protected no claims
i think endsleigh and Halifax came out on top
