Tim's Max Power A3

not sure it was unless it happened at work yesterday as i live in the middle of no where, probably my bad plasti dipping ha

we have been experiencing some pretty strong winds down in Kent the past few days! I keep thinking my tracking a off but its just the 70mph side winds! Lol

just out of interest- I take it you can still see the reflective strips in the rear lights? Just that a friend of mine got pulled just the other week as they were too dark- but look about the same darkness as yours

to be honest i haven't checked :/

Fair play to tackling everything yourself mate! will be keeping an eye on this thread for sure! :icon_thumright:

Trying to sort my wrap as the company are still waiting for stock, Also Plato dip is at £20 a can on eBay so I'm waiting a week for 'plastic dip UK' to have it back in stock as its £7 a can there, also will be purchasing a downpipe and decat and fit my tip, will do a how too I think on the decay as I havnt really seen one around

bought a decat and downpipe for £87 :) had 11% off turbo revs so hopefully fit that on Wednesday and will try and make a good how too as i couldn't find one when looking for myself however it is easy enough, changed the oil yesterday in the hope it would get rid of a knocking noise on cold starts which from what i can tell it has.

unfortunatly the company that sells the wrap are sold out till the 3rd so i have a multicolored car till then and more plasti dip is peeling off so will re do that and maybe do more coats.

going to fit my over-sized tip either today (been at work since 7:00am and gym so knackered) or tomorrow

however got a question for you lot, the only thing left that i want to get or think i need is an intercooler, im going to buy an ebay one as it has all the pipes etc for map sensor and n75 and then maybe upgrade the core later but should i wait till i fit this then get it mapped? only issue with that is that i wont be able to get it till august some time.

Definitely intercooler before map

well started to swap over my tip today.

lovely weather to do so too :D

old tip removed quite easy hardest part was wriggling it free

quite a difference however as i would soon find out going so big has its draw backs.

try to fit the new tip and was a right PITA it just simply wouldn't fit as there's a metal pipe that gets in the way, so i trimmed about 8mm off the turbo end and also cable tied it so it was squished more flat (hard to explain) anyhow i managed to finally get it down there however i couldn't see jack S##T so im not 100% convinced its on probably. went for a test drive and feels a little pokier but no major difference in feel but im sure it was worth the money especially once i get it mapped. at the moment it has no clips holding it on the turbo as i ran out of time however i have tomorrow off and will be fitting my decat so will give it another crack then.

also good news, my wrap is being delivered tomorrow as well hopefully so can finish it off :D

i think you should start 1 job at a time and make sure you finish it
before you move on to the next.

its only down the road 5 min journey is it still best not to drive it?

I wouldn't it could allow un metered air into the engine as it is not clamped down also if it comes off there is nothing protecting fragile turbo blades from any debris just my opinion mate

Tim , people sign up to forums for help, info and advice....... Please bear this is mind and do NOT drive your car with an unsecure tip, world of problems could happen, many people will not help with the consequences that could follow if they see your ignorance to advice given.

cheers guys, i will always take your recommendations over my own mind so i got a lift into work.

anyway i got home and did a little bit to set up for tomorrow as i got a lot to do, removed air filter, heat shied, catch can and the tip so its a nice empty void to have another go tomorrow.

removed the 4 bolts on the downpipe easy enough, however i am having difficulty removing a bolt on the join to the cat back.

its the one on the left as its flat and the other side is rusted and rounded off, im guessing i only have one option and is to cut it off? unless anyone else has any other ideas?

I'd cut the nuts with innox disc in a grinder, then take the sleeve to local motor factors and buy a new one, the last one i bought was £12 iirc from local auto factors.

hmm well i should be able to cut the bolt free and then just replace the bolt that way dont have to go anywhere, also in peoples opinions after getting the decat on should i keep the resonated centre or replace it with a straight pipe is it really that much louder or does it just give a nice deepness to it?

Yeh cut the ******.

Clamps are cheap enough from a local exhaust place or garage. Theres ebay too.
Even if you just source a 10 or 12mm nut and bolt and use the original clamp for now

well today has been a long day but made some good progress.

took a grinder with a cutting wheel to the bolt and manged to get the cat of quite easy only difficulty was the lambda sensor's they were a PITA and took a lot of soaking, finally got them off and fitted the new DP

the restriction difference is unreal

removed the tip again and fitted a jubilee clip and got it on a bit nicer this time too so that's all good, not the best fitting up top the dv and hockey puck thing are a little cramped and not that straight to the filter but its ok.

also the rest of my wrap came today.... HOWEVER it appears to be a different shade? i got it from the same place im hoping its because the wrap that was on the car has been in the sun etc but i am going to be F#####G P####D managed to do the door and tailgate before the rain came so i now only have 1 front blue bumper and one rear yellow.

I'm sure the wrap will be fine once you've got it on the car and its also has a bit of the good old English weather :)

yeah thats what im hoping only thing is that im assuming the colour would fade due to weather but the new wrap is more faded than the old :/ we will see what happens.

Right Tim........ Here's what I think: you look to have achieved a decent level competency with the wrapping in general, looks smooth and quite well done..... The tints, you need to do again or I would if I was you, do the wheels in all black or satin black / gloss black. And colour code the handles and the strips the same colour as the primary colour.

I would re order some wrap and do the whole car out of a wrap with the same batch numbers so order enough, i used to do a lot of shotblasting and spray painting and you would be surprised at the difference in the "same colour" paints but of different production batch numbers, ever so slightly different shades.

top man though for giving it a go, made an interesting read at times and your making progress !

I really hope it will weather as I really don't want to have to redo it all, the wheels and trim will be all black once I get chace just waiting for plasti dip to come back in stock

Hi Tim, doing a good job so far, I agree with what Sean said about the wrap, I'm a decorator and its a little like say wallpapering, it need to be the same batch code to be the same shade, it's possible it's not, and so it's come from off a different run when printing the wrap I would say.

top marks for giving it a go yourself, not something I would try myself ali don't have the patience. Look forward to keeping upto date with this thread

just to show you, I recently had some wrapping done on mine...... This took 4.5 hours approx with some bumper removal ect by professionals:

it is time consuming to do it right, but get it right and its worth it mate.

Hmmmm when you said a different shade I thought the older stuff would be more faded and not the other way round....

Wrapping does look good though Tim considering your not a professional...personally I'd match the door handles to the body, along with the petrol flap- but it's your car at the end of the day :)

^^show off!

Ive said it before in other threads, bit the difference in downpipes on the ko3 cars is insane. That and the tip and the car will breathe nicely.

I wouldnt settle with that wrap dude, photo of it and send them to your supplier, and pray they can come up with a solution.

Otherwise good work and keep on trucking, your perseverance is admirable

Cheers guys, yeah I've emailed them hopefully I will get something, what I'm thinking is to take the sides and bonnet off and re do them with the new stuff, need to start saving money tho and going to get the tint done by someone as I failed epically

Try the tint again but use loads of soapy water in a squeeze bottle, or fairy liquid in a squeezy bottle just takes longer to dry out but makes it easier to smooth bubbles and creases out.

yeah i did the first time, still have some left so going to redo the rear (as thats the worst) worth a try, goiung to do my bumpers now and hopefully have aenough wrap left to re do the rest and then finally can relax.

quickquestion fitted my tip but its so big its pushed up against the engine will it take the heat?

Tips usually need trimming to suit individual applications, all depends on the persons filter setup.

yeah it needed a bit of a trim at the turbo end but i runs up against the back of the engine where as the old one and from the photos ive seen of forge's one etc there is a gap between it and the engine block?

finished the front bumper, im quite happy as from what ive read up the bumpers are the hardest part and all in all it went quite well id say. i know have a orange car (many different shades tho)

after doing pretty much all of it, i over heated it ever so slightly and it ripped i was so annoyed, so i tried my best but no amount of re heating and moving would solve it so ended up having to patch it.

also sprayed the front 2 wheels black, didn't have time to do the back ones, will do them Sunday

photo of the tip installed too

almost done, just got to reapply the wrap where its dark and change it to the lighter shade, back bumper, ebay intercooler and then r-tech :)

Tbh mate the car is now beginning to come together fair play
