Friday - Collection Date! 3 more sleeps (Homage to Gweneira)

Thoroughly enjoyed that write up. Felt as though I lived through your experience I can imagine amalfi looking amazing in the wet just at dusk. Must confess that's what concerns me about daytona..grey on a grey day ! I won't have the same trouble on my collection.. Dealer is only 5 miles away ! Will need to re-route on the return journey ! Very pleased you are in love. What a great bank holiday. We all await the pics....

It will pass quickly lol, looks like around 100 days or so, now doesnt that sound better than months? Gives you time to find the ideal location for the pics. :) x

Enjoyed reading about your collection day, pleased you are enjoying it. Can't wait for mine now.

Good morning All,

Thank you for all your kind comments about my write up. I put that up quite late friday evening (about midnight). Just wanted to share with you and hopefully for those still waiting you will get the same emotions (minus the heavy downpour which lasted all day).

The drive back from Berks was only stressful because the driving conditions were so poor. My paranoia was up there mainly because I had the Audi 7 day free cover and the excess is rather hefty. I stayed in the outer lane for most of the journey home. Nothing worse than being carved up by drivers weaving in and out and with all the surface spray visibility was alot better in the fast lane.

Yesterday I took the wife to Cambridge from Essex. The weather was very much the opposite to collection day. Blue sky and sunny all day. With hindsight I should have collected the car yesterday. That kid in me did not want to wait any longer than the 3 months that had already passed by. Great looks from the people going past on the motorway and those walking around Cambridge as I went passing by.

I've racked up circa 300 miles and the car drives very well. For me there is plenty of torque from the 2tdi engine and the sport suspension on the 18' wheels are a comfortable ride given the state of the M11, A12 and other A roads I use in my region of the country. My wife was very happy with the ride and she picked up on the same that any road imperfection was not projected onto us in the car. I would have gone with the s-line suspension but at the time for me it was not showing as an option. Sport suspension is not too harsh IMO and for those unsure, I'm happy to come over to you provided it is not raining ;-)

The Alcantara /leather split seats are very comfortable for me given I have an old injury to my hip which can play up at times and I found the seats were not pressing my thighs inwards and placing further stress on the right hip. Electric lumbar support does it job nicely. Previously where I have driven and found myself feeling very stiff and aching, I am not now.

Today I will be cleaning the car as the front grill, bumper and wing mirrors along with the windscreen has built up a great collection of flies/bugs. Photos will follow today.

Thanks for another good write up. Sounds like you had a " grand day out " good the weather was better and you enjoyed the drive and the wife was happy also. Im sure the car will look amazing, will see the pics when there up. :) x

SJW, great 2 write ups. Sounds are though you are enjoying ownership (mine not due till sept 1 ish gggggrrrrr). Was thinking of your awful journey Friday, but a least yesterday was better for you. Mabe daveotto, snake and myself (and any other 1sept delivery) should start a joint sleeps thread!

I was hoping for 1st Sept but given my current build week it'll be a few weeks later :/ I can only hope they bring it forward like they have with some others!

Hey Viperfire - there have been references a couple of times in this thread about a checklist for pickup. Wondering if I can get a copy as I have ordered mine last week and expecting in September.

Thanks,

Hey SJW, pretty sure I saw the Amalfi beast hiding all by itself at the back of the car park! Looks fantastic!

Good Morning SAMan and All, guilty as charged your Honour. It was me parked right over the back. I even took a photo of where I was parked with no cars around me. lol. Wanted to test the theory that I am a magnate to idiots that can park anywhere they like and will go right up close next to me. I was proved wrong yesterday. haha. I suppose it is still a holiday for some and the roads do seem fairly empty still along with the station carpark. I could have parked alot closer to the train station but thought nah lets protect those doors and bumpers.

I've got a few photos to post but need to set up an account to link them in. Perhaps I can badger Sandra for assistance. I thought I could attach them within a post straight from my iphone. Perhaps I am missing something?

Already racked up nearly 500 miles. I am loving the car. Hard to fault it. Very impressed with the 2TDI. For me the power is fine. It has great torque and turn of speed through gears 2-4. Fuel economy in contrast to the hire car and my previous petrol, such a massive change. I am only using Auto mode. Having listened to some other comments it would appear the efficiency mode compromises itself. I have not tested to see how I fair when driving in that mode.

Touch wood, I have not heard any strange sounds or rattling with the turbo linkage being experienced by some. The door mirrors are working well and no creaks or issues with them. I do not have the electrically folding door mirrors. I slipped up there with the order. I overlooked this. My wife seemed to struggle for some reason to close the passenger door but it was just a simple human error rather than the door not being aligned.

Some of the other threads and those posting are reporting similar issues and I really thought I may be in a similar boat. It is still early days so I will keep posting if anything out of the ordinary arises.

Keeping my fingers crossed for those still waiting that your builds and collection dates come forward. :)

Apologies for some of the photos not being up to scratch. Will dig out a better camera rather than using the iphone. Some that have been uploaded are small. Not sure what happened there. Will get some better ones up though.

and its about time! lol

Very nice indeed....the p glass looks very dark against the bodywork...very effective...the other glass also looks quite tinted...is it?...I noticed it also on a showroom model some months back and wondered if it was standard?

The white lines show the difference between white and amalfi too!

I'd have been very happy with Amalfi

I'll just go and get my magnifying glass to get a better view!

Not sure why the photos were cropped so small. I'm sure someone on here will know.

Really strange how the amalfi can appear quite white in direct sunlight and then in different light settings it has a slight greenish tinge to it IMO. Probably need my eyes checked. Will get different photos up that show of the colour variation.

Yes the privacy glass does seem to break up the bodywork colour nicely and the front windows do have a tint to them. I think it is standard.

Your colour choice is great. You will not be disappointed when looking at the photos others have posted of their cars in daytona.

Nice looking car, I see the rain finally went away. It seems the Amalfi does appear whiter than in real life but still looks great. Mmmmmmm every time I see a new pic makes me waver about my ordered colour....

SuffolkAudiMan - I think that is probably what you saw the other day in the train station car park.

I can assure you the car park was not empty. I just parked miles away from the station building. Judging from the photo, they certainly need to re-tarmac the road surface and bays.

That is exactly what I saw...I was on the 5:18 so arrived in Colchester at 6:15, was safe and sound with nothing near it. I walk along the path behind that hedge row to get to my free parking space!!! Must admit, I haven't specced the privacy glass, perhaps it would be too much on Daytona but looks excellent on yours.

'perhaps it would be too much on Daytona but looks excellent on yours.'...whaaaaat!!!!! lol

Sorry, I should have said for my taste...like you said earlier Moonlight, car is quite dark already and with black windows, it only gets darker. It is personal taste but as I said, I must admit, I like it on the Amalfi Car, nice contrast.

I'm not 100% convinced either on Daytona...I like it...not sure if I love it ...YET (not long left).....but it's out of needs must for me.....it saves my 24 week old's oh so delicate eyes you see!

@ Moonlight & SuffolkAudiMan,

Vertigo has a thread with lots of photos of his A3 in Daytona but I do not think it has the privacy glass. I am sure someone has posted an A3 S-line in Daytona with privacy glass. I think it is in sticky thread for photos only. Viperfire has the A3 Sportback S-Line in Daytona with no privacy glass. His photos are top notch, really do show of a lighter side of daytona. I think it does work with daytona but will boil down to personal requirements.

Either way I am going to like both of your cars with or without as you have both got the daytona that I was not allowed to have.
