So.... As promised ;-) my adaptions to the new a3.

I know the wheels need doing and are booked in to be done! I wasn't going to post pictures until wheels complete but I love it and think it looks fantastic.

Let me know your thoughts on possibly the first black edition new a3 in uk!

lol my very unique Sheffield Audi tax disc holder!! I'll sort it mate.....

Just think of Audi rotor black edition wheels , similar but not exactly same... I will post pics when done next week (ish)

Same as I have planned for mine (although in glacier white)! Got the vinyl just waiting for the rain to stop! Also thinking either get the 8V S Line wheels re done in anthracite or swap for some 8P Black edition rotors.

Looking good Sean, chrome has its place but on a black car I don't love it.

Not for me (I quite like the Chrome), but they seem to have done a good job on it!

I hope your quite skilled mate, bumper off job and grille out every clip was saved not broken, about 4 .5 hours labour and the best 3m vinyl..... Done by the best people in the country! Rotors are old style wheels, just wait to see mine for the plans to unfold....

Thanks mate, i like chrome on Maserati , certain BMW ect ect but just looked out of place on the new a3 I felt (IMO)

;-) Everyones entitled to their opinion mate and I welcome them , I love it and yeh the job is 2nd to none...... Paul's currently got 3 month waiting list approx he's booked up on detailing and wrapping customers travel from as far as Europe great job done!

Just to add guys, the work involved here is more than people think, I was there for the last hour and half of it being done and they clean the surfaces with special sprays and rags and so many different tools and precision work in a purpose built workshop with ramps and day-lights done by Professionals. There was over £150,000 of other cars on premises currently being worked on by them. The job is spot on, I've seen other people spray/ wrap/ delete ect but the attention to detail taken here is difficult to explain I only know because I seen it in action.

Looking good. But are you sure you don't actually have 2 different audis? Or are you James bond in disguise with revolving number plates? Lol

Whilst I'm sure their work is to a far higher standard, I'm happy with my outlay of 7 quid from eBay for the vinyl and a scalpel from a diy store! Have previously done my old A5 window trims and grill which held up for over a year with no peeling or degradation.

I guess you know that your number plate, as shown in the photo, is misspaced and illegal?

You could be fined and the plates confiscated!

Yeh cheers dad,

actually I'd get a producer upto 3 times at the officers discretion, where I'd have to take it to an mot station and get it signed off at the cost of a £1! Then after 3 recorded separate incidents I could be fined and have plates confiscated with. 7 day order to repair and not allowed to drive whilst without legal plates with the consequences of a further £1000 fine and 3 points if not complying.

however in the 6 years and 23 cars I've had them on I've never been stopped!

cheers, Sean

I've done lots of work on my own vehicles mate and I'm all for a bit of DIY! I'm sure if you take your time it will look good.....
The main reason I chose to have it done professionally was because I know the guys that did it have done loads of a5/a3 ect black edition conversions and have the correct colour black for the job and I wanted my privacy glass that slight bit darker than Audi factory privacy glass..... Very slightly darker.

post pics when you done, or a how to guide for others to help them?

Sean

Yeah will get some pics up and a short write up. Vinyl wrapping trims and debadging are the extent of my DIY though! Certainly wouldn't attempt window tinting myself or anything electrical / mechanical.

Looks great and you can tell its a professional job.

Font forget to tell your insurance company of the mods though mate.

I'm guessing those tints are illegal from B pillar forward, so it's probably a non-starter as they'd refuse cover.

It's a valid point though on other (legal) mods!

23 cars in 6 years!!!
some were 3 at a time baby!

he didn't say that he owned the cars!!
owned, no I wish, owned most some were on tick or lease.

Already have mate, and thanks!
That's a lot in DVLA "cherished plate" assignment fees at £80 a go!
some were 3 cars at same time so only had plate on 1 at a time but my other company plate is similar.......

No tints on the front! Just back 3 windows, maybe black on black on black makes it look like that....
A new one every three months.... I could do that. If only I could afford it!
As above mate, I think the most I had was when I had a civic vti coupe, e90 BMW 320d and my audi 1.8 turbo Quattro sport all at same time....... I don't really drink and I don't smoke so I like my cars and that's where most my pennies go :)
Me too!

And it was addressed to me! LOL

yes it was..... as a joke obviously, my real dad who is 52 and old had a better response than you! ;-)

Does this not ruin your warranty? maybe a stupid question but am liking what you did so i might do it also :D

i have of other people that warranty can get voided from stupid little things, so am guessing it don't

after seeing this i'm definitely getting this done to mine, looks incredible.

I can't seem to find any of the audi black edition rotor alloys which will fit the new A3 though

Not a fan of removing the chrome but be interesting to see the wheels

I too don't drink 'much' or smoke and prefer to spend money on objects i like.

Unless they can show that the changes you made affected the problem you are trying to fix under warranty, there's nothing they can do really.

I don't think it is the first BE 8V in the UK pal, a few months ago I put up a post about the BE not being on the configurator because I followed a Red 8V with black wheels, black grilles etc on my way into London in March.

Why would it ruin your warranty?

I don't think it does , I hope not and I can't see why it would, but we all know manufacturers do nearly anything they can to avoid paying for warranty work.

im glad you like it mate, you can get rotors to fit the 8v I rang a local wheel specialist who had a choice of rotor replicas in stock he said would fit 17" 18" or 19"........

Yes, I have seen a white mk3 sportback with black grille and the chrome around the windows removed and replaced with black trim.

Glad I hesitated on getting the s3 sportback as when the order book opened the black styling pack wasn't on the options list, now it is :arco:

i had this done on the 26/5/13 , and I haven't seen any other 8v black edition styled cars yet on the road and still love the way it looks.

Hi,

I just ordered a new a3 saloon s line. The black optics option wasn't available when I ordered and I would have loved it. Could you give me a bit of advice on your DIY job you described?
Cheers
Stephen

Looks good s33nyboy! Very professional looking job.
2 questions mate: how much and did you consider gloss black for the grill to match the gloss look of the s-line grill?
