The wife took Lightning into Bath audi for the Brakes this morning as she works near there.

During the day I had a call from the Service adviser to inform me Bath now operate an "Audi Cam" where they film you car.( More later).

So while i'm on with him we get chatting and he's asking me how i like the car etc and then he lets me know that he had one in yesterday (RS3) and they had done an ABT tune up on this.

"Whats an ABT tune up i ask", "a 420bhp upgrade" he answers. So some lucky B*stard round these parts is driving round with 420 horses under his foot!!!!!

Do you know who this is?

I had to ask what the cost of this is and he told me £4700...........................wow, that's a lot of money, but its an official upgrade done by Audi and warranted for 2 years.

Oh and for a whole lot more money (£9K) there is a 470bhp option!

For anyone thats interested see here:-
ABT Sportsline car configurator

Thats a hell of a lot of money, but i'd kill to get a go in one!!

Back to the Audicam, this is a real cool idea, you log in to see a short clip taken by the tech, showing the car up on the ramp with one new disc/pad set up and the old one still to do. The idea is you can see any work been done and if anything extra was identified they can show you via the video before you agree to the extra cost.

I wondered who's that was also.

Just got mine back this morn from Bath, good service.

i like the sound of the package inc warranty plus the Master Tech there is good, very knowledgeable.

I have to say I'm quite tempted by this, it's pricey but the 'official' work by the Audi dealer (and Mon Motors group being where I bought from) and warranty make it appealing. The outlay is about double the other remap brands (if they can actually remap the RS3) for a map and FMIC upgrade but that would look cheap if you were to get a problem later.

£4025 for the 420bhp upgrade according to their UK website:
Engine Upgrades

It's a lot of cash for sure but when you consider the prop shaft and cylinder failures reported by others on here it might be cheap in the long run if you still have the warranty. Even the 'full' stage II cars are reportedly making 420ish bhp.

How does the full £9k package for 470bhp compare with the cost of the loba system and all the parts and tuning you need?

I'd have thought being an official Audi dealer product you might see something back come trade in time - as you did with Scooby PPP and Evo FQ mods. I may be wrong though.

ABT UK have called me back today, they have been open and honest in answering questions which is a much better start, so I have an update but no price yet. The question I asked and the answers I was given are in standard text, my comments are in italics.

- Does the 2 year Warranty apply in the UK? The 2 year TUV warranty stands in the UK as it does in Germany. However, this is a third party warranty with a maximum liability of around £6000. That warranty would come in to effect if Audi were to refuse a claim because of the remap/intercooler additions. So to be clear this is not the same as the Audi manufacturer warranty but it's more than offered by any others I've seen.

- How many ABT warranty claims have been made on TTRS/RS3 modifications? None. I take this as a good sign that the maps are safe and that the dealers are honouring the manufacturer warranty with these additions.

- Can this kit be fitted by Bath Audi? Yes, they have fitted this kit to 'a number of TTRS & RS3', they have all the equipment required to add the map, install updates and return the car to standard if required for any reason. So it seems there are a few cars out there running the ABT set up but I can't find a single write up or comment on the web.

- Price? Is given by VIN number for each car, some need different additions (eg spark plugs). No the RS3 upgrade is not included in the current up to 30% discount advertised on the ABT UK site as it includes hardware as well as software (fair enough but you have to ask don't you!) I have supplied my VIN number and they have sent this to ABT in Germany and will call me with a price.

So there we have the story so far, I will wait and see what the price is and then make a decision. Thoughts gang?

Its funny Mark, when i heard this from Bath, i thought i would post it for others and i have to admit my thoughts were that you above all others would probably be the most interested.

If you have the cash, go for it, it may keep you in the RS3 club for a little longer ;)

I'd love to do it, i just could warrant the extra cost.

:) Yes I'm interested, especially as it's the same dealer group, they've looked after me well so far and I'd have more confidence with them after the recent 'yes we can, no we can't' with other mappers.

I'm waiting on the price before I decide. I've driven a few other cars recently and the RS3 is still the best all rounder.

Oh and if I do it, you're welcome to drive mine sometime!

So if your engine goes bang, they will only contribute a maximum of £6k towards the new lump and labour?!?!?

can you pm me the prices over... I might take a drive to Audi Bath :whistle2:

Hi Nick,

no need for me to PM, the price is confirmed as £4750 fitted. The process takes several days as the RS3 ECU has to be posted to ABT in Germany, once returned they refit the ECU and the intercooler. This is certainly a generic map rather than a custom one.

They fitted an RS3 map and intercooler last week. They have installed the ABT software on everything from A1's to R8 V10's with no reported problems to date. As previously confirmed if Audi were to reject a warranty claim on the basis of the map/parts then the ABT warranty would apply.

If you call Bath Audi on their main number, Daniel is the map who can help.

Cheers,

Mark

Yes, the maximum liability of the ABT warranty is £6k. It's good to get the actual facts for once isn't it.
