Hi guys,

I need two new tyres for my 2.0 TDI A3. Haven't had to change the tyres since I've owned the car so not sure if there is a recommended brand? Looking to spend no more than maybe £120 per tyre.

Thanks

Morning, Wheel etc size may help us :)

sorry...Monday morning you know what its like 225/40/R18

I run Vredestein Sessanta's & they're very good, got mine fitted for £100 a corner, they do have a new one called Vorti which has also good ratings.

I have Vredestein winter tyres actually, and have had on previous cars so I was considering them.

Michelin Pilot Sport 3 should be in your budget if you get online and delivered, very good tyre I run the same size on mine.

Michelin Primacy 3 ?? I've been reading they are good and in fact thinking of going for them on my own car too.

Do you get noise on high speed from Vredestein?

What I don't get about tyres is if you look at Blackcircles for example, they have three versions of the Michelin PS3, the only difference being that it's badged "Mercedes compatible" and yet they list it with different grip and efficiency ratings, which makes not sense as it's the same tyre with a Merc badge on the side :)

Best tyres i have ever owned in wet and dry are good year eagle f1 asymmetric 2's which were £105 each from camskill here
Goodyear Tyres / Car / Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 - 225/40 R18 92Y XL (R1) FP TL Fuel Eff.: E Wet Grip: A NoiseClass: 2 Noise: 70dB &pound104.95 Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres - 18" R18" - 225/40/18, 225/40R18

With the fuel offer on, if you buy 4 you get £40 worth of gift vouchers for tescos for fuel ect. Well that's what I got anyways and makes the tyres £100 a corner which is a bargain

dont just take my word for it check some reviews out here

hope this helps

I've been reading about this tyre as well but EU Rating for Fuel is quite bad which is off-putting for me

Must admit I'm a bit confused as well what to go for next, Dunlop sports on just now and they are grippy in dry and wet. But then I don't drive like a lunatic :)

Personally I'd be swayed rather by dry, wet grip and how long the tread and tyres will stay intact for. The fuel efficiency wouldn't come into it unless all I was doing was motorway miles and saving a fortune every year :)

The difference between an A and G rated tyre for economy is about 5% - maybe not a lot on 40mpg average, but over 20k miles (ca life of a set of tyres if rotated fr to back as they wear) then thats £180 saving in fuel.

You will find very few tyres int hat size with good economy ratings, the bulk of sport oriented tyres are E-G rated. The Goodyear Efficient Grip and Pirelli P7 blue are a couple of exceptions, there may be others. I ran Pirelli P7 cinturato (but not blue version) on my Mk6 Golf and found them very good tyres, not the sportiest out there but they handled some hard cornering in my hands without complaint although a lot of my driving is dual carriageway.

You also have to be careful when comparing tyres - the ContiSport Contact 5 has very different eceonomy ratings whether its MO (Mercedes), AO (Audi) or generic variants - MO is rated C for economy, AO E and the generic F rated !. Ditto Dunlop Sport Maxx RT - one varant is C rated, the other E rated !

I do 40 miles a day so fuel economy is a massive importance to me...although saying that I went from my Seat Ibiza FR 1.4 DSG TSI doing 300 miles to a tank to the dirty diesel Audi doing 500 so its not all bad. Those tyres I linked seem to have a good wet grip rating too...

The Blue version is B rated economy, A rated wet grip, 72dB noise.

Also be careful if you buy tyres mail order - I really struggled to find a local tyre garage that would fit them for me - most places wouldn't do it because they didn't get the sale of the tyres, others said they couldn't fit me in for weeks.

a few other places to try..

40 miles per day = ca 15k miles/year. even a 2% fuel saving by buying an efficient one over an average one will save you £50 a year on diesel at 50mpg average.

U haven't said if u drive like a maniac on ur 40 mile trip which would cancel out ur extra fuel economy from the tyres? Lol

U would have thought they would be keen of the business of fitting them but I know what u mean some garages can be funny when they don't suppy ... :)

I drive like the sensible female that I am...unless I get stuck behind some slow moron doing 30 in a 60 or if i'm late... :) through tyremen.co.uk I can get them sent to a local garage and fit there..simples! My brother used to work for a local garage and we still do get good prices however last time I got new tyres they snapped my wheel nuts, and I was made to feel incredibly uncomfortable by the amount of male eyes on me so I'm NOT going back -.-

Better make sure ur new tyres have nice rim protection. My other half has had an argument with a kerb when I was at work, luckily enough the rim protector on the tyre took most of the brunt. She was sensible enough to deny it of course lol :)

Haha :) Agreed but I think she would rather give in than walking to work ... ;)

That's a bit dodgy, blackmailed/kinda sex for services, urm may have to try that one, oh no wont work she's a stubborn Italian lmao

Blackmailed is hard word, I'd rather say a nice choice with one winner lol :)
And here was me thinking Italian women was stubborn was a myth :)

I know lots of Italian myths (cough cough, truths)

Mate, don't know if you have kids, but once you do, personal gains don't exist for a long time after lmao,

I find it hard to believe Conti are actually manufacturing a completely different tyre that is otherwise the same size for Audi/Merc etc.. I can't really understand why those ratings would be different just due to them being the recommended tyre for a given car...
