While stuck at home bored my mind started to wander to thoughts of my auto gearbox and fear that it won't last the year.
It might last but I'm a paranoid soul.
And before aragorn or anyone else starts, I will not convert to manual, so don't go down that route. Thanks

I was thinking that when my gearbox does eventually go I'd like the 5 speed trip tronic version.
My understanding is that these was fitted to 2.5 TDIs and a high chance they was quattros?
Did they fix this box to 1.9TDI quattros as well?

Is it possible to convert a quattro auto box to FWD?
Would a box from a different 1.9TDI or a V6 fit my AFN TDI?
I guess the bell housings would be different, so could they be swapped over?

Most audi engines use a common bellhousing. The ratios are usually specific to the engine though.

Converting a quattro box is pointless and probably not even possible, stick to FWD boxes.

I think the later cars got the tiptronic box so why not just get a later 1.9tdi facelift box?

For now it's about options. When I need a box or will be about availability at the time.

If a FL trip 1.9TDI box appears, bonus. If not then it's when I can get at the time.
Say, a Quattro version of the above.

I don't know what a Quattro box looks like or what is different between the two. I'm curious if it's possible.

the whole rear housing is different, conversion might be possible, but you'd need a FWD rear housing, and those generally come attached to a FWD gearbox ;)

Like the one on my car?
That's assuming they are interchangeable............I'll stick with FWD boxes if other auto boxes will fit my engine

I doubt they'll be compatible, given its a totally different gearbox, but i cant be sure.

I'd stick with a 1.9tdi box, other boxes will mechanically fit the car, but the gearing wont be correct.

I know of a b5 passat 1,9Tdi PD115 Bhp which is broken for spare, everything is available...tiptronic, FWD gearbox, oil/strainer changed last year, very good running order...

Thanks for info Adam but I'm in a position to buy one yet.
I'm going to wait till my box dies. Information gather at the moment.
