I'm trying to find the best spec/value for money A4 TDI and don't mind if it's a saloon or Avant, however I'll be doing big motorway miles so if one is better than the other I'd like to know as it will influence my decision.

Someone told me the Avants return rubbish MPG do to extra drag but I'm not sure if that's just pub talk..

Help :)

My avant 170bhp averages 40mpg see if anyones got a saloon to give u there average mpg as figured out

My 140bhp Avant returns an average of about 39-40 going on my calculations. If i'm honest, its not as good as i'd expected when I bought the car. Hopefully it'll improve a bit when it gets remapped, but these days, 40mpg out of a diesel really isnt that impressive.

I would have thought the difference between the saloon and avant would be fairly minimal in honesty.

I get 40mpg out of my 1.8t on my daily commute, would have thought the diesels would have been way better than that...

Wuld say that my figures were based on the course of a whole tank and using a fair variety of different driving. No DIS involved in mine.

70 litre tank when full, and that generally gets me about 600-650 miles.

70 litres = 15 gallons.

600 miles = 40mpg
650 miles = 43mpg

Figured mine from fill ups worked out as 40mpg thats not much motorway miles

The drag co efficient of both are similar, there would be no obvious difference in fuel consumption. There are too many variables with mpg's from forum members, in fact it would be th least accurate way of deciding it next to what colour the car is ;)

If your even asking this question i would say your better off with a Hybrid

Lucky for you guys. The most I ever got from a tank is 450 miles with half and half motorway and short local runs. I own a 2.0 tdi saloon Quattro. My brothers fwd saloon returns 460-500 around town! That's with a remap and a egr delete

The 4WD system will be taking you MPG down....also if its an Auto that wont help

Quattro is where it's at! Got me up the Cairngorms well over the ski season!

correct but I was not expecting such poor mpg. I sometimes wish I brought a 3.0 Quattro. as the mpg on that is way better

From a full tank 70 liters I get about 400 tops from half motorway and half town driving. I just has a egr and dpf removal as the dpf light come on Friday and I am yet to test it. I heard its a lot better on fuel after the removal. Thanks to rick and spencer. Currently done 300 miles on the motorway on half a tank

But you wont be accually using all the 70 litres avail in the tank? Unless i am mistaken..........................

Well yeah, granted thats not running it right down to empty.... thats not one I'm willing to experiment with haha!

350-450 depending on the mix of motorway and town. i am on a Avant 170tdi, quattro, manual, dpf/egr delete.

Oh and im sure my fuel tank is only 63 liters :)

i would say economy has been improved marginally with egr delete

cheers
