Hi all. I currently own a 2009 BMW 118D M Sport. I've had it since new and decided to get another but don't like the new model. I've had a look around and love the new A3 S Line SB. Am looking to order in the next few weeks and am now looking at options. It will be the Audi A3 1.6 TDI Sportback S Line manual. It will be black (I chose the car, the Mrs chooses the colour). That aside no decisions on options. Any tips or advice would be great, thanks

It's very much personal taste-everyone will recommend whatever they've gone for, and it'll cost a lot if you listen to everyone!!If you've got any questions about particular options then ask specifically and you'll get lots of useful info. For what it's worth, to start off your spending, I personally think the comfort pack is worth having and good value.

Looking through the options on configurator, I can't decide between the two 'black' options. The only option I will definitely get is technology package as its broadly similar to my BMW's professional media package. The only issue is, there is no price next to it at the moment, does that mean its free?

It's £1495 normally, £1795 with Audi Connect (this is the one that has no price on the configurator due to a bug on there)

You have to wonder what testing goes on with the configurator changes - seen so many errors on there before that takes months to fix!

I've just gone for the cheaper SD Nav option on mine. What features of the technology pack are you after? Stating the obvious, but the cheaper black (brilliant black from memory) is just a standard solid black. A friend has got an a A1 that colour and loves it. The other is metallic/pearlescent. I guess you really need to see that one somewhere to decide which you prefer.

Looked at the comfort package, great call, looks like the parking system plus looks the best option of the three, how effective is this?

Interior light pack is a must. Have it on my current A3, and one of the first boxes I ticked on my new order.

Thanks Cemerson. I currently have Internet access, a hard drive to store songs etc on a large screen so I guess I was looking for something broadly similar.

I guess colour wise, the difference only becomes obvious when they're next to each other

The internet access comes with the Connect pack, the large screen and HDD with the standard tech pack

I've just seen a picture of an interior with the light package in tge dark. Looks amazing and I'll certainly be getting that!!

What's the connect pack? Didn't see that one on there

I think it's MMI navigation plus, can't find that in the brochure or configurator though

That's probably true, but brilliant black is just a completely standard solid (non-metallic) black, so easy to imagine without seeing it. If you manage to see the other one, you can probably picture brilliant black in your head.

I'll have a look then, see if I can find one in the pearlescent black, ta

connect is a new option just out. It's not in the printed brochure, but it is in the online version. It's technology pack with connect or something-it's just after technology pack in the online brochure. It is what adds the Internet connectivity-the standard technology pack doesn't do that.

The hard disk for music I think is less useful, as even the standard car without Nav lets you put all your music on an SD card and play it from there. The bigger screen and better Nav graphics are worth something (but I'm too stingy to have put it on mine!). Being able to "write" on the controller to program to Nav is very cool (tried this on an A6 and it worked well). That's actually the bit of the technology pack I'd most like to have.

Hi,
Whatever you decide upon do not forget to order cheapest option, Audi hill hold assist---works magic !

Enjoy selecting your options, thrilled to bits with my new toy

Cheers guys this is really useful. Regarding the hill hold assist, what makes this different from the normal electric handbrake?

Holds brakes on indefinately. Forget handbrake, switch on the hill hold, holds car when footbrake is applied then just operate clutch and drive away.

I might be wrong about this as I haven't got my car yet, so hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong but:The standard electric handbrake takes itself off automatically as you pull away. I think the standard car also hold the footbrake on for a couple of seconds after you release it until you pull away, so you don't always have to put the handbrake on (not 100% sure I'm right on that). The hill hold assist thing automatically puts the handbrake on when you stop and off when you go, so you basically never have to touch the switch. I haven't gone for that option on mine, but others say it's good.

As I understand it, when you bring the car to a complete stop with a bit of pressure on the brakes, the brakes are then held on for you, and you can take your foot off the pedal. They then release as you set off again. I assume the brake lights stay on throughout even though you don't have your food on the pedal though not sure on that one.

Also, I think when you turn the ignition off while the hill hold is active, the standard parking brake gets automatically applied. Some people on here have said that they haven't touched the handbrake in weeks just because of the hill hold.

Yes that is correct, but not checked what you say about the stop lights, will check tomorrow

Does it do that without the hill hold assist though? I think I read something here saying that it held the footbrake on for a couple of seconds anyway. The hill hold assist puts the handbrake on automatically even when you park as well as hill starts.

Yeh, I think there is one in there that will hold it as you pull away, but only for a couple of seconds.

Thats correct. They do stay on with hill hold.
