Audi A3 1.8T 1998 AGU Build !!!

Hey, been following this thread for awhile now, you've done a brilliant job! I have the same car as you, however mine is standard. Looking at doing a few bits and bobs to it.
Firstly though, a cheeky question; cam belt and water pump change, is it relatively easy to DIY it? I have all the parts etc. and need to replace the water pump anyway as it's knackered. This will be the first time i've messed about with an Audi, how ever I have had my Impreza stripped plenty of times. Is there anything inparticular I should look out for?

P.s, keep up the good work, and this is a great thread for A3 1.8t owners. Direct links to steal parts ;)

Time for a little update i managed to hunt down some brand new Bosch 440cc Green Top Injectors at last after about 6 months of trying to get some. Managed to get some from Ebay from some one in America for £100 plus £25 custom charges so not that bad for some genuine Bosch injectors (No Cheap China Copy) which i was trying to avoid lol.

that's an absolute result for those mate!

Now are you finally going to have it mapped

Yes prawn should be very soon mate almost there lol. Just got couple of little things left to do like get the drive shaft on the drivers side changed would of been done this weekend but got sent the wrong drive shaft so got to wait till next week to get that done. And want to change the knock sensor 2 as it was bringing up a fault code saying signal too low as soon as there sorted will be getting booked in at R Tech :)

Drivers side drive shaft has now been replaced will upload some pics soon and i am now booked in at R tech for the 2nd of March for the custom re map hope it makes some decent power :undwech:

Car is at R Tech having a custom map seems like they hit a little problem with the heat shield rubbing on coil pack 4 wires and shorting out not good :wtf:

Seen this on fb, has nick got it for a week or something for custom mapping?

Yes Dani_B19 nick has got it for a week for the custom map its gonna be a bit longer than a week now as they have to wait for a new coil pack to be ordered in hopefully will see some decent power next week

Unless there is another AGU with a ko4 and relentless kit on it, I believe you have some early news for us Chester

And something to order as well!

Update from R tech :

The V2 Relentless manifold proving its worth yet again. AGU ko4-024 16psi at 7000rpm 288bhp with fuel pump tailing off. 20psi 305bhp 27.5deg timing advance... Effortless power again!!!!

MAF scaled to read 225Gs for peak power 7000rpm = 27.5deg 11.9:1 AFR with 16psi

Right think its about time for a little update as i havent updated for about 2 months. Car left R Tech power at the end of march with 290 bhp after having two new coil packs and a brand new uprated Cupra R fuel pump. But one of my bolts had worked its way loose and come out and was blowing from the manifold so 290 bhp was a good result considering it was blowing. Nick told me to take the car home sort the manifold (as it would cost loads for them to just put 1 bolt in because its so hard to get to) and bring it back and he would give the map a little tweak and hopefully squeeze a little more power out of it 300 bhp + so was happy to do that.

So i arrived back in Trowbridge from R Tech was very happy with the 290 bhp on the way home was very quick indeed. Next went and pick a friend up from his popped to the petrol station and filled up half a tank of super then ended up sliding out sideways down a hill through a hedge and fence into a farmers field. :sos:

So yeah was not happy after just having it finally mapped then putting it in in a field and causing all this damage which was :

Front Bumper smashed to bits.

Front Panel cracked in about three places.

Both Fans bent and cracked Fan Housing.

Radiator split and indented by fans.

Intercooler Bent and fins all mashed up with bent Pipework on one side.

One of the Tyres was popped , bent Bumper Bar , both Angel Eye Headlights were smashed , Side Skirt ripped off on one side , Bonnet was bent and both wings were bent.

Next was to get the beast all fixed up and back on the road and make a few changes to the handling side of things considering all it had on it was 35mm lowering springs on standard old shocks with standard brakes (Dimpled & Grooved Discs Though) standard roll bar on the front with budget tyres not really a good idea with 290 bhp under the bonnet. So i thought a set of Coilovers would be needed , Bigger Brakes , Better Tyres , Uprated Bigger Roll Bar on the front and the rear and change some more bushes to poly ones.

So first thing to order was a new Front Panel , Radiator , Fans and a Air Con Radiator not sure if i needed a new one but got one anyway.

New Front Panel £70

New Radiator £30

And New Air Con Radiator £40

Couldnt find any new fans for cheap so ended up getting some from a brakers online for £40.

Got it all bolted up together.

Nice New Shiny Radiator.

Cleaned Up The Old Air Con Receiver.

All Nice And Shiny.

I ordered some Jom Coilovers from Ebay for £165 next day delivery.

And then got them installed on the front.

And installed the rear springs.

And installed the rear shocks.

Then i bought some new bottom arms that come with new ball joints and some new drop links from ebay for about £50 will get round to poly bushing them some when but just a quick fix for now as all the bushes were gone on all my bottom arms and drop links.

Got the bottom arms installed.

New Drops links installed think i will change these to metal ones when i get a uprated front roll bar.

And new ball joints installed.

Bought 2 new front wings from ebay for about £70 not genuine Audi ones but there do.

Got the wings Fitted need to be lined up a bit better but will sort that just before the spraying and tried to fit my old Honda wheels but were slightly out on the studs would of looked nice if they did fit.

A New Front Bumper And Splitter was needed next i ordered a new front bumper from ebay for about £40 was not genuine like the wings but will still do.

I found a brand new splitter on ebay for £100 it was not as good as the one i had but the one i had was a £300 oettinger one and couldnt really afford to splash that much out on just a splitter. I could of got a standard one for about £20 but really didnt want to put the front end back to standard so took the chance on this £100 one.

Got them test fitted together finger in the way once again lol ****ty iphone.

Ordered a new Big Intercooler (Wellycooler) for about £80 and some new pipe work for one side which come to about £40.

New Big Intercooler (Wellycooler).

Had to have some new brackets welded on the new intercooler for £30 and had to cut the new bumper bar (which i got from my local scrappy for £12) so the intercooler would fit in all snug and my mate the owner of Spraytec Bath did a quick Fix on my bonnet and i re wraped it with carbon wrap dont have any pics of the process but heres the finished product.

Bought a front tow strap from ebay for about £10 always been meaning to put one of these but never got round to it so i thought now would be the perfect time.

And got it installed and you can see the new pipe work and new brackets on the intercooler.

Had to cut a bit of of the front bumper where the grill goes dont know why they come with that bit in there anyway but it had to go.

And was test fitted on the car.

Then i had to cut the front splitter so the intercooler pipes could fit through so i would have the same sort of look i had before on the front end.

i tell you one thing you must be minted :p unlucky on the crash bad timing, but least it gave you an excuse to get shiny new parts :) looks good

Ah man, seriously bad luck! No wonder you went quiet!

Very glad to see you're fixing it up though :)

Any chance of a link to that front splitter? I quite like that.

As i was going to have some spraying done soon i thought i would sort the rust patch that was on the passengers door since i first had the car. So i sanded the rust down till it was gone then put a little bit of fiber glass on the indent followed by some filler on top with a coat of primer to keep the weather out till i get it all sprayed up.

Before with a little sanding.

After nice and smooth with a coat of primer.

Next was to get the exhaust decat bend cut out for a straight bit of pipe so the exhaust can sit higher and will have to make a bracket for it or modify the old one to fit.

Bend in the decat.

Bend cut out and straight welded on.

All back on.

Yeah bit of a ****** mate little set back but is nearly all fixed up. Im gonna get some anti roll bars for the front and the back i remember reading in your thread that its better to have a bigger roll bar on the back was thinking about getting a 25mm one on the front and a 28mm one on the back do you think that will be alright or should i go a little bit smaller on the front?

Heres the link for that splitter mate .

After cutting and sanding the new splitter it finally fit with all the pipework in place.

Test fit of the front bumper and new splitter.

how easily did the new splitter fit? cos i quite like that was thinking of cutting my orginal one up but....

And ended up buying some more angel eyes for £100 could of got standard ones a bit cheaper but didnt want to go back to the old standard look i like the custom look and think it makes the car look a bit newer than what it is.

Had to buy a new grille as well as the old one was all bent managed to get another metal grille from spirt9.com for about £50.

Surprisingly enough it fitted quite easily just all clips into place with the original bumper mate. Just cutting it and getting it to fit into place with all the pipes is a bit of a mission but can be done.

Managed to get a couple of alloy boot struts from my local scrapyard for next to nothing so thought i would have them considering i paid £20 for the one on the bonnet.
