Hi!

My gearbox is starting to make some problems today.
I was driving hard in 3rd gear and then move it to the 4th gear and
it was so hard that i totally missed it:motz:

Now i get grinding noise from 3rd to 4th and from 5th to 4th gear!

What could be the problem here, what have i destroyed?
Syncro,selector fork,.....?

Thanks!

Somethings definitely fubbered. Can't say what, but from past experience, get a new or low mileage used box. I had mine rebuilt twice cos the ppl who did it didn't do a good job, luckily they gave me a warranty for 12 months so all the parts and labour from the second build were free but i had no car for a month and then there was the inconvenience of destroying my box on the motorway (not fun).

How much money we talking here?
Can i put in S-Tronic transmission, anybody done this conversion before?
Sounds like 4th gear synchro gone! :sorry:
I'm thinking the same :/

There's a few strings to this....

The likely culprits are going to be the selector forks and synchros,as these are known weaknesses, and USP Motorsport in the US will sell you uprated forks.

Steel Shift Fork Transmission Upgrade / 6 Speed (02M / 02Q)

A gearbox rebuild isn't stupidly expensive, and mine was done for about £800,although nothing had actually broken.

There are dog-box kits from SQS Racing, but this is where you get into serious cost.....

If I remember this is one of the right kits...

SQS Racing | VW 6sp DOG-KIT 02M

About £3500 for this.

Skippy over on VAGOC has done the S-Tronic swap, but it is complex, and expensive...more than the SQS kit.

£650 for the rebuild, if i didnt have the warranty it'd be twice that. I found boxes on ebay for less, then a few breakers selling for even less

If it was the selector fork, you'd have difficulty with 3rd gear which uses the same fork.

This is worrying... Don't you have the loba/Sachs clutch kit?

Yes i'm on Loba/Sachs setup. When i fitted this combo, fast gear changing was not possible anymore
and the rattle is really annoying after 2000 miles!

Will need to investigate what is the real problem here before sayin anything else!

I'm having difficulty with 3rd gear does this mean I have to change the fork only ?

Hi everyone gearbox issue, need help on an Automatic to Manual swap.
I have an Audi A3 2002 Automatic Transmission,so; the gearbox Drive or 4th gear is not working anymore, for that reason I decided to swap to a manual transmission. My cars engine is a: 4 in-line, 1.6L, 8 valve, Motor# AVU

I was researching that maybe a gearbox from a VW Golf 1999 could fit, but i don`t know for sure, I was wondering if you guys can help me indicating which manual gearbox can fit, if any!!!

@AdrianA3 this is your 3rd post on an auto to manual swap - your 2002 car is an 8L model - this is the 8P section. Head across there and see what the say but personally I wouldn’t brother - just get a replacement box from a breaker.
