Hi All,
I am looking to get a Clifford 330X fitted. I want this particular model so I don't have to have another alarm fob on my key ring as it integrates in to the existing Audi alarm. This means I can use my normal Audi alarm fob to switch the Clifford alarm off and on. The reason for the alarm in the first place is because I want proximity, tilt and glass tamper sensors. I am hoping the alarm will be of enough of a deterrent to keep the all the little thieving toe rags in my area away. I am also hoping I will get the insurance slightly cheaper but not checked with them yet.

So any anyone had one fitted? Any problems? Any praises?

Anyone got a different branded Thatcham Cat 1 alarm which the same spec as I one I want?

Cheers!

So no one all all has had this alarm fitted?

I at first was thinking of alarms for my A3 however never got around finding the best make or system. I just really think the factory alarm is fine hence why I didn't do it.

Everytime I selected better security system through insurance quote it made sweet fa difference tbh, if its just for peace of mind, then oem system is good to disable immo wise, but Clifford may be more a deterrent, then again it may be a negative thing, as is attract more attention as to why you're trying harder to keep people away from the car, catch 22 scenario tbh.

I like the black jack feature as it shuts the engine down, but if they take it by another method a tracker would help find the car plus help maybe find others cars , i used to have a pager linked to my alarm ,plus cctv ,anti jacking ,gear lock ,pedal lock ,snap off steering wheel ,but cctv was a winner as it worked best for me and it was only a cheap one from argos ...

Thanks for all the advise guys. Looks like I may be the Guinea Pig then. All I want is proximity, tilt and glass tamper sensors and may be a pager linked to my alarm. Since these features cant be added to the OEM Audi alarm I gonna have to buy the Clifford.

Tilt sensors i believe are on the car already, open your driver side door and have a look down the the side of it, you should see two buttons?

Ok thanks sliced. I am not actually getting the car until next week. Just want a little more security for the car. I will look for the buttons then. Hopefully it will at least save me the price of a new tilt sensor. :sm4:

the Blackjax is a PITA!
had it on my old focus... having to punch in the code everytime the engine is switched off or a door is opened really does get on your t*ts
the remote engine start is pretty cool and functional... wanted to get that refitted onto the Audi but just havent got around to it and now im not sure if i will do it.

I did speak to an alarm fitter about the canbus integration for the Clifford alarms and it seems decent.

Yeah had the Blackjax in my 205 1.9GTI many many moons ago and def a pain! I wont be having that on the A3. Remote start is a cool feature I had that on the 205 too. I wont be adding it either as when I did have it only used it about 10 times. Well apart from testing it for the first day multiple times lol... Emailed a Clifford dealer and waiting for a response on cost ect.

i used the remote start every day! loved it... used to get the engine nice and warm before i got to the car in cold mornings... never had to sit on cold leathers or wait for ice to melt off the windscreen :)

Well if I'm honest even thought the car was on the drive and if anyone tried to take it the alarm would cut straight in. It just felt weird it running without me near it. TBH I was worried a car running with no one in it whilst people were walking past the house was just inviting trouble.. The car im getting although expensive comes with nearly every extra including heated seats. Just another week to wait hopefully. :sm4:

yh i used to have that worry but what with the car being deadlocked and the alarm active with the blackjax i had nothing to worry about while the engine was warming up. i live in a quiet area where everyone knows everyone so my neighbours knew that it had remote engine start so no one bothered with it... besides the fact the car is up on the drive so would look very weird if someone went up to the car.

how much are you getting the clifford for out of interest? i may be interested in getting the remote starter kit again lol

330x1 fitted £299
Proximity Sensor about £50 fitted
Glass tamper about £50 fitted.
Remote start £100 for the unit and about £100 fitted.

All the module fitted prices are based on a 300x1 being fitted.

Just checked with the dealer and the car already has a tilt sensor on it so at least thats £50 saved.

I am waiting for a call back for them to confirm it can all be fitted in an A3 without any extra harnesses ect and to also confirm exact price. Strangely he started off by saying it was £299 for the unit and £150 fitted! I told him straight away the normal price was £299 fitted. He then went on to say if its harder to do the work blah blah blah... I said to him well if you aint going to give me an exact price I'm going else where. He soon changed he tact and said well if its going in an A3 I cant see there being any problems and we will fit it for £300..... CHEEK lol..
This all from a reputable high street retailer/fitter and Clifford approved. :uhm: They are based in Hayes in case you wanted to know how far you need to travel.

hmmm weird that! when i asked about it they quoted me an extra £50 for the CanBus module that ties in the alarm system to the cars canbus system so that my original keys can be used and no extra fob needed.
sometimes i think these guys just pull prices out of their @rse

OK I think I have got a pretty good deal. £379.99 fitted:- 330x1 with proximity and glass tamper sensors. They are going to ring me back to confirm that this will all work off the Audi fob and that the total closure, guide home lights and tilt senor I already have will integrate in to the 330x and that they will programe this in FOC.

I am pretty sure it will need the canbus module,i have the clifford black jax with all the bells and whistles and i also had a smart track tracker fitted, plus i installed a security post so if they get it from our house after all of that basically they deserve to have it for the effort,i just wanted to make sure that if they did take it hopefully they werent going to get the chance to thrap the shoot out of it before i did (if i did) get it back.

The clifford is a bit of a pain in the *** yes but so are wheel clamps, steering wheel locks etc and not as much as coming out to no car, plus there is a sequence on the fob you can do that you dont have to put the code in everytime and just use it when your parking it up over night or leaving it somewhere.

They called back. £380 fitted with proximity and glass sensors. All the other functions i.e total closure, tilt sensor and guide home lights will not be affected as the 330x piggy backs the Audis alarm system. It will all work off the Audi key fob. No mention of a Canbus or any other module required.

Only thing they cant fit is a pager. He kept referring to a whole Viper or Clifford 650 alarm which I didn't want. Ill will just have to look for one to add which I am sure I will be able to find.

Car is booked in so as long as the install goes smoothly and I don't get constant false alarms ill be very happy :)

thats not entirely a bad price

Yep not a bad price at all considering its they are authorised Clifford dealers/fitters as well. Will definitely give me more peace of mind if I have to park in an unsavory area.
