Braking Vibration

Hi, I have a 2005 2.0 tdi 140 7 speed auto avant and I've noticed lately that my brake pedal vibrates slightly when the car has warmed up. This is only When Coming to a complete stop. The brakes work fine and stop well but in the last moment of stopping there is a vibration. Went to get all discs and pads changed today and got 2 opinions where the mechanics won't change them because their fine and there's no problem.

Ive read before that this engine with this gearbox has this issue but not been able to confirm it.

Can anybody help on this matter. It's driving me mad. Thanks

Do you get brake judder at high speed?

Nope no other symptoms of warped discs and they're not warped coz I did check them

If the brake pedal is vibrating then it could possibly be ABS related.
I've had this this exact problem on a Passat before, there were no fault codes on this Passat so I changed both front ABS sensors
giving me a 50 / 50 chance of getting it right.
I was lucky, problem fixed

I guess without plugging in a computer I won't be able to tell which ones are at fault.

This is interesting eh....I was recommended to floor the car a few times at speed and break hard to try and remove any crap that was on the disc and pads....unfortunately, the "vibe " is still there in my car. I wouldn't call my symptoms as a severe judder but you can certainly feel and notice a vibration coming down at speed. *******o for me is that I replaced the pads and discs last year about 20k Miles ago....If I need to do my discs again ...am thinking feck it, go for the S4, 345mm disc upgrade while am at it!

gheres only one way of clearing the cramp out and that's not the way. However yesterday I took the wheels off and tried to clear all the rusty bits. I could see a slight mm that could have been touching the pads. Didn't do anything tbh. It comes and goes. I want to change the sensors now. But don't wanna do the front and than find out its a rear.

Not the case SL4VE , I do have VCDS and this reported there were no fault codes at all. However I was sure this was an ABS issue so I opted to change 2 of the 4 sensors in the hope I would change the offending one. Lucky for me I did. No problems with pedal vibrating after that.

I wouldn't change the lads and discs if their not faulty. It won't solve anything. I was about to do the same yesterday. Even had to parts bought and than returned.

Vas67 yeah I'm in the same boat. No errors on the display when I hit check. But gonna change the sensors tomorrow. Is it a big job?

where did you get the sensors from because euros are showing them as £80 each which is a bit ouch

Yeah that is a bit expensive.

How about trying this then.

Disconnect any one of the 4 abs sensors, the Ecu will disable the abs function, ie, turn abs off.

Road test car and see if you're vibrating brake pedal stops. If it does then you can be 100% sure your issue is ABS related.

If problem is still there then you will need to look elsewhere.

Once you have done this reconnect sensor and clear out codes. If you can't do this then the ABS light will go out when you go over 10mph, although the code for the disconnected sensor will remain in Ecu until properly reset with vcds or similar.

I scanned the car today and no errors. Than disconnected each sensor and checked it with a volt meter. Spinng the wheels and all the sensors are working fine as they should be.

Ater 2 hours I greased up the pads and calipers and shut up shop.

Vas67 only just saw your message. But I tested and nothing.

You say you tested and nothing...... you mean you disconnected an ABS sensor and the problem was not present?

Or did I read your message wrong?

I tested everything and it all works the same with the small vibrations. None of the sensors are at fault even had the back seats out to test with meter

Shame you did not get a result, I'm sure you are going to persevere with this.
let us know if you get a fix. Other than discs / pads and maybe suspension bushes not sure what else to suggest

i dont know, i greased the calipers and pads and still their creaking too. i give up for now, got other things to deal with. will have another think over the weekend.

i think the only way to resolve this is to start spending money changing parts that are fine until i get lucky. not something i want to do when ive only bought the car this month


also just had a thought, i wonder if its a lower standard of brake fluid in the system. a drain and refill of some high quality fluid may have a positive effect?
