Locking wheel bolts.

Hi All,
I should be getting my A3 next week. I have decided because the rims are in good nick I am going to add another set of locking wheel nuts. When I put my vehicle details on the Mcgard site (A3 2006) it comes back with 28018SU the better version are the 28018SL which have the same dimensions but are strangely not given as an option when I do a search on my car. The problem is I have the 18" 20 spoke alloys which were an upgrade and I don't know if they use the standard bolts or if the bolts are longer or have different dimensions from the standard ones. Does anyone know?

By 20 spokes, do you mean OEM Speedlines? If so, as long as you've not got spacers on, you'll need the following bolts...

Thread = M14x1.5
Seat = Radius
Head = 17mm
Length = 27.5m

Hi Leeds,

I dont know the name of them but they were a factory upgrade. I presume there would not be any spacers fitted as there would be no point. Is that about right?

When you say you want to add another set, do you mean there are already locking wheel nuts on there & you want to make it so you have two locking wheel nuts per wheel?

I wouldn't advise it if that's the case, they are not as strong as normal wheel nuts & could cause you problems

Other than that just go with the ones McGuard recommend for you vehicle, if they are OEM wheels you will be fine

Oh I didn't realise the locking bolts would not be made of a similar strength steel. Might have to leave it then. Hopefully the alarm I want to get fitted will deter any thieves...
