There is a thread for build dates for the sportback, but I thought that it would be useful to have one for the 3 door. I am interested because I placed an order 5 weeks ago and have yet to get a date and am wondering if this is usual? The dealer says he is chasing, but I don't believe a word of it.

So how long after you placed your order did you get a build date?

What week number is it due?

Thanks

Yeah I'd be interested too. I placed my order for 3 door S Line 4 weeks ago, no build date. Although the dealer estimated 15th May delivery :( long time to wait. I hear that there could be a few delays due to things like Xenon plus headlights and the S Line spec. I was told today that there is no build date for mine yet.

5 WEEKS?!?!?! Pffft.

I ordered mine on Nov 1st. Due to collect this Thursday. That's 18 Weeks from order to delivery (Private sale from a dealer).

I ordered mine a week before christmas and was allocated build week 8.

I had an update today that said my car has been sitting in final assembly for the past 2 weeks but the dealer has no information as to why. I've been told that the car should be ready for collection in the last week of March.

Ordered mine in January - spec change on one that was pre-ordered with a week 6 build date. I'm told that it, too, has been sitting in final assembly or some such since shortly after that. My dealer has been chasing it and has forwarded me some email info from Audi that says they have 344 cars (models not specified) from build weeks 4, 5, 6 and 7 that are outstanding with no reason given. They say they are chasing the factory.
I was also told that there are supply problems with Xenons.

Oh, I hope not as I've ordered mine (Sportback) with xenon pack. Dealer told me that wouldn't delay build - but then they would say that!

I must have been very lucky then. Ordered my S-Line on 12th Jan & am collecting it tomorrow. Original build week was week 9, but got bought forward a week to week 8. I have added quite a few extras onto the car too, so very unlikely it was already in the build queue to my exact spec.

The only thing I can think is that the Audi Centre I have bought it through is part of Sytner Group - they have 13 Audi Centres in the UK. If build slots are allocated based on sales volume, then Sytner should get a decent number of slots. Roll on tomorrow.

Got my order in front of me, I ordered 4/1/13 and I got a confirmed build date of April 1st and delivery either last week in April or first week in may. It's too long if you ask me!

ill just be glad when yours turns up, can't keep going out the rain to take pics, with lights on , lights off , spots on , spots off, spots on with DLR..... Lol

Okay, so got a note today from my dealer that the system said that my car was in the system at "step 26 out of 30". He wrote that at step 30 the car is finished at the factory.

Is this correct or is he spinning me along?
If correct how long to finish the last four steps?

Thanks

I'd be interested to find out too. This is all new to me but all i've seen is that you get a build week given.... if you get steps as well id like to know where mine is up to. Totally new experience for me, nothing like ordering my last two ford focus's!! :)

All I think it works like this:-

Status 10 - Your car has a rough build week number
Status 20 - Your week number has been confirmed
Status 30 - Parts gathering
Status 38 - The car has been built
Status 39 - Its on the train to Emden in Germany
Status 40 - It is at a UK port (Sheerness, Grimsby or Tyne) dependant on where you dealer is located.
Status 50 - Transport to dealer
Status 70 - Dealer

Sounds about right.
There are apparently 2 staus reporting systems running and they don't always give the same information.
Dealer told me that mine is at Step 8 of the production process which he said was final inspection, this sort of ties up with your step 38 - car has been built.

Mine was build week 8 and due at the dealer 2nd week of April...they called this morning and said it arrived at the dealer last night...prep next week and I go to collect on Thursday next week. Seems the delivery process post factory is efficient!....EDIT: now Saturday 16th as the dealer can't release until the 'Launch Date' for the SB.....

Okay, so he was spinning me on. Two weeks later I chased up again and my car has still not moved on. Now looks like my car won't be with me for a couple of months - so 4 months after order.

I do have to say that if I had known that at the outset, I would have looked elsewhere.

I don't think that's a fair conclusion. A couple of us on here had our cars sitting on 'final inspection' for around 4 weeks with no movement whatsoever. This is outside the control of the dealer and Audi UK. Fortunately both those cars arrived in UK this week but there is still a holdup because there are a lot of deliveries outstanding on which the dealers, and Audi UK, are depending to meet their targets for March. My dealer assures me I will get mine in March albeit at the end rather than the beginning.

Two weeks ago the dealer told me that me car was in production (step 26), yet today he told me that the car was still awaiting a production slot and not to expect anything for a couple of months.

The 4 month lead time may not be the the dealers fault, but to date he has not been proactive and I still do not have a build date two months after placing my order.

Rant over, I'll get back in my box and continue to chalk off the days.

Just been told that my build date has slipped to week 24. Given the likely additional 4 weeks for delivery from Germany it will be close to six months from order to delivery.

Is this a record??

I am not happy, but the dealership does not appear bothered. Any advice on what I can do, I am seriously considering giving up and buying nearly new secondhand.

Thanks

I ordered mine at the end of feb and have recently been told the build should start around beginning of June for a July collection I'm guessing but I'm not holding my breath! Never waited so long for a car! This will be my 3rd Audi that has had to be built to my spec and I've never known such a wait! But have decided to try forget it as I can't imagine the dealer can do much, if not anything at all! Just hoping its worth the wait!!!

Check the est delivery date on the contract. If it's past that they will give you a courtesy car.

Definately waiting a while but doesn't seem to be uncommon for this A3 model. I ordered Jan 31st and my delivery is 'sometime in july'; week 27 is currently when its due to be built but thats still not locked in. The wait is killing us all!!!

When I ordered my current (8P) Sportback back in 2011 the total delivery time was 19 weeks (17 October - 2 March)

At least by waiting you do get exactly what you want. Being my 8th A3 I was well aware of the delivery time and ordered accordingly.

haha - I was the same. Got a bit miffed that customs clearance took longer than it should. Hopefully yours will not.

I really thought you had already collected your car and put a couple of thousand miles on the clock...:)
