De-cat bad for the turbo?

Basically ill try and cut the story down.

I have a custom straight through cat back and i went to my local exhaust place to get them to remove the cat. They basically said they can do it but it could destroy my turbo within half a year as it will be spooling up too quick.

Is this true? :S

Im sure theres ALOT of people with straight through pipes

Not true, that's why turbos have a internal waste gate. Just sounds like somebody trying to be a know it all

I mean i didnt believe it really my self but i thought it must be true as they are an established exhaust centre :S

Oh iv just been informed you do get cats, but they are different to petrol cats.

I personally wouldn't remove it, unless you massively modding it ( ie bigger nozzles, custom map)

Audi diesels have a cat, and you can remove it and still pass an mot. Removing it will improve flow, increase turbo spool and reduce turbo temps- particularly worth it if you use a hybrid turbo that usually spool slower cos of the heavier compressor wheel

I've just bought a decat for my 130 pd before I go in for a remap.....hope this line about killing turbos is wrong !

Some small turbo's are known to surge and by removing the cat you experience "boost creep" which means the turbo overboosts even with the vanes fully closed ! Surging is very bad for turbo/engine as it can lift heads and snap the shaft which almost every time could lead to hydrolock !
If you have a KP39 or Garett GT1749 Va i suggest you leave the cat in place ! I would remove the cat if you have a bigger, slower spooling turbo...
