Gops' Subtle mod thread

When i get the detail done, i'll get them sealed then rav :)

Rightioo its been some time since ive updated this thread, been a busy bee i have so now that ive got some time (and a coffee that im just about to get the mrs to make for me) i thought id let you guys know what ive been up to! Those who have me on their BookFace know in advance but here goes...

First up - VERY BIG THANKS TO BADGER 5!! Went to get my b5 fitted from bill and as everyone said, hes a nice down to earth guy with bundles of knowledge! Was great to have a lil chat and to see that yellow beast!! Also seen another blue s3 there that sounded sooo good! Has now made me want a miltek but cant really afford at the moment due to bigger savings i have to make but Anyways got this bad boy fitted:

It sounds soooooooo good! I keep lifting off to hear the DV hehe! But i had a little problem where i had oil spray in the bay.. boo! I had a split PVC pipe so i had to get a pipe quicktime!

heres the split pipe:

Heres the replacement pipe:

photo34.jpg

That felt so much better, the car seemed so much nicer and quicker with alot more torque! Its due for a service so when its serviced and theres a dyno day i'd love to see what it will be running!

But that was my last proper mod for a long time now. Although now i have 2 weeks off i need a good detail but before that my sister bought a nice little A1 TDI! Really nice car tbh, not that much smaller than the S3 tbh, alot more gadgets etc! Made her get the S-line as the ordinary one looked poo!

photo32.jpg

Gave that a clean..

photo31.jpg

Gave it a wash, clay and Jeff werkstat acrylic kit protection (2 Layers) should keep that looking good for a whilee..

Anyhow back to the better car, time for a detail! Now its a first for me but im an avid reader of detailing world and have had lots of advice from detailers and S3 Rav as hes done his twice! Big thanks to rav as he lent me quite abit of stuff! Good cousin he is!! (Owe you a meal atleast!!) So the kit i used:

Megs G220 DA
megs compound and finish
some pads
blackfire midnight wax (what a product!!)
Blackfire metal sealant
poorboys wheel sealant

Starting with the wheels off.. wanted to do this as i dont think its been done for a long long time!

I got them abit cleaner than that but it was abit hard to take all the caked on stuff... Got to the rear left wheel to clean and thought id have a little look around to see if everything is ok, until i find this...

photo26.jpg

I cannot believe the H&R spring has snapped! First one ive come accross as i couldnt find anyone who had a h&R spring snap on them! I have emailed H&R but have had no reply since.. So i guess its new springs all around for me then ey! Bit gutted as spenditure has to be cut on the car if i ever want a house but its one of them ey!.. anyway continuing on... the detail follows... I'll just post all the pics.. :

photo25.jpg

This was from the rear tailgate alone!!

photo24.jpg

Final one i took... RE-FLEC-TION!

photo12.jpg

iTS DAMN HARD WORK!! I would do it again but using some better compounds and in doors as i dont fancy getting tanned like that again! Its been a real long few weeks but there are a few things still need doing to the car like the springs, few bushes and a service but thats more towards july time when i can splash out on the car! Im out this week to london for the mrs bday but when picking up from sheff, i seen this bad boy!!:

OH yeah, I forgot to mention I got my Porsche caps thanks to Scott! I'll get some pics up soon!

"cough" faggot pose "cough" haha, only joking mate, looks split mint, wish mine had bodywork like that. When you coming up for a meet? I was at meds ova day, that f1 car looked stunning.

Haha it's my g-unit pose! Iz be the shet! :) I'm actually down until tomorrow morning! If your not up to much later, PM me!

Mate you shoould have said, ive drank far too much to drive tonight haha. Time you up until tomorrow? Btw you need a better g-unit pose haha.

Ahh no worries man lol! Im leaving early morning bud! I'll be up again soon! Hopefully with my springs done!

Only just seen this somehow!

Car is looking great Gops, I had the pleasure of driving this car at the first B5 dyno day back in November 2010, and i have to say it was absolutely fantastic. If you've not driven a standard S3 I suggest you have a try, just to help you realise how great yours is!

Look after it man :) I lok forward to reading more

Cheers prawn! My cars been around abit ey lol! Ahh comments like that make me greatful to have this car! hopefully there's another rolling road day! Need to see what this B5 has done! Hopefully see your beast there too!

I dont know how owned it before Jo did, but Jo was telling me that the previous owner had copied every single detail from Glens relentless testing back in the day, and replicated it perfectly.

it certainly drove and handled better than any other S3 I've had the pleasure of piloting. Very well balanced and setup, and I seem to recall it put out very good st1 power on the day as well :)

An all round 'good one' I reckon

The owner previous to me was Bantam1(John), he moved to a BMW 130i. Glens original setup is awesome, with only the tyres the limiting factor, not that I ever had the front end wash out on me in that specific car.

Need to sort the front end of mine one out actually, then I will be a happy boy!

The car is sweet! Handles great but needs new springs, will got them ASAP and you can have my fronts I have on ATM if you want joe!

Well another little update guys! As you already know my springs snapped BOOOO!! got a new set but couldnt fit them so i gave the car into Mid VW for a service, springs and any other MOT failure and ended up with a bill for £612!! Not happy but the springs were worse than i thought! heres a few pics:

Now i have no idea how old these were but just to be safe, id check yours if you have them for any cracks just incase. These were appauling so i'll be sending a pic to H&R just to see what they say about it, if they knew this happens with these springs or any other cause which I can avoid in the future.. Next up DISC AND PADS! Looks like original LCR discs with ferodo's and motul fluid going in at the end of august as im skint now!!! I also think that Mid VW put 5W-30 in my car when i wanted 5-40!! You reckon i should leave it or flush it in 6 months?

Christ mate thats shocking, how the hell has the sprig bent like that? 5w-30 will be fine, as you know on our old cars 5w-40 is idealy what you want but i wouldnt just drop the oil now for the sake of it, just wait until the 6 month oil change is due.

Flippin heck mate, those springs are shocking!!!

They were so bad!! The new ones feel so great! Car handles like never before!! I can really push it into a corner without a flintch! Also done my alarm battery mod! Wow it worked lol!!

Yes! New h&rs in blue! Look abit stronger tbh and the way the coils are is different. I'll try n take a pic for comparison

Sooooo its been some time since I've updated my thread here.. Ive done the usual mods ready for Stage 2 but i've tried hard to make the car sweet. I'd like to go hybrid soon but im looking to buy a house so all my money is being pumped there and away from my car.. Soo without further delays, heres a lot of pics:

Firstly, i had a twitchy right foot.. managed a good average here!

But well as most have done, I went out and bought the relentless DP and Sports cat and was going to fit it but it didnt seem easy.. Luckily I had a brilliant price from Midland VW which i couldnt resist. He fitted it and told me how much a pain it was, but i was thankful! No pics of the install but pics when i recieved it!

The car seemed to spool quicker and had alot more poke! Also sounds great on the standard exhaust! All i need now is a catback... More on that later but I went onto my next project.. FMIC and catch can.

I had a few boost leaks so i had to eliminate them. First starting with the FMIC. Again no pics during install as it was a right PITA and i would of dropped my phone - as with the catch can but i have a few random pics..

Heres a pic with it installed..

Now with the catch can, it was cold outside and i couldnt be bothered to take pics.. But when i was ripping everything out the car, i found this pipe split!

nasty! But when it was all fitted, I vented it to the rear of the car

Engine bay needs a clean! heres a pic of what I emptied two weeks after:

But now thats all done.. what next? Well my steering rack needed doing, it was failing badly so i had to Give it int Midland VW as i bought a rack from ebay for £80! here was my alignment before the install:

Thats probably what made the tyres go to canvas! I also went to change my Brake fluid whilst jody had the car

good stuff! At this point the car felt very good, pulled well and stopped very well! I havnt taken many pics but I changed my discs and pads which I got from Bill @ Badger 5! Thanks for that bill!

Soo now stage 2 was in sight, i thought i'd get a relentless mani but once i recieved it I felt that it was quite abit of work to install. With mis alignments bill has been seeing I felt it was better to install it once i get the engine rebuilt. That way it could be correctly done. So at the moment its lying in the loft..

Still need to check its alignment with a gasket to see if its any good or if it needs porting..

As many of you all know, i posted a thread that some scum tried to rob my plastic mirrors! I had to get a new pair and whilst at it, I also bought an andymac sub for £60!! Thanks to the boys at COV i have new goodies!!!

I havnt been able to fit the andymac just yet as im changing the HU and all the speakers to Focal's.. More on that when im closer to doing it... I decided to take a break and markey my new film. Many of you may have seen it..

:)

Soon after my fab success, I decided to be a part of the HID group buy on ASN and bought a 55W 6000k Kit including free sidelights and some smoked indicator bulbs. I also bought some new facelift headlights and got stuck into sorting this out..first thing was to sort out all the wiring inside the headlights:

For those who said it was hard to put prefacelift motors into facelight lights, you need to push the motor in deep and pull the inside of the headlight up so it will clip in like this:

But once done, it was time to cut the wings and install the lights

Looks alot better! Defo worth doing as its alot fresher looking!

Now i can see at night

I also dismantled the old lights to see whats inside. The projectors need to be replaced as they arent very good. S2000 projectors are nice to put in.

Also fitted my armrest! Best mod so far!!

Shortly after all this, my car failed to start! I felt it was my fuel pump so i had to act quickly and bought a new fuel pump, and installed it. I bought it for £180ish

With that fitted, the car felt alot better and idled alot better! But it didnt cure the non starting issue. Scanned it for faults thanks to Rob (Arrkon) and it showed engine speed sensor (crank sensor) which may i add was a PITA to fit! Damn thing! I had to harlem shake the thing out and refitted the new one. It cost me £82 as i got a hefty discount for being TPS's no1 customer lol. Car now seems nice to drive and semi- fast.

So whats next then? My actuator is weak and ive known this for some time now.. I contacted Beach buggy Dan and will be getting an off the shelf actuator from him shortly when they are in stock. Many thanks for that by the way Dan, your a real life saver! Also i did a few logs on VCDS and seen the best i was getting was 190g/s. Not bad for a 182k miled car on its original turbo but feel like i need to change the MAF for a new one.. the old one might just be abit old so its worth changing for a new one i guess. I also have a leak in my power steering!! Some rocks from a lorry fell from its bed and smashed under my car and hit the cooling pipe that attaches to the metal charge pipe underneath. Im yet to get this part so prices i guess could be around £60 or more. Once i've done all this, im looking for a lovely exhaust from my car! After seeing the work on tuffty's car, I contacted bill and will be booking myself in next month for an exhaust and stage 2 remap! Hopefully everything goes well but I do have one more thing to do.. I contacted forge for a redesigned piston and they sent me this FOC

photo20.jpg
[/URL]

Hats off to forge, was great service from them! I have not yet fitted it but I will do soon when I can be bothered! As far as updates go, thats it for now! I did buy some lovely wheels which need a refurb. Got a price from Midland Car care for around £225 with a ceramic coating for all 4 wheels. Will need some spacers with it but for now, heres some pics of the current state of the wheels:

Oh and I cleaned my car!

Nice work pal that mani will deco need loads taking off it took me hours doing mine properly to size of gasket and head and inside it too pal

Thanks guys! Took me ages to upload all them pics! Ill have to keep updating regular. Will pop some figures up when it's mapped too!

Looking good Gops especially the headlights.
I would buy some alloys than spend that much but that's me.

Cheers jase! The headlights make it look a lot more modern! The wheels I got cheap but I like to make sure they're perfect and don't mind spending the money for it  I want your rims, but could never find them!

They seem to have disappeared off the radar, last of a dying breed.

They have! I've been looking since I bought the car! Also thought I'd share, had a play with an Evo today. Don't know what it was but he wasn't happy when I overtook!
Was he on an AA flatbed ?

Thanks man! :) although seems like so much effort for a few improvements but its all worth it.

I've ordered a new maf and the power steering oil cooling pipe from TPS today. Pipe was £65 and maf was £140 but with exchange it's £92. Hopefully there's nothing else that needs changing now. Maf was only bought so that when bill maps it, there are no problems or anything holding it back (apart from the turbo)

All coming together nicely gops. Think the headlights really freshen up the front as well as the added bonus of being able to see at night now. I'm down on Saturday so will catch up propely then. Armrest makes all the difference though don't it!

Ok just got back from Tps! Got my maf on exchange and my oil cooler pipe..

Although I need to clean my Jetex filter.. Anyone done theirs yet? I seem to recall ppl using fairy and water and not oiling it as it kills the maf?

Nice work G, I'm impressed and jealous at the same time. The only upgrade I've managed to fit recently is a Recaro child seat ;)

cheers Rav! Yeah they definitely look better! You need to drive the car now, pulls a lot better!

Yeah, I've done mine. I washed it out with warm water and picked out the flies and other bits of crap and then soaked it in the Jetex detergent (ref: 100.2) to get it properly cleaned. An old toothbrush works well to clean out any foreign objects that remain and then I left it for 12ish hours to dry naturally in the house. Then I lightly oiled the filter with the Jetex aerosol. I've had no problems with the car since it was cleaned.

Sweet! Cheers dude. Might get a s2000 filter whilst I clean this one properly! Only £18 in GSF!

I had a look at your thread a few days ago and still cant get over how mint it looks despite the high mileage lol

nice one!
