Hi all,

I think i have may have a faulty PCV valve on my 20tfsi A4. Oil around the rocker cover and coil packs, small amount of suction on oil filler cap, when the oil filler cap is removed the engine stutters and then stalls. Tickover is a little lumpy but always has been

I also have increasingly high oil consumption - now around 1ltr to 500 - 1000 miles depending on use (better on M ways).

Other than this the car runs fine.

Any help and advice appreciated.

It's a Sline special edition (22bhp) Avant Quattro 2007 model.

sounds like it could be
just change it there not to much £££
and easy to change

Fixed. Version C out Version N in. Car feels better, smoother and let's hope the oil consumption improves. The old PCV was gunked up and didn't have the rattle of the new one.

I replaced ours not long ago made a huge difference, oil consumption is better but still feels wrong topping it up all the time. Some owners replace the breather pipe when changing the PCV I didnt on mine but wondered what people's thoughts were on this

By the breather pipe do you mean the rippled alloy pipe that goes from the rocker cover to the turbo air inlet?

is that the oil catch can upgrade that I read about http://www.stertman.com/ui/templates/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=bsh_a4_b7_20t_catchcan and aren't Forge developing one too. I find it puzzling how some owner's engines don't touch any oil while others guzzle the stuff. Really weird imho!

Cheers for that. If the new Audi version doesn't make any difference on oil use I'll consider one of these. Looks complex though!?

So far the car is running better, low rev pull is way better with a much smoother tick over. It's quieter too even on the motorway, the exhaust used to be quite boomie but that seems to have quieted down a bit

UPDATE. OIL LIGHT ON AGAIN, thats 1 LTR IN 492 miles so the new pcv may have improved the running of the car but its done sweet FA to help the oil use.

Anyone got any advice?

That oil consumption seems a little high to me, have you spoken to Audi about it? Mine uses some oil but no where near that much

Almost afraid to contact Audi. I might call my local dealership and see what the service manager says. He will probably say bring the car in and we'll look at it. Cha Ching.

I'm not sure where you are but I have a good friend who works for Audi in the service and parts dept Salisbury, if you are struggling drop me a pm with your car info and I will ask him for you, at least that way you will get an honest reply

Hi I was having the same issue as you a while back I have a dtm which is basically the same engine you have. Turned out it was my turbo that was the cause of the oil consumption seemed to boost just fine and plenty of power but the mechanic took off the intercooler hose and it had quite a lot of oil in there also on further inspection there was a nice bit of play in the shaft. If it is the turbo it might not break the bank though cant remember the exact figure but they are offered on an exchange so that should soften the blow a bit. Let me know how you get on

Is the symptom for a f@cked PCV, loss of oil? My PCV was shot to bits but there was no loss of oil as a result of the state it was in.

it can according to others cause undue pressure in the crankcase forcing oil past the piston rings, that's what I have read on other posts/forums.

Just a quick update, the car is having some tests done a week on Tuesday. The garage are checking the turbo and pumping pressurised air in to the cylinders to see what happens. They also mentioned a smoke machine that highlights blockages, leaks and breathing problems.

Good luck Matey....sounds like a compression test to me!smoke machines?......Jaysus they will be slitting a goat's throat at midnight dressed in black at this rate! Hope you get to the bottom of it anyway and keep us posted.

Car back from the garage. Turbo is ok. Smoke test revealed a breathing problem so they have fixed that and told be to see if it helps. More later...
