Hi, Just wondering if anyonw has had this, I know the rear wiper motors are prone to water getting into the internals then the internals of the tailgate etc etc.
About a week ago my wife said to me her rear washer had stopped working (2007 170 TDI 3 dr), reservoir was nearly full and I could hear the motor operating but nothng coming out the back, gave the jets a poke with a bit of wire and they seemed clear, started listening a bit more carefully and could hear the water coming out behind the panel beside the back seat, (off side) and when I pulled back the base of the seat I could see soapy water down the side. So didn't have time for further investegation until tonight, got the seat base out, panel off and the washer pipe is hard plastic corrugated stuff, taped with cloth tape to the wiring loom and it was leaking, bit more than a pinhole and not easy pipe to repair so I found some small bore metal pipe in the garage, cut the plasitic pipe at the leak, sleeved the metal inside and cable tied both ends, leak solved but did the washers work, No.
Further investegation, another pinhole leak further up the loom about 12 inches, this time I just cut the whole length out and replaced with rubber pipe but guess what, still no washers. So built up the interior again and in the process found water P'ing out the tailgate panel, removed and it's flooding out the wiper motor, starngely around this time it all actually started to work but once the wash cycle is finished the water seeps out of every orrfice of the motor for about the next 5 mns into teh inside of the tailgate and guess what, wipers are nowon permanantly, so I guess we need a new motor.
Not impressed, the washer pipe seems really poor quality and to tape it to the wiring loom which is now soaking seems like a really bad idea, worse actually is the whole leaking into the tailgate and various mechanisms in there but I have known about that since my old Mk4 Golf days, wouldn't it have made sense to rectify the old problem on the newer models, or is that just too simple, oh yeah that would have meant building in another money making fault somewhere else, Ok just don't bother Audi, cheers!

Made me laugh, but yeah you're right. The rear wiper motors are always getting flooded, not witnessed anything that extreme before though.

Still, you sound like a handy guy to have about

Reading this now I should maybe have put it in the Rants section.
I was interested if anyone else had experienced pinholes in the washer pipes though, worries me considerably as you could have a leak almost anywhere and have water leaking into the car and not even know about it, also interested if I a likely to find through time that I get more, should I be changing whole lengths of pipe or has some cak handed previous owner damaged some of it, what's most likely???

i put audi uk on the spot last year when i asked them why they had not recalled the wiper motors, they initially tried to palm me off, untill i told them to google the problem, result was i got mine replaced F.O.C :yahoo:

Use A3 8V rear wiper motor instead. They seem to be improved on sealing... Changed mine today. Only thing is the plug that difers from the A3 8P.

No need to fit a 8V one. The latest 8P motor was modified with better seals.

Have you seen the prices on the bay for the 8V motor? They are super cheap comparing with the 8P ones... I got mine for 60€ shipping costs included and with only 13000km on it...

Got a new motor from Lincon Audi at a good discount and it's fitted now and all well, just really the washer pipe and potential for future leaks that worries me but fine for now, cheers for the advice.

Just got a new motor (8E9955711 revision E) via my local VW dealer for £82 inc-vat but when trying to fit I cannot get the rear wiper off. I assume that it is on a spleen but I have removed the cover and 13mm nut, sprayed with some WD40 but I have tried using more force than I would like and still stuck. Any ideas? Is their something I am missing? Thanks in advance.

Have you removed the three bolts that hold the motor in place?

Yes bolts undone, its the wiper arm that seems to be stuck to the spleen from the motor. Tried pulling from the back, prising from the front, bit of WD40 etc. but no joy! Looks like I will have to write off the wiper arm and get a new one of those also.

PS - I have taken off the cover from wiper arm and undone the 14mm bolt from their to.

They do stick a bit at times due to the design, just a case of doing what yoiu have already been doing over and over and try not to lose the head with it. I had some small molegrips lightly clamped over mine and tried to move it side to side, then a big flat blade screwdriver to lever against the spindle of the motor underneath, no point worrying about marking it now if it's going in the bin anyway nd loads of WD40 as you said, eventually it should go. Danger as you also said is you break the wiper arm as it's plastic and need to buy another, doubt they are that dear though?

It's off, god it was stuck fast! Half a can of WD40 and lots of time to soak. I borrowed an unusual clamp and screw thread pusher from my local friendly garage but even with this I had to use more force than I wanted! Thanks for suggestions.

Wiper arm was a surprising £30 to replace!

Hi Guys, So I replaced mine with a new "E" version from Lincoln Audi plugged it in and nothing, no water spray, no noise, checked the fuses which are ok any ideas?

I'd scan the car with VCDS and clear any related error codes. If you do not have access to VCDS disconnect battery for around 15 minutes and try again.
