Been thinking what to do with the spare 1.8t that I will have after my stroker build. A couple of us here in Dubai are scheming to build a track car that would be used on short coarse racing, a bit like an autocross setup but with 2 or 3 long stretches thrown in the mix.

So the car options to transplant the S3 engine into are as follows
1 - A3 8l - if there is a manual one up for sale when the time comes.
2 - seat ibiza 6k, these seem to be the cheapest ones to buy.
3 - seat ibiza 6k2 facelift
4 - seat ibiza 6l

so what would be the lightest car once stripped down to a track car. I have a soft spot for the 6k ibiza as they look identical to the vw polo playa I had back in South Africa.

I would love to drop the K04 lump into a mk1 golf but they don't exist here :(

Bit pricey but lotus elise would make a pukker car with the 1.8t ; )

whaahahaha, are you suggesting I sell my S3 to afford that? I think you in cahoots with my wife to get rid on my S3.
I have changed the topic to include the word "budget"

I can pick up an ibiza 6k model for about £500, its going to be tired though. Ibiza 6k2 for about £1000 and ibiza 6L for about £1500.
not sure on the A3 price and I guess I could also use a mk4 golf. Just looking for the lightest car.

The 6k Ibiza without a doubt.

+1 for the ibiza.
check out seatcupra.net - a few people have done 1.8T conversions including this one which was a trackday toy:

ibiza..
but I may be biased :D

They're all crap to start with.

And none of them will be cheap

****** good fun trying though :)

Yeah I think the 6k ibiza is going to be the winner. We dont have a lot of options for older cars here as most of the old cars get shipped off to the dodgy parts of the middle east. Probably to be used as car bombs :ninja:

I just like the shape of the 6k. I thought they would be lighter but looking at the seat forum, they just over 1050kg, I saw the one guy was just under 1000kg with polycarb windows.

Bill, yours is a 6k facelift, correct ? Is the front arch stock or badger5 product

How dare you speak of VAG cars like that:asskicking:

Fun is what its all about, I will have to try not break it as often as you do yours

New Mini too. Which was on here I think.

Mate had an s1 Elise with a 1.8t only like 240bhp and it was ballistic.

my wings are "badgered" yes.. front +75mm wider per side, rears also non-std
9*17 rims on it, wide tracked etc

Handling is nice now. (finally)
Stock handling.. Ewwww.

And here's another 'wide body' Ibiza, this time a 6K. It was built by RSD using, I believe, some of the last remaining original bits from the rally cars. I think this ended up in Australia? This had TT running gear underneath hence 1.8T and I believe 4wd??

for a cheap track car why not look for something already made? theres a mk3 vr6, lowered, stripped and has bucket seats for less than a grand on Ebay.

saxo vtr/vrs, pug 106, clio 182
any of the above will do. you dont want to be spending loads on it. just something you can rage on the track but you wouldnt give 2 Shoots if the engine blew up...

That would be an epic road/boat trip though. Pity the cheap track car wouldn't actually work out to be very cheap afterwards.

I vote lupo or arosa if they exist in dubai.

Yeah, be a bit expensive to ship it over. I will have a ko4 engine when I get the stroker build and running. So looking for a vag car where the engine will be a drop in situation.

I have seen a arosa for sale on our local car classifieds but I'm scared it will roll over around a corner

Erm, it just didn't handle very well at all and it didn't have enough power.
Here's a mate's video. I'm on it near the start holding up the evos (just not quite so much as the arosa) in the white ibiza. That was my old 2.0 8v with 135bhp. The replacement 16v Cordy has a bit more oomph thanks to 182 bhp.

Mate of a mate has a stripped and caged Ibiza (not sure on chassis but think its 2000 plate) which gave my heavy *** S3 a good run for its money at Bedford autodrome. All he had done to the engine was revo stage 2 and supporting mods on a K03s. Bucket seats, cage, an full suspension all done on a serious budget. Car only cost £700 in the first place.

All in all it was cheap and did the business.

thats my plan, seen a mk2 for about £500, its a manual so he will never sell it so it should be around when I come round to getting one.
plan ATM (in my mind)

strip out interior, including dash.
fit a milk crate for divers seat
fit cage
fit the ko4 engine with a suitable engine mods & gearbox
brakes
suspension
fmic and badger5 goodies.

knowing me I will probably get a ko4 hybrid

do ibizas have a metal front slap panel....were are these bonnet pins going through to ?

Did seem like fun. Just needs better brakes and more confidence.

Where is Tam these days. Never on here anymore.

He definitely needed more confidence but that car did seem to catch you out I you were too hard on it. Personally I think it was too stiff! Lifted a back wheel on most corners and was very harsh on any bumps.

Cocking the backwheel is fine. Will do that with cage or even just a stiff rear ARB on tighter corners. Probably just needs to play with spring rates or sort out some adjustable shocks. But as its a budget track car i doubt they`ll get touched.

Just for interests sakes, which would be a better turbo for quicker spool and do about 350hp
k04 hybrid or gt28.

i already have a ATP log style manifold for a gt28 turbo.

ko4 hybrid would spool quicker without a doubt. Whether there is a reliable manifold in existance is another question....

I'd go ATP and GT28 if you've already got a manifold.

I'm hoping there will be a reliable mani when the time comes :yum:
as the track setup is almost like an autoX style, so the less lag the better.

if there is no mani out then I guess I won't have any options
