Well here it is,blanking plates arrived today fitted them, and after about 20 mins of driving the engine management is on, have reset it but it's now back on again, plates to be removed tomorrow, ******.

the light will come on you either put up with it and be satified you are not circuating old ****ty gasses through your engine or get the egr mapped out of the system so the light will not come on as i did when i got the car mapped only extra £30

Thumbs up for Blacksmoke if you don't mind the risk! Not all ECUs are listed so if you have to request one from Andrew then you will need to specify that you wish the EGR to be mapped out.
I have looked at Blacksmoke before but i haven't got the software to upload the file, i have vcds though

VCDS won't do it. Search ebay for mpps. I got this one and it works perfectly. And have a read of http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a4-a4-...hassis/179952-1-9-tdi-130-awx-remap-file.html this thread too.

It is true and can't fault the map but be warned, it will find out a worn clutch/flywheel. Mine lasted 6 weeks but it was 147k old. A mate of mine who put me onto the site has had the same issue too

£787 for clutch, flywheel, bolts, slave cylinder, gearbox oil and labour 2 days ago for my 6 speed. A little cheaper if you have a 5 speed.
It depends on the age. I think very early a4's <2002 have no problems. Mine is a 2002 with the egr blanked also and no light, but I'm assuming the OP's is a bit newer?

I would agree on pick up i have now put the pipe back on and cleared the code for now until i figure out what ia m doing the car is an 03
Gotta be honest and say I didn't notice a bit of difference. However, I'd rather have clean air only in my engine than exhaust gases so I'm keeping it blanked.

Meh, I cycle to work everyday so I do my bit for the environment. Thanks for the lecture though.

You buy restriction plates.
It stops a lot of the gases but let's enough through to keep the sensor happy.
The PD boys uses one cause they get the same errors.

Possibly, but the blanking plates are usually quite thick and almost impossible to fit them on with the pipe too, whereas the restricting plates are much thinner, like the gasket.

Actually, you've got more chance if you just fit 1. I think you'd still struggle, but with 1 blanking plate there's a slim chance.
The restriction plate is fairly cheap too though. A lot of skoda drivers use them.

Just saying - not too sure why you need to interpret that as a "lecture" - I'm as entitled to my opinion (supported by the evidence above) as you are.

Pfft, I've blanked the egr and put a straight pipe in place instead of the particulate filter. Little better performance, happy days.
If you just disconnect the vaccum pipe on top of EGR, this stops it working ie: no exhaust gases entering inlet.
So I was told by Audi master technician not long after buying my car.
I did it and blanked the hose with a bolt and never had any bother, no light on and no build up of soot in EGR or inlet.
So I figured if you do this early enough in the cars life it prevents the problem occuring (I did it at 55k) or clean out manifold and EGR then do it.
My car is an 04 AVF.
I have since fitted EGR blanking plates and removed the flexi pipe. I also removed and cleaned out the inlet manifold and EGR, which were pretty clean, just for peace of mind realy.
Whilst at it I also did the Mr muscle turbo vanes clean, preventitive maintenance I hope.
Car goes realy well, think it does pick up better.
