2.0l block

HI all my dad is having his or should I say wanting his s3 bored out but he has been told that his block isnt suitable for a 2.0l bore as the block in not a
'wet sleeve' engine. Its apy 2000 engine same as mine and this is not something iv seen talked about. Is this fact or fiction?
 
Also looking at an agu head. Are they all same I mean will the agu head from a golf have the same port size as 1 from an a3/s3 cheers
 
For a 2ltr you will need 83mm bore stroker pistons and a TFSI crank that has been adapted with a 20v oil pump sprocket...

AGU heads on a Golf are the same as AGU heads on an A3

What you need is a stroker kit like mine or Staceys on here

Mine is a stroker kit to take the engine out to 2.1 and staceys is a 2.0, Staceys is the better of the two as it has a better rod ratio. what you need is a different crankshaft from a 2.0 engine or like i have a TDI crankshaft. Look up stroker engines

As for heads the AGU has a large port head which is better for big engine/turbo builds, This head also has bigger ports than your S3 head
 
...I assume you are thinking of just boring the block to 2ltr? biggest sensible size available is 83mm (83.5mm is available but the bores walls are too thin at this point for reliability) and this takes the std stoke to 1.9ltr (1870cc)... for 2ltr (2008cc) you will need the TFSI crank...

83mm bore also require a different head gasket...

TFSI crank is the expensive route. You can also use a crack from a mk4 2.0 8v engine. They have the same stroke, only difference between them is
mk4 crank is cast, has the correct oil pump drive gear and weighs 1kg more than the tfsi.
tfsi crank is forged, oil pump drive gear needs to be removed and replaced with correct gear for 1.8 oil pump.

why does he want a 2.0? Is he going to upgrade the rods and go big turbo?
 
Yea it will just be a re-bore to 2.0ltr. but psi tuning have said the engine isnt sutable for this due to it not being a wet liner. im not sure what they mean by this but i assume it would be to do with oil feed to the pistons?? I know the crank will be changed and a stroker kit will be more likely the way the build will go as hes unsure as to what turbo will be fitted at this point. 450 - 500 is the target as he just whats good power after buliding the car up 380 first time round. iv told him about your build tuffty and that the power he wants can be achived without a stroker build and i would imagine keeping it at 1.8 would be even more reliable again than just a strong 2.0ltr?
 
Yes big turbo is the plan but were just running threw all option atm to be able to build a good quick reliable car. like i said he built it the first engine some 9 years ago before alot of the parts used now wernt around so picking stuff out for this build is vast from what he worked with last time
 
Tuffy has/had a 1.8 with big power
badger5 has a 1.9 with huge big power
Andrew has a 2.1 with huge big power

Then there are a lot of others that have big power using the 2.0 route.

The best advice everyone on here will give you is ditch that PSI place and get advice from a place that knows what they talking about.

You can also ask them how the mk5 gti is a 2.0 or the mk4 2.0 8v using the same block.
 
Psi are a "specialist" for vag tuning and built the original engine along with so many others. i understand what you are saying and it seems im shining a bad light on andy who owns it which im not doing because he does good work and its the closest bar awsome where andy learnt his trade from jim in the first place. but on the other hand this seemed abit suspect to me after never seeing this decribed before. but back to the build lol its early stages yet its just a reading and advice stage before jumping into ripping it to bits
 
Maybe the story isn't straight then. Maybe the mix up is they were asked if the engine could be bored to a 2.0 with the 1.8 crank.
You have to stroke it to get 2.0
Maybe you should speak to them again.
 
The question wasnt about the stroker build itself was just about the boreing. it was said a wet liner engine was needed for a stroker build which apparently the apy isnt? This is my confusion can it be done on a dry liner if that is the case?
 
Sounds like PSI have got mixed up or you asked the wrong questions

The block will need to be bored out a little but its the crank that gives it the most cc's and this can be done to a APY or any 1.8t block as they are all the same.
 
All 1.8t 06a blocks are the same :)
n/a 06a blocks are also the same but don't have the turbo coolant return line in the block. It's not drilled and tapped.
so I would say its safe to stroke your engine to a 2.0 using a 2.0 crank and 83mm pistons - it's not cheap! Especially the 2nd time round :(
 
could you not just drop a 2.0 TFSI engine from an S3 in there for less ?

20v stroker built RIGHT will give you a good base for a 500hp car... get it done!

Bore alone, which you have fixated on is limited by cylinder wall thickness and the bore seperation... ie it limits the max overbore you can run..
83mm (from 81mm std) is the usual max overbore, and often 82.5mm is used.. You can contemplate bigger but the seal face for head gasket between the cylinder at that diameter is mighty skinny.

I run 83mm bore std crank, which is ~1900cc
Does'nt stop me making >600bhp from 26psi boost with suitable "other mods" ;)

Forget wet liners etc.. Irrelevant for this requirement/engine

Want 2ltr, Stroker crank and 83mm bore is the answer as others have already said a few times

None of the S3 motors are linered...

hahaha i love this post as this is what i said just do the stroker and go from there. so looks like ill be reading up on cranks now. thanks guys as helpfull as ever
 
i was wondering what all this talk of wet and dry liners was. Aren't they just a solid lump of cast iron?
 
I have an APY block that's been rebuilt and stroked to 2008cc 9.0:1 compression ratio using Mahle Power Pak pistons, DM forged rifle drilled rods, TFSi crank and loads of other goodies. So that's proof it can and has been done. (Im fitting the block to my MK2 golf as we speak)

Its not a question of it cant be done tho dude....

inserting liners etc,..... was the dubious thing stated by the op...

rebore simples
2ltr crank (or larger) simples

liners? hmmmm.. not on a 1.8t block.... when you can do the above as "normal" simpler upgrades.

Some have done liners, diesel block, 95.5mm crank etc... but thats a whole different ball game.
