Remapped my motor last night, using a map from blacksmoke.co.uk

The power it delivers was smooth all the way upto red line, and it just keeps going through the gears.

Awesome map and would recommend one! Cost me 70 all in, only downside would be maybe of you was going stage 2 on yours then obviously a generic map won't suffice

U remapped it yourself from home ?? Did u buy a generic map software and upload onto your ecu ?

Did you use a Mpps cable? If so was it a clone off ebay?

Be careful as my mate does thning and hes had loads of cars come in with home maps and 99% of them have just added more fuel into the mixture which isnt good amd they only had about 15-25bhp gain ive been there when an ibiza came in mapped from 130bhp-143bhp my mate put it on dyno and mapped it with his software to 180bhp as pd130 usually produce 140+ standard

It would be interesting to see a dyno reading of this . How much was the cable?

I bet it was nerve racking while it was writing to the ecu?

Id be crappin it if i drive down the road and was producing to much boost the turbo could just pop

All way to redline in a diesel? It would be dead at 4500-5000rpm. Get it on a dyno you'll know what u get probably black smoke lol you get what you pay for mate. Why you spend so much on a car then spend pennies to maintain/mod it

His reviews say it all. But if you could get the same thing for the same price would you really pay it? No didn't think so.

Ill get it on a rolling road if anybody knows somewhere who will do it for me in the warrington area?

The cable was around 20-25, and yeah heart rate was rising waiting then took it for a spin and just wow tbh, if you speak to the guy who sells them hell answer anything you wanna know. He's a member if the mkiv forum and explained that his maps are developed and tested on an RR by a friend his or something

Fairplay Mike,if your happy with the results then who cares.

I would care if Rail Pressure was increased over stock in this engine, personally.

If this engine is 2.0TDI 140hp standard Rail Pressure is set to 1600bar and many STUPID companies increase this, using it as an easy way to increase power. 1600bar is around 24,000psi! Do you think this is reasonable method of tuning voorhees?

We should consider this work a 'study', and share opinion on the method used. It is good the vehicle is tuned - but the 'way' it has been tuned could help share knowledge with forum members who are interested in the subject.

Another thumbs up for blacksmoke.co.uk from a forum member. Am considering this as well, when I get around to it. Having spoken to blacksmoke, they said I would only gain about 30bhp on my A4 B6 2.5 TQS and the remap would be more geared toward deliver of power across the range, which is what I would be happy with. 210bhp should be more than ample.

Sorry for sounding negative m8 but going by ur past posts u had a rattle at 55mph a few days ago, a new turbo fitted after 2000 miles on the old one yesterday . The last thing I would have done is a remap at this stage. I'd have ran the turbo for a few thousand miles to see if it was performing as it should and no problems elsewhere. How many miles has ur car done btw? And yes I agree if ur happy with it it's all good :)

oh my God have you seen their webpage?

he says to 'upload a screenshot' from MPPS. okay... for the majority - this will work. but even if the hardware and software numbers match the file(s) he has on stock, sometimes there are variables in the software. not so common on VAG, but sometimes there are differences between original files even with the same HW and SW number.

hopefully you sent him the original and he created a mod file from scratch - there are so many 'file pushers' out there. well done to him, he's making money, but the real answers will come from opening the software and reading.

I have to say I think I agree with Robbie you've just spent a load of money on your car and your chucking a 45 quid remap on it? If it was that easy everyone would be doing that.. Each to their own but from what I've read the 140 isn't the strongest of engines for reliability even at stock

James O you understand exactly what I am saying here - but many are ignorant.

Like you told me last week. Whoever has a shiny garage in Essex is an expert.... that kinda thing

Just seen the blacksmoke site the fact they sell/promote sale of clone tools should make you think twice. But if its something cheap. You can buy dvds off ebay with remaps on them with all the bull**** promises of being tested on dyno etc lol

If the o.p. would upload his ori/mod to this blog I will give my best opinion. With references to 'locations' in the software.

This way - everybody on here is able to download some 'demo' software and get some understanding to what is happening - good or not. I can explain in simple terms - but the beer is starting to kick in!

Maybe i'll check posts tomorrow :D

Agreed pal, the reason everybody pays the extra to get it remapped by the pros is a tried and tested map for fuelling and performance. It isn't that expensive to get it mapped surely? I thought the days of self tuning were gone years ago. Surely a map to 170bhp from 140 is the safest map as its the same engine and slightly different map that audi put out :)

2.0TDI 170hp Audi A3 is Siemens PPD ECU

2.0TDI 140hp Audi A3 is Bosch EDC16 ECU

170hp has irritating DPF also. But - these engines are both controlled completely differently! Some are PD (old tech), others common rail

I can't comment on the dpf as I haven't had a 170 but its well within audi's parameters of going from 140 to 170 on the same engine :)

I remapped my 2.5 tdi and went from 155 to 204 BHP with a REAL remap! (dyno printout) drives like a dream with 50 mpg.
I have heard and seen many "generic" nightmares!!
Be warned. might be cheap.....short term!

Robbie you have 2010 wow!

I must be a nerd here. Under your bonnet the ECU should sit somewhere (hopefully), get us a pic of the sticker on the case if you can. Or if you have diagnostic tool, tell me the HW/SW number - i'm sure this uses Bosch EDC17, new tech.

I am a nerd. I must know everything :p

Also - for the record.

Generic isn't always bad. Most companies do 5% here, 10% there, 20% there <-- and it will work on turbo diesel. They are resilient and capable of running this 'ham fisted' type of tuning.

Personally - if I see an example on modern Bosch EDC16 ECU like this. Where the ''tuner'' (or wánker) increases throttle ''drivers wish'' by 7% then I know he has no knowledge of how this software works - and is too stupid to read the binary in actual NM (Newton Metres) in which it is represented. Wow i'm still coherent after 3 beers, this is a first!

Tbf it is his motor... If his happy fair play to him. Anyone would think he has gone round and mapped all your cars for you.

So much negativity around here lately.

Sorry if u feel that way lol. Under my bonnet is an engine :p
yes u must know everything but from my direction in the 90,s when I had a f**d escort rs turbo I went from 130bhp to 150 with an exhaust, new spark plugs and an kandn cone filter with a rolling road set up, well within f**ds parameters on a rolling road. Results were amazing like a different car. So I'm sure it's easier nowadays :)

I'd say more of a risk just to save £100, and the assurance that the remap is "safe".
Not being negative, just realistic.

These days are complicated! Many areas to control the engine - but its all electronic. And its fun! Sort of..

Right - i'm old and fúcked. I'm going to bed nite x

Either way he has done it and is happy. Just seems peeps are trying to burst his bubble.

Well everybody should study and tune their own engines! This way it will be 100% enthusiast tuned and less 'carpark' masturbation. The UK scene is a joke to be honest. Bashing over a manufacturer badge - when there's like a war still going on in Iraq.

You are right. Its just a car - who gives a doo doo? My point was - the 'way' an engine is tuned can definitely have a long term effect. I've sat at BMW main dealer (recently), Peugeot main dealer, Audi, VW etc - and discussed (with demonstration) what most people in this country are doing to their engines.

Good evening

please don't get me wrong, you are right if he's happy, fine.

What about if the car gets sold and goes wrong? I would have a conscience.

Just out of interest, what insurance/warranty to the generic file suppliers give you?
Most established remapping firms offer £2m -£5m indemnity insurance.

Night JB o/

Naw best84 if u post u have to accept good and bad m8, I went and looked to see what he had posted before ;)

to add. i have no idea why tuning companies offer insurance on the software. it isn't theirs to begin with!

it is Bosch's software. or Siemens/Denso/Marelli whatever

They are offering insurance for their mods/changes to the file.

cool!

a bit like frying an egg, and taking responsibility for salmonella.. engine tuning is a practise, but if you trust your knowledge i don't see much reason for this.

i can't see a guarantee when (lets take this 140hp diesel for example) they are increasing map areas that were considered 'safe' by the manufacturer. well - this could start a long-drawn out debate on whether people should even be meddling with creation! but thank you for your answer 'wesmaster' i will consider it

:)
