firewall the setup in the spare wheel well...bracket up the well and dzus fasteners for securing an ali cover

<tuffty/>

Sounds like a good idea but may just leave it as a future project ;)

Will start shopping for break down cover that will still cover you without a spare as AA refused in the past :)

I asked this on vortex some time ago and was told they have seen 700+ bhp. Don't know how true it is but i think thats will be something i will be looking into soon i bet

I may just see how the 044 copes inline for now with AN line to the fuel rail from the oem connectors as am quite set on keeping the spare and to be honest I've run out of money and braided hose is ****** expensive lol

Nylon braided is pretty reasonable and easier to cut.

Think must be around the area of where standard lines will start to become restrictive?

What's nylon braided its not something I've noticed before? I've seen plenty of stainless braided rubber hoses and ones that are ptfe/Teflon lined (which is what I was going to use

Managed to make a start on the car today :)

Started by preparing the storage area and chucked the interior in the loft ;)

Spent quite some time trying to plan routes for pipes and just trying to work out where things will sit and fit

Had a look at the amount of room under the washer bottle and it seems like there's less room on the 8l platform compared to golfs, also due to where the charge pipework runs

Then played with the intercooler inlet and outlets as the inlet hasn't sat well ever since I got it as pointed down ever so slightly and the elbows stuck out more than desired making the bumper really tight and not sit properly

I had to allow some extra clearance for the 70mm outlet and used a mallet to aid shaping the pipe ;)

Hoping to have it out tommorrow and see if a friend will lend a hand with his van to swap the engines from home to work

Nice work dude... wish I had the space at home to do mine :(

I have started planning my bottom end rebuild now and accumulating bits... looking forward to getting yours on the dyno :D

<tuffty/>

oooooooooooh, it's going in soon then>?

Have I missed a bit somewhere? I thought this wasn't going into the car for a while yet?

Awesome news :)

Wastegate's bigger than the turbo isn't it? :)

You need to stick a calendar on that fence ;)

Got to admit its nice to be able to have some although technically only 2 of the 3 spaces i'm stretched across are ours :)

Cant wait to get it on the dyno although i'm pretty nervous as Bill is now doing the lines it now means i cant turn it over at all myself :(

Always looking forward to your updates with it constantly evolving and the oemness of your build

Cheers mate am extremely excited ;)

My friend was going to do all the lines but once priced up and with all the mucking about of getting the engine back and forth to him ive now decided to just go ahead and Bill will do the lines his end :)

We've been given a rough moving date of start-mid june so knew if its not done before then it will get put back and back until god knows when so will be borrowing some money to get it done before hand

Its booked in with Bill for the 3rd of may so have really got to get cracking as its all the custom pipework that will take the time and have got to work out lengths and fittings required once its in

Yeah the wastegates pretty big although majority of its made up of the pneumatic piston, it is quite old tech and comes from the audi quattro/rs2 as well as the turbo being simular

When i get the man cave (garage) i will kit it out with plenty off material in the background to keep certain people amused lol ;)

id just like to say that reading your thread keeps me going.
with so much work on my plate let alone the car im close to losing the will to live. Then this inspires me. I cant wait to see it, and cant wait for inters and run against it :racer:

The other casualty of the day was a ball joint where the nuts were seized and I had possibly over tightened them :(

Am hoping to get the new engine in tommorrow all being well?

theres more people with engines apart than together in this forum

you're not wrong SK :(

Mine lives on a jack at the moment, as there is no box to support it!

We'll get there lads, have faith!

Very excited to hear it's booked in with Bill, gives us all something to get excited about :)

I think cars get to an age where people tend to fiddle about with them a bit more. I used to own a 16 year old Renault 5 Turbo and used to be a member on RTOC. I don't think there was one guy on that forum who hadn't had his engine apart! The 1.4T block used to explode frequently so engine rebuilds were a monthly task lol

Glad it inspires you karlos :)

First time I rebuilt my engine it took ****** ages but now with confidence and some experiance I'm finding it so much easier and quicker

Can't wait for inters its going to be mental and will have a run with you if your up for it?

You've got to get a move on with yours now as it will soon catch up ;)

Yeah that's quite true!

Remember a friend that had a 5 gt turbo which needed its headgasket changed on a monthly basis lol

im already thinking of stage 2 so hopefully second time round il be quicker with things.

Glad it's coming together nicely even with a few slight issues.

To be honest i like hearing other people having issues with there cars as it makes me feel better and that it's not just my car that's fighting against me :D

Am happy to have a run at inters with all you guys, its all in the name of fun....absolutely loved it last year :)

Looking forward to what sort of times will get as got 13.02 last year so would have thought 12's should be a shore thing?

There's always issues with all builds and hurdles to get over some of which only need a hammer and others which make grown men cry lol

Engine ready to be mates to the box

Clearancing was needed for the comp cover which was a slight adjustment with a mallet ;)

Inlet mani vac source and iat sensor are definately going to be in the way off the charge pipe as suspected so the smaller washer bottle will aid this

When my engine comes out for the bottom end rebuild I will be 'detailing' my engine bay and painting the crap outa everything!!!

<tuffty/>

Your "detailing" will end up being cleaner than the day it rolled out the factory!

Lmfao I would have loved to but time is of the essense

If I had another car and not the move coming up I would be going to great lengths with a lot of stuff in the bay ;)

I'm with you on that mate. I got told I should have painted this and that but we were doing a massive amoun of work in only 3 days.

That engine looks soooo sexy though. Love the ceramic coated mani and turbo.

even I painted everything on mine  shouldn't have bothered though. 4k later it's filth.

Looking very very good matey, incredibly excited to see this come together, I think it's one of the ones everyone has been waiting for :)
