Er... I don't want to start any bother, but I was a bit peeved whilst watching an episode of "police traffic camera action you're nicked son" (or whatever it was) the other night, when a copper came on and said "well when you see a car like that (Audi A3) which has a boy racer image, you know it's going to be bother" (that may not be an exact quote)

I know mine is only one away from the weediest version 8p - and I don't drive like a loon, I'm also far from a boy (50). Have I done it again? Back in the day I got told by a copper that they loathed Ford Capris -guess what I drove then (when I could borrow my Mum's).

Please say it ain't so.......

I think its the body style of hatchback that he was talking about, boy racers would not be able to afford the insurance.

Well - in this case, they'd nicked it - but he referred to the A3 by name.

And if I remember rightly, they couldn't keep up with it......

True - they rammed it to try and stop it but didn't.

They'd have caught mine - easy :)

I think the S3 was the episode I saw, whatever it was they had no chance..... ;)

The one I saw was a black one a bit like mine (only faster - not hard).

You can imagine how I felt when I went through my Cosworth phase.

I remember being trailed into work one day by what was clearly an unmarked police car.....every time I pulled out,so did this thing, and I clocked it pretty quickly but it went on for about 20 miles after which they must have been as bored as I was and when they pulled level at some lights I said hello to them.

I mean.....two guys, white shirts, and black ties in a black car...it was either the police or the Mafia.

Image is a funny thing, it has different connotations to different
people.

I went out a few weeks ago quite late in the evening in
my (unbadged) s3 to Tesco express up the road from me for a nice
chilled bottle of wine for my wife. I parked up in one of the bays, went inside
and when I came out there was an old landrover parked next to it with a group
of 3 dreadlocked fox hunt protester types sat in the back and one in the front.
The driver was presumably inside buying some patagonian root vegetable peace
crisps and some houmous. Anyway, I thought no more of it and got in my car and
prepared to reverse out of the bay and go back home. I looked around and just out
of the corner of my eye I saw the rear passenger sitting nearest to me just staring
at me whilst holding aloft her middle finger. She was about 22 and blonde with matted
dready hair with bits of junk sewn into it, you know the look I mean...

So I looked back at her, (in some disbelief tbh as I wasn't sure what I'd done to annoy her)
smiled and started to reverse. I was looking over my shoulder as I reversed and when I
looked forward again I just caught sight of her hurriedly winding her window up.
Then the penny dropped, the dirty bu99er had spat out of her window at my car while my
head was turned. A much younger me would have kicked off big style at that moment and
almost certainly have got out launched a shopping trolley through their windscreen.
But I'm a bit older and wiser now and looking at them I couldn't help but think I had
already won as I was off back to my paid for flatscreen tv, beautiful young wife and warm
lovely comfortable home. So I laughed quietly up my sleeve and headed back.
A little wipe of quick detailer when I got home and my Audi was gleaming again.

Fast forward to last Friday night and my other half was in Bristol City centre having
some after work drinks entertaining one of her clients on the company credit card.
She shot me over a text to go and pick her up about 11pm. On the way to meet
her I pulled up at a set of lights and noticed a young lad in a clean and tidy looking silver
Astra (Not a sporty one) pull up alongside me with his girlfriend alongside him. He seemed
to be trying to attract my attention, but it was quite late and tbh I thought he was after
a drag race. He did the 'wind your window down' action so after a few seconds I dropped
the passenger window. He leant out and gave me a very approving nod and said 'nice car
mate, I love A3s' I replied 'Thanks mate but it's an S3.' 'IS IT?' he called back loudly, I nodded
'WOW!' he said,' I didn't realise, look after it mate!!' Then he gave me a big thumbs up as the lights
changed and off we went. Not the encounter I was expecting at all.

On my other forum I use regularly a few of the Skoda lot have gone a bit funny on me
since I changed from my old vRS. One accused me the other day in a thread about
Maggie Thatcher that I didn't drive a Skoda due to my leanings toward the right.

I have just looked at your profile and I note you do not have a Skoda is the badge is
down market for a right wing person.

What he doesn't know is that I had two of them prior to my Audi :D
And I've always voted Conservative.

I'm 20 with a S3.

I had a Corsa VXR at 18-20 and only twice I got pulled for no reason.
Well first time was because I had my numberplates stolen a couple days before, I reported it and had the crime reference number etc and the day I got pulled my plates were used on a Golf in Nottingham for a drive away at a petrol station. He was just doing a general tug regardless of my age as the plate flashed up as stolen.
We had a little chat about my age, car, insurance blah blah. He was then quite impressed with my car and began to express his view on not drawing attention to myself as I'm young in a car which draws in the wrong crowds.

The second time I got pulled was as me and my elder brother were heading off to Nandos (hmmmm Nandos....), we passed a local car meet spot and ~300yards down the road got tugged by the rozzers. He went through my documents, tried to tell me my exhaust was illegal when it was the standard exhaust then sent me on my way.

Now 20 with my S3 I do expect the police attention to continue but to be honest, it doesn't bother me. I rarely speed (petrols expensive when you don't steal it), and general am a good driver (don't ask the misses though... Lol).

Just reminded me - I had a Scooby Imprezza - was busting for a wee on the way home from GFs once (too much coffee not beer etc) - found a quiet layby in the middle of nowhere and went behind some bushes for a slash. A car pulls up - I finish off and head back and its the rozzers - they were as nice as pie. In true "me" form my scooby was the slow none-turbo one - seems many people don't know such a thing exists.

I think the S3 was the episode I saw, whatever it was they had no chance..... ;)

Was a 2.0TSFI not an S3, black one that got rammed. They couldn't keep up and I think he said "The A3 is a fast car ... If we had one, we would be able to keep up. But we can't" or somethin.

I saw this and it was infact a 3.2 V6 it was only 54 plate and that engine wasn't available in a 3 door a3 back then only the sportback which was the very 1st car to get the 2.0 TFSI engine but its far from a boy racers car.

Here in London, a certain age/type/appearance of A3 is popular with the "bad boys". Invariably it's a dark colour, low-spec and small-ish engine with black tints, 3-dr. The other day I spotted one of these parked alongside mmy car in a private car park, occupants eyeballing mine. You also see a lot of brand new A3s, hire cars, being driven by similar types.

Long story short my sisters a copper and called in a dog barking next door (which never normally barks through the night) I came home and as I turned into my road a police car went past in the opposite direction. She later found out that my reg had a tag on it as a potential burglar incase they'd found the house had been broken into! Got tints on brilliant black, classic drug dealers car apparently!

Another time I was on my way back from London around 2am and got pulled by an undercover car. Clocked him in a layby (thought it was weird a blacked out vauxhall sitting in a layby at 2am. 2 minutes down the road I see him rapidly appear in my rear mirror so I slow down and let him pull alongside, I look in and am convinced it's just someone up for a race (plain clothes copper), so I carry on as usual (I may have taken the shortest/racing line through the roundabout :racer:) to which I see blues in my mirror and "Do you always drive like that?" DOH! Anyway he was wondering what I was doing 5 miles from where the car was registered at 2am = this car definitely attracts attention, as well as there being a 23 year old at the wheel! :arco:

Oh and the dog barking... turns out it doesn't like hedgehogs in the garden, my sister definitely got some laughs the next day at the station!
