Anyone know how much Audi charges for a complete replacement key, fob and coding?
I tried swoping my old key fob gubbin's into a new case and well I've made a complete hash of it and now can't start the car and i dont have a spare B*****KS!

did you swap over the chip ?
does it start and cut out after a few seconds ?

plus theres mobil locksmiths arount that can come to you provide a key fob and code
last one i had done this way was £124 plus

Tried swopping the little glass chip over but broke it (ham fisted idiot). Yep just starts for a second then cuts out.

Tried finding a locksmith local but can't find one to touch it (Dundee).

Cost me about £65 in total and that was upgrading my old keyfob (which I also made a hash of refurbing) to a new banana b7 style one, new chip casing, blank blade which cost 11pounds to get cut, find key_service on ebay he has helped me loads with this key and my leon cupra one too, I got a blank transponder aswell, which if you know anyone with VAG-Tacho they should be able to code it for you

Yeah, there are definitely cheaper ways to do it, but they're a bit of a pain especially when you now have no working key.

Do you know the cars skc by chance? If you go your own route you'll need the skc. Virgin transponder, vcds, key blade (old one will work fine)

If I was in your situation I'd personally get audi to just do it. Getting a transponder isn't quick, it'll be a few days. And since you can't drive the car it's difficult to take it somewhere to get the skc. So you'd have to rely on them coming to you.

I guess audi could do it code the immobiliser part without being at the car, but coding it to unlock the cars i don't think they could do without being at the car.

You've got yourself into a sticky mess here yet mate. :( I know this doesn't help you now, but for anyone else...don't attempt a key case upgrade if you only have 1 key. ;)

Hope you can get it sorted soon mate.

Managed to get in touch with a auto lock smith, he's going to have a look at it tomorrow for me. He says to supply and recode a new key £150. Fingers crossed he can do it, if not I'll have to tow it to Audi and hand over lots of money.
Once I have one key working I'll be getting a spare key done as soon as funds allow, been meaning to do it since buying the car.

I only had the one key when I bought mine, but got it sorted soon as possible as I didn't trust the wife not losing it :)

Hopefully he can sort it for you, let us know how you get on. If you can, try get the skc code from him and then you'll have it for next time. It'll make it easier and cheaper if you should lose it again.

Well got an auto lock smith out to the car this morning. He fitted a new transponder to the key fob and managed to get the immobiliser PIN number but his diagnostic software wouldn't communicate with the car and the fob is transmitting a signal but won't lock or unlock the car.
He's coming back on Monday when he can speak to his programmer. Fingers crossed he can sort it.

You know anybody with vcds? Does your car normally communicate fine? If you now know the pin you can code the chip to the immobiliser with vcds

Don't know anyone with vcds unfortunately.
When I was having the car mapped the guy had a problem communicating with it but managed it in the end.

Well the locksmith got back to me this morning and he said he wasn't going to be able to recode the key.
I've now had the car picked up and dropped off at Dundee Audi and I just told them to supply and code to complete new key fobs and blades. Didn't ask for the price but I'm expecting about £300.
So this month is getting expensive 2 x new wings £290, Paint £500, windscreen £70, recovery to Audi £50, new gearknob £70 and now £300 on 2 new keys :(

I dropped my key a while ago and it wont now lock or open the car remotley do you think audi would replace it with a B7 key instead of the ugly B6 key if I asked....paying for it of cause?

Its just a good job I have a spare for the minute ;-)

I have two keys one is the remote and the other just a key with red strip at the side and a circular centre hub. Does that second key have the chip in it too and can that chip be used to replace a faulty one in the remote?

If you go into search and put in "Key Fob" there are a couple of lads who have done the B7 conversion. Dan TheMan Welburn is one and mjmallia is the other. Don't think they went through Audi tho.

It's currently with Audi in Dundee, they have ordered me two complete new keys/fobs.
Audi quoted upto 7-10 days to get the parts in but fingers crossed they'll be able to sort it quicker than that.

Wow, i'd have thought it was a day job, maybe 2 max. Hope you can get it sorted faster like you say.

Am sure its only £160 supply and code from the Audi dealer , like your self i got a genuine key from a 3rd party but he couldnt code it , Glasgow Audi coded the key for only £55 (inc a wash & vallet) was done in a hour no hastle

That sounds about right, quoted £35 for the key blade, £45 for the fob and £45 to code (all plus the dreaded) which is £150 per key inclusive of vat and then times by 2 as I've ordered 2 complete keys.

I am now £350 lighter but..........................I HAVE MY CAR BACK! :D with 2 brand new keys and washed and hoovered.
So in answer to my own question "how much do replacement keys cost" the answer is £175 per key inc coding and vat.

wish i was on sooner there a guy in stirling i use 95 a key
