:wtf:

What a pig of a job!! ended up taking of the subframe to get room to move spanners etc as you convince yourself you can do it and reach, but I find sometimes spending a little more time taking bits off is easier in the long run.

well hopefully I will have it completely off tonight and the new turbo back on as I spent 2 1/2 hours on it yesterday and it is still connected to the engine haha.

wish me luck!

1st time doing 1 mate and I couldn't find any guides best to do it. I got 1 down pipe bolt out through the wheel arch, the other 2 from the top with a little spanner cracked them with a bar and a hammer then you can undo them then. nothing on my car seems like its ever been apart so its all really tight haha. Got most of it off, I think I only have the 3 turbo to manifold bolts left to undo then its off. cant wait to fit the shiny turbo, then its cambelt time Friday :)

Turbo...

what you replacing it with.

Take plenty pics please, I gotta do this soon!

My original k04 had a bent fin, the turbo itself once if pulled it off tonight has minimal play. I have a rebuilt (exchange) which I managed to get bolted back up tonight before I left it. To say its a pig of a job is an understatement. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1365627795696874

Oh and this bolt decided to round off. Tried hammers, heat, air chisels, finally got a little air grinder cut it right back, got a socket on it to break it off when it decided to come undone haha

Hate to break it to you but that exchange unit is a Chinese copy! Where did you buy it?

Well I checked the cold side when I brought it and it has kkk stamped on it, but the hot side until earlier today I realised it has nothing wrote on it. It came from midland turbo who my uncle has had loads of turbos from and has never had an issue, so he ordered it for me. I did explain I didn't want a copy. I've heard they use some of there own parts but I'm not sure..

Issue is with the waste gate bush coming loose and waste gate port being too small.. I hope the at least balanced it up for you and didn't just sell you a £200 copy turbo! I'd be complaining especially if you wanted a genuine turbo.

Providing they've done work to it, rebuilt it, fixed the bush and ported the waste gate you'll be fine.. If they ain't.... Opps

Sorry fella just because it has kkk stamped on the cold side doesn't mean its real.. Though the cold side isn't an issue as all the ones I've seen are pretty good if not identical to the original cold sides. Only way to tell is by the tag on the cold side housing,

ive also noticed you have one of the ones with the actuator arm which is too short...

any warranty? I'd want assurances that its been been stripped , balanced and rebuilt with new known quality bearings and seals before you even start the engine, otherwise the chances are it'll go poop before you know it..

hope you dont get Boost Creep is all I will say.. Given its a Midland turbo supplied unit

I've been assured that its not a Chinese copy, and that midland turbo use original and some non original parts, there non original parts coming from a reputable company based in the uk. My uncle has used them for years and has never had an issue..

Well good luck anyway s3Clarke. Hope it goes smooth for ya :icon_thumright:

Assured or not... Evidence to the contrary is on this very forum, which if search ever works will be shown if you search midland turbo

Hope yours is ok.

Not all have been for the reasons already posted. Inspection confirms the Actual

finished the turbo Friday night, warmed it up Saturday and took it for a steady run, cooled it down correctly etc. Car drives fine, boost is spooling up as it used to in low revs. Went on a 100mile drive yesterday, gave it full chat in 3rd gear, all seems good.

sorry I didn't but once id got the oil feed and water feed on, I bolted it up loosely to the manifold, then bolted the downpipe on. Theres a bracket underneath the turbo so that was next, then the oil return/water pipe.
I Then offered the subframe back up (to make things abit easier I removed the subframe, I guess if you struggled you could do it with it on, but it doesn't take 20minutes to take off once in the air so why struggle) changed the oil filter then worked from the top I think for the rest of it, bolted it up tight to the mani, fitted the charge pipe, TIP, Dv etc, filled it back up with water and oil then spied underneath for leaks.
all was good so I put the engine trays back up let it warm up and test drove it a mile or so down the road, brought it back again checking for leaks. Once you've figured how your going to get it off, putting it back on is easy, its just time consuming and fiddly!

We marked it up when we took it off and it drives fine now fitted again. It's booked in for a hunter at my pals garage once I've replaced the wishbone bushes and cv boots.
