in two minds to sell my a3 140 tdi as I don't do loads of miles now but me and the gf still go out of the town where we live on days out a lot and a few weends away.

my a3 has had loads done to it already to bring it from a Quattro sport to a s3 replica before I purchased it and since I have had it, its been treated very well and had plenty of maintenance done i.e cambelt, water pump and so on. Now it could do with some new shocks and few other parts need replacing also was looking at a darkside develpoments buget turbo kit the gtb1756v turbo also looks like new injectors needed.

thing is I do love it and like diesels but I have never owed or really driven a petrol car apart from gf clio so am I missing out and should I get an s3?

that is the question keep the 140 tdi and add few more bits so she is perfect but no where near s3 power or just get rid and go for an s3

It all depends on what you want out of a car, if you want economy with good mpg, then this ticks boxes & some more work on the car will make you smile more.

If you don't care about mpg then S3.

i do like seeing the mpg and hoping if I get the new injectors and other bits then the mpg would increase and maybe the the smile on my face with more power.

might just see if I can go test drive an s3 see if I am missing out.

you did all the work on the car I have nigel

S3 is in a different league performance wise. My mate Darren has just bought one and it was quick standard. I mapped it and its just an animal lol

trouble is he has a very heavy right foot and is getting about 22mpg lol

i almost made a similar choice when I bought my A3. I was looking at changing my Golf TDI for an ED30 but after a trip to North Wales realised I couldnt live without the economy so bought my A3

followed you build log on your golf rhyso when I had my gt tdi 150.

at the min am only getting 28-33 if I drive like a granny then I get a bit more but hoping like I said if I got the new injectors and bits it would increase. I am starting to dislike the sound of my diesel though

whats an s3 like mpg wise on a motorway?

think am gona have to try to have a go in one

I've had diesels and now have a 376 stage 2+ s3. All I can say is mpg is shocking but grin factor is superb :arco:

thought your username looked familiar!

We picked it up from Stoke last week and gave it a good workout over 150 miles and it averaged 27mpg. That was before it was mapped. Since then Darren has been 'enjoying' the power shall we say lol

MPG on your 140 sounds shocking mind! My mapped 170 does better than that around town....

whats you mpg like rhyso?

yeah I have changed and tried everything to get better mpg that's why next step is injectors
have had 43 on motorway doing 65-70mph golf used to get me easy 56mpg

I want power I think am having a mid life crisis as I turn 30 soon and I have never been in a car that's powerfull

Anything above 40mpg no matter how I drive. Overall i tend to get high 40's over the course of a tank :). Tends to hover around 47-49mpg. Back on 18's now so its dropped a little and the weather is still ****** cold!!

140's should be better than that :/. All the ones ive encountered get high 40's, low 50's.

yeah that's why am also thinking s3 as if its like this on my diesel I might as well have fun in s3 with low mpg. don't know what to do lol

If I didn't do the mileage I'd have an S3 or equivalent parked outside

sad fact is I do over 15,000 miles a year and have 4 month old daughter so need the economy and the extra boot space lol

gona have to have a serious think. whats s3 go for roughly ones on auto trader seem price for the milage

Well change up for the uprated turbo etc wont help mpg lol, but I think you'd like it.

Yeah it is a nice car, didn't have any issues with it at all tbh & that's being completely honest, didn't shudder or anything, as with all manuals think clutch would of needed changing sometime in future, but thats wear & tear & certainly had loads of life in when I last drove it.

28-33mog isn't good at all, should see better than that.

anyone maybe list the top 5 faults or main things that go wrong or to look out for on buying an s3 8p?

Carnt believe you remember the car Nigel with all the ones you work on

Its stored in a non erasable area of my memory lol.
