2013 Audi S3

So did you actually get to see the estoril blue first hand mate ?

Yes - the one in those pictures above. In your pictures the red does look great (better?) though some of those are very stylised outdoor ones whereas the blue are just snapshots. Next to each other (indoors) I preferred the blue. That said, I'm not really a red car person and even prefer ferraris in dark blues and greys!

Cheers mate - so hard trying to pick car colours ... based on photo's !
Both do look great.
Usually I would always opt (default) for blue if available and the estoril does look superb, so it should be a no-brainer for me.
But that misano does look incredible on the S3.
I am conscious though that the estoril shots are just snap shots though and taken in what looks pretty low light conditions.
The Blue is a really nice dark, but vibrant looking blue, which I know I could live with for years.
The red looks a bit more daring / look at me, which is fine in some respects, but makes me think about the long term in other ways.

As good as Misano red is, its definitely Estoril blue for me :)

PS: My edition of autoexpress dropped on doormat this morning. In a small box on pg 7 - it says that they have driven the new S3 and an article is on their website (www.autoexpress.co.uk) but I cant find the website feature yet! Perhaps its yet to be posted later today/tonight?

Nice one cheers ... be good to read some 'driven' reviews of the S3 !

Still waiting for Audi to post prices and specs as hoped this week.

Looks like we are going to have 5 options for seat materials, all increasing in cost no doubt.

1st (no cost option) Side bolsters in leather with centre sections in cloth

Then the cost options:

1) Leather side bolster and centre sections in Perforated alcantara
2) Leather side bolster and cantre sections in leather
3) As above but option of exclusive colouring sections of leather
4) Super sports seats with integrated head rests with leather and diamond quilting

This new S3 has a HUGE amount of optional extras.

Have you found some new info Snake? I thought Alcantra was free option??

Here is a quote form the Audi news item from February.

"The sports seats with pull-out seat cushions are also a new development. The seat coverings are a mix of Velvet leather and Fine Nappa leather in UK specification S3 Sportback models, with Alcantara / Leather a no cost option. Audi also offers optional S sport seats with integrated head restraints and diamond quilting."

Ahhh you are probably right mate - cloth centres or alcantara may be inclusive with just full leather (& variants of) costing extra.

Yeah I stumbled across this rather lengthy article and made some assumptions based on the notes re seats.

Audizine: News: The new Audi S3

Hopefully ALL will become clear ... tomorrow ???

A good detailed article that one, and one I hadnt seen. I guess until we see it in black and white somewhere we cannot be sure of anything!

I was at my local dealer again today, I drove a 3 yr old used S3 :racer: to give me as close an idea as I can get (at present) to what a new S3 will be like. I have to say even with only 265 PS !! I was very impressed indeed by the power and drive even on that older and heavier model. The interior felt absolutely ancient but the drive was simply to give me a better reference point. Its been a long time since I drove something as quick as that. I again asked the salesman about when will the details be announced and he was almost as frustrated as I was that there is still nothing released. He thinks there should be something released anytime now!

Further to the note above about the Autoexpress web article - driving the new S3 - I sent an e-mail to the road test editor to ask where the article was!

He replied to say they dont actually drive the S3 until next tuesday, so the article should go online middle of next week!

All good things come to those who wait! :)

Look forward to the auto express article then - & nice one for finding that out from them

The S3 you drove will have the same engine as in my current tts and yeah plenty of power and good delivery.

I think mine is 0 to 60 in 5.6 secs (manual) and the new S3 is 5.4 secs (manual) so a slight increase.
Think the new engine is supposed to be more refined though - and more noise from engine / exhaust !

Yes it was really good.

It bodes well then for new S3. More refined and slightly quicker, better noise, 35PS more, a lighter better chassis, excellent new interior. Should be some car !!

Hi all. I am new to the forum and am looking at ordering a new S3 sportback. will the order date ie April sometime be the same for the S3 Sport back as the 3 door S3 ?

Do we have an official release date? Im defiantly going to test drive one! I wonder if the brake discs are any lighter/different

No official release date yet, other than on sale from April, my dealer tells me the pricing and specs should be released anytime now.

As I understand it once this is info is released orders can then be placed for both the 3 door and 5 door S3.

Well still nothing on the Audi site re price but 'something' is happening.
Yesterday there were new pictures added for each of the A3 models, now they have all changed again ?
So no news, other than, the A3 element of the Audi site is currently being fettled with in some way.

Yeah, they are defo up to something.
Just noticed the mpg economy too and compared it to my TTS.
So power is up to 300 ps (from 265) and economy moves from combined 35.8 (TTS) to 40.4 (new S3) - for manual.
That is pretty impressive isn't it.

It went up earlier this week.

Wonder what the hold up is releasing the prices etc ?

Well spotted Snake, I also noticed the images next to the A3 models had changed again this morning and are mostly incorrect, earlier this week they had changed also for the A3 saloon but had the images had been assigned to the wrong headings! Yes something must be afoot behind the scenes! Lets hope today is the day.

Inbetween checking for any S3 spec updates - while wasting time on the audi website I just watched the virtual tour of the Ingolstadt factory - section 12 - Logistics - has some exciting footage of S3 gear knobs !!

I think perhaps I should turn off my macbook now! :)

Edit: Just before switching off and doing something more constructive I just found this S3 video on the S3 section of Uk audi site. Its the vid with the bloke with string back driving gloves on, I seen it on youtube before but dont know how long its been on the S3 page? It may have been there a while or has it just been added?

Meet the model < New S3 < A3 < Models < Audi UK

Ha Ha ... oh yeah I noticed that ... who on earth are they trying to target / suggest will buy this car featuring a Guy wearing string driving gloves :sign_omg:

As for when the prices are gonna be listed, I would not mind if they even just said WHEN they will be listed, rather than no one knowing at the moment (including the Dealers).

What are they waiting for ????

The seats are so much nicer than the 8P seats.... And the steering wheel. I wonder how much they will cost to buy from Audi. Lots!

The level of quality for this latest A3 / S3 really is impressive.
The specification and options list are of a standard that would usually be reserved for only the high end cars eg A8/R8.
Brings a whole new level of refinement to these cars.

I have NEVER been so tempted by so many options on a car.
I have always vowed to keep options to an absolute minimum as you never get them back as residual come part-ex time.
However ...
Such is the options list on the new S3 that I feel I am gonna have to relax this rule on this occasion as there are so many things I feel I really want and don't want to be missing them once I have the car.

Damn you Audi

Tempted to order some appropriate driving gloves !

These look ok - String Back Driving Gloves :detective2: lol !!

As for options yes I know what you mean - I was hoping that the standard spec will be much better than anticipated thus helping me keep my options bill down!

Is it just me who thinks that the new S3 looks a bit... well, not as good as it could have been. Looks like a big A1..? I prefer the 8P which is good news for me

On the contrary, after having three 8P models I couldn't bear another, hence why I jumped ship for a few years. It was great for the first few years, but then things moved on. I think the 8V is refreshing and new, and quality is definitely improved. I'm probably going to run this one for a couple of years and then swap for an S3 or RS3 (depending on timing). If they've made similar improvements to ride quality in the S/RS I'll be a happy man. I found my last S3 far too hard compared to the Golf GTi, hence only keeping it for 18 months.

same for me I don't want too many driving assistants I'm happy with speed limit warning and cruise control personally just waiting for them to update the audi site with prices and to be able to configure one. I'd like to know how an S3 will look in sepang blue

I think I might have to start saving for the 2015 RS3 if it is over 400bhp like they say. I seem to have been converted from BMW to Audi. Will have to see what there is around at the time

i think it's safe to say the S3 would look AMAZING in Sepang blue !

i saw an rs6 recently in sepang in an Audi showroom and it was a stunning colour.

only problem is it would cost £2k to achieve this look ... ouch :)

thing is snake if youre buying a car that will be roughly 40k with options whats another 2k for paint

Wow a white one in Aberdeen and looking at the posters location the estoril blue one is in Scotland too!
Surely there must be others elsewhere too?

Yeah ..... 2 in Scotland ! ?????

wonder if the estoril car will visit other Dealers ?

depends on your view I guess.
tbh I never usually get many extras as you never see any of that cash when you eventually trade in, and lose enough as it is with cars !
As mentioned previous, the s3 has an extremely extensive array of options and I trying to rationalise to some degree.

i would struggle to spend £2k on paint personally but to those who do I respect that also as it does mean you get the absolute best possible colour for you, which is cool ... and sepang blue is the coolest of the cool for sure !

LED lights are £1200 option on an A6 so assuming they will be around this price mark for the S3.

I'm not sure whether this was covered elsewhere (I've a feeling it might have been, but I cant find it right now), but having a look at the German pricelist, the LED lights are a €770 option in Germany, so based on that I suspect a £700-750 option here

I'm loving the look of the S3 Saloon as both hatchbacks don't do anything for me at all. The 8P is so much nicer to look at.

I just hope Audi sort out the poor quality of the kit they fit to these cars namely steering racks, duff suspension components and electrics.

I wouldn't mind spending 40k on a well spec'd car if it was actually worth it and built to a standard befitting of the marque.
