Hi,
I went to Edinburgh Audi in the middle of March to look at the A3 SB, i wanted one so they had some on order and i picked a 1.4 S-Line in phantom black, which comes this week.
My question is that, should i expect the sat-nav as they would have to have ordered the car during the period that sat-nav was offered free, to expect delivery this week?
No mention was made of sat-nav during my negotiations on the deal, as i didn't know it was free on cars ordered before the end of Feb
thanks for looking

I would have expected them to add the free nav to the order at the time as it was an Audi offer (providing they ordered within the offer period) - no cost to the dealership. They'd have been mad not to.

Just ring up and ask.

Thats what i was thinking. If also understand it, if they did add it, they cant take it out before hand-over as its programmed to the individual car?
I'm going into the garage today, to hand over paperwork, I'll casually ask when they ordered it and if it was pre end-Feb i'll say "I take it we get the free Sat-nav then?" I might get a wee bonus thanks to the info on this forum.;)

Yep, although it's free they still have to add it to the options list. As said above, they'd have been mad not to, but definitely worth asking before signing anything.

**edited ** I had indeed misread original poster so would agree you'd hope that Edin Audi had ticked the option list as it was an Audi offer so why wouldn't the delaership ensure it was supplied with the car on delivery. Would surely be an incentive for a prospective purchaser......

Might be misreading the original poster (apologies if I have) but from my understanding unless you ordered a new A3 SB before 28 February you wouldn't have qualified for the SD Satnav for free.......so if you hadn't ordered until sometime in March I doubt you'd have been told about it by the dealeras the Audi offer had passed

You may be correct. I just thought that as the dealer ordered stock for them to sell, they must have ordered before the end of March and presumably ticked the free sat-nav when they ordered. I am buying one they ordered, hence no chance of build upgrades etc (I could have ordered one but didnt want the wait time)

Also is the SD sat-nav fitted at build or part of the dealers pre-delivery checks?

U wanna hope they did tick the free sat nav offer otherwise u don't get the screen u can make it out on the car configurator if u don't add sat nav
they must have added it surely

Really ?? That can't be right, I thought the pop up screen was all part of the the whole new A3?

If it's a dealer stock car, then almost certainly it'll have been ordered with the free nav. If they've sourced Audi stock to find you one, then there could be a chance it'll not be included, depending on how Audi UK administer the offer (for example, if the car is only allocated to the dealership after the offer end Audi UK may have not included the offer.)

I'd politely tell the dealer that I'd assumed it was part of the deal and you'll be having second thoughts if it's not.

The sat nav is activated at PDI stage.

The pop up screen is definately standard on all A3's regardless of trim level and sat nav.

here are 3 different interior pic from the build program
1st one standard
2nd sd based sat nav
3rd technology pack

I'm pretty sure the first doesn't apply to UK built cars. If you look at the brochure on the Audi website, all models come with 5.8" colour screen.

In fact, the steering wheel above is completely incorrect for an S-Line, and of course it's left hand drive so originally aimed at the European market. I tend to notice loads of errors on the online configurators and just use them as a basic guide.

I hope this is incorrect. I sat in a a3 (not SB) and the dealer said that they are the same car from drivers seat forward and this had a pop up display!! I have an appointment at 3pm so will post how it goes.

I understood that all uk A3 models had the popup screens and onscreen MMI that first pic is new to me.......

I do recall the german config had an option for a radio unit or something that sat atop the dashboard but have not seen or heard of anyone in the uk referring to that spec.

Maybe other parts of europe or elsewhere get that a very basic spec level?!?

Is this the UK configurator?

I've just been on and specced the most basic 1.4SE without any options and it shows the 5.8" screen.

Doesn't matter which model you choose of the A3, here in the UK ALL models comes with the 5.8" pop up screen as a minimum. That top radio one isn't brought into the UK (good job as well as it looks like its just plonked up on the dash )

For reference the wording in the brochure was:

*Satellite Navigation System - SD card based is available free of charge only on new A3 Sportback pre-orders until 28th February 2013.

I suspect that Edinburgh Audi will argue that "pre-orders" refers to customer orders placed with Audi dealers and not stock orders that Audi dealers may have placed.

However, it is worth a try. If they take the above approach, it might be worth seeing if they will do it at cost at the time of doing the PDI, which should be considerably less than the £495 price.

Hi All,
Well i went along yesterday to sign paperwork and have a test drive.
It was a 1.4TFSI SPORT with no SatNav and it had the popup screen, so i take it all UK spec cars have this.
I initially ordered on 15th March, so when I spoke to the sales guy yesterday
I asked "when was it was ordered"
he said "15th March"
I said "yes but when did you place the order for it?"
He checked the paperwork and showed me the initial order of 14th Feb
I said "So i take it you ticked the box for free sat-nav?"
But from looking at the oder form. in the options box it was blank, so he doubts they did.
He agreed it would have been stupid to not take it when it was free, but couldn't give a reason why.

So looks like no free sat-nav for me. :3sadwalk:

Nothing lost really, the maps will be outdated better with something transportable. We never purchased for the A3 but did with the Q5 that was a costly mistake as maps out of date.

Free Sat Nav may have been a 'customer only' offer, i.e. a dealer ordering a car for stock would have ha to pay for it, hence not ticking the box. A bit like free servicing and similar offers when they're knocking about.
