I'm heading through to Edinburgh Audi to pick up my 1.4 TFSI S-line in a few hours and I'm trawling the forums trying to pull together the teething issues that everyone's discovered since the 8V was released, and trying to figure out which ones have been resolved by system updates that will have been dealt with by now in PDIs, and which ones are still outstanding and will need a trip back to the dealer in a few weeks when a fix is found.

I thought it would be nice for other folk like me to have a one-stop shop where the outcomes could be posted since a few of the threads are way back down the list now. Some of the things I can think of off the top of my head are BST auto-updates, the red cable / blue cable saga for album artwork, the speaker hiss etc... If you find anything, post away!

I think there was quite a large MMI and Multimedia software update that a few members commented on recently (think Vertigo was one). From what I recall it was a big software update that took quite a few hours to load, so probably best to ask (or make sure if you can), that the software on the car is the latest one.

Don't know if this is possible, but if you have gone for Navigation, try and find out what version of the map disc (or SD Card) you are getting.

Had mine a week now and no problems so far - my dealership does all its group's PDIs at a dedicated off site prep centre and previous cars have been very well prepared.

Software version is MSTD_EU_AU_P2440
Bluetooth is 3775

Some of the things you mention depend on options - BST for example, I just did it from the menu (I don't have Nav)
The thing that is annoying me most is the sticker on the passenger sunvisor about child seats - haven't found a way to remove it yet.

I have tried to get the child seat/airbag warning notice off the passenger sun visor. There is a notice on both sides of it!

They appear to be printed on the sun visor rather than a sticker. I tried to heat them with a hair dryer but neither would budge!

I would be grateful for ideas to get them off, or at least the one on the side when the sun visor is up, without damaging the sun visor.

Can't actually believe that Audi are now fitting this to their cars. My partner's Guilietta has this also and it doesn't half annoy us that it cannot be removed. That and the very long lead time (which has moved again), are pushing me more and more toward a TT...

A personal gripe this one...

Check if they've put a damned dealer sticker at the top of the rear screen. Annoys the hell out me when they do this - I'm not your free advertising hoarding!

Once even had a car without one which went in for a service and the dealer put one on - I hit the roof!

i can better that in a way, my car was bought from Edinburgh BMW lets say and I serviced it at derby BMW when I got it and they took the old Edinburgh one out and put their bigger one in the back window above the brake light......

One of my first jobs was to remove the lease company rear window sticker and tax disc holder!

Stuck with the lease company name on the number plates though!

Ok, great - keeping it on-topic though, I was thinking this would make a good thread for things people should know about when they go to pick up their new deliveries, and I'm not sure the sticker will be one of those things you wished you'd asked while you were on the showroom.

I can confirm after picking mine up today that they're still being shipped with the blue-collar MMI cable, so I asked straight off to get a red one which I'm promised will be posted out after it arrives on Friday.

Can't think of anything specific to check other than all your options are present and to check very very carefully for any minor damage.

As for the MMI cable, I think the consensus is that the red one is supplied with the Tech Pack, otherwise you get the blue one as standard. Whether you're technically entitled to the red one without having the Tech Pack I don't know but I suspect the dealers are totally confused and you'll be able to blag a red one just by asking nicely :)

Just to add, I didn't get the red cable with my tech pack. Dealer is posting it to me when they get some stock. I just had the blue one in the car.

Red lead was in the car and I don't have Tech Pack. I understand that they're not shipped with them, the dealers put them in.

Sorry for the stupid question - what's the difference between the red and blue MMI cables?

Red is for later generation iPods / iPhone and allows the MMI to pull through additional data (such as artwork). The blue cable is for the older generation iPods. Neither cable works with the iPhone 5 as Audi are still 'working on it'....

never thought about my iPhone 5 not working! ****** apple!

I tried my blue cable with the iPhone 5 and the Apple 30 pin to lightning adapter and it played fine. Haven't checked album art or any other features on the iPhone yet though as I'm using the SD card.

That's the very first thing I do too. It actually niggles away at my OCD all the way home!

I always make a point of asking the salesperson straight out if the car has had an reconditioning or remedial work before handover. You'd be amazed how many brand new models are damaged and then repaired at port or at dealership. A number of years back, a VAG paint specialist told me it could be as high as 1 in 7 cars.

You can generally tell when the salesperson gets really edgy and cagey. One car I bought had the whole roof panel re-sprayed at the dealership due to a paint defect and they'd never have told me about it if I hadn't noticed a few tell tale signs. It's amazing how well they disguise these things and in a handover 'hour' it's almost impossible to tell.

It's worth taking quarter of an hour by yourself before seeing the salesperson in the handover bay checking all the panels, running your hands over them for roughness and checking edges for any overspray. In all probability, your car is fine.... but it could be the 7th one along!

It may be worth selar editing the first post periodically with a definitive checklist - that'd save people reading through every post to the bottom.

On a side note - does anyone know when the "Eyes Free" Siri integration is supposed to happen?

Will do, hiitchy. Didn't want to automatically start coming over all commanding, but I agree, it's a good idea.

*Edit*: seems that without any mod power I'm only able to edit a post within a certain window after creating it. Anyone know any ways around that?

Summary so far, anyway:

BST auto-adjustment: At least one user has had problems; the option to automatically update has disappeared from his system. Awaiting a resolution (Vertigo1 - original thread).

Low hum coming coming from speakers
: Not sure if this was ever just a B&O issue, but it has been fixed with a software update. All PDIs will include any such fixes, but cars shipped before the start of March might need to go back in if they haven't already been recalled.

MMI lead: Cars usually come shipped with blue collar lead (for older generation iOS devices - doesn't transfer artwork) but will generally be swapped for a red collar lead if you ask. Best to get this done in advance as they don't seem to be kept in stock at most dealerships. Also note that you can get a microUSB variant if you're not an iOS user (I'm on Android and I've requested one) as well as 3.5mm headphone jack, video, and a straight-forward USB socket cable for attaching USB sticks which came as a standard second lead in my car. Part number for the red collared lead: 4F0051510R (the one for the blue lead is identical except the last letter is P instead - original thread).

Non-smoking pack no-cost downgrade: Removes 2 components - the cigarette lighters and the (rather desirable and completely removable) cup-shaped ashtray. Cigarette lighters are replaced with chrome-rimmed 12V socket plugs (on my S-line, at least - others reported plain black plastic plugs but chrome ones can be ordered later from Stoke Audi Parts for £4.64 each if necessary). The ashtray is not listed to order on that website, but if you can't wangle one from your dealer it can be bought direct from an Audi parts dept for £49.57... For the sake of having something to dump my keys and change into, I know which way round I'd have ordered my car, in hindsight.

Keyless entry (aka Advanced Key)
: There are a few photos floating around on the interwebs showing a key fob with an LCD display. This is for markets where they include the pre-warm option for cold days. They keyless entry uses the standard key fob (and it's beautiful to use). Some users reported stumbling with locking at first - I've lost the thread but the consensus was just to be calm and gentle when stroking the locking touchpad, and to be aware of where exactly it is. Some have expressed concerns that the key could get separated from the vehicle while the engine was running and the car could effectively be stolen, or at least driven by a friend who finds themself without a key to re-start it at the far end of the journey. In a situation like this, after the driver has removed the key the Stop/Start function refuses to re-start the engine. Even if the genuine owner comes back with the key and behaves as normal, the system asks that the Engine Start button is pressed - pretty reassuring.
Can't speak for what happens when the car has been driven around with the Stop/Start feature manually disabled, but I can check and post back if people want. *Edit:* If the Start/Stop has been manually disabled or if your drive wasn't long enough / aircon is running, you can get out with the engine idling and leave the key behind, then get back in and you'll get a very obvious visual and audio warning but the car will still be driveable.

For a video explanation of the Advanced Key, see here.

I'll keep an eye out for more / for updates on these issues.

Re the BST point above, there never has been an auto adjustment option. It's a manual +1/+0 switch.

Have you guys seen the post I linked to? Vertigo's the one who had the option missing, and he was comparing against people who were looking right at it.

Yep, seen it and posted on it. The option isn't enabling/disabling a permanent automatic adjustment, it's a very manual/basic +1 hour on/off switch which you alternate twice a year.

If you don't have it then it's no loss, do the same with timezone selection.

Thanks. Sorry I misunderstood the problem based on what he was looking for at the start of the thread. I can see that pretending you're in a different country to get the clock right is something you only need to do twice a year, but for the purposes of this thread it's more of a question about why a standard option which most of us can see (to manually activate BST) is missing, because from a snagging list point of view, that could have implications for people who want to tell whether they've got the most recent software or whether they should be expecting to be recalled for an MMI update.

According to Verigo1 and Quimbaby t looks like the investigation has turned into a more problematic issue with the clock and how it works with the DAB.

Indeed. Has got a lot more weird with the DAB clock it seems.

Yeah I've tried all the options and I can't get the right time for the clock and the right time for my DAB schedule timings anymore. Is it just me and Vertigo who have this issue?

i have the DAB but not tech pack, and have the auto time setting , which I have set to GPS, and the man.sum.time box, which I have ticked, and I've had no problems with the time, on either clock or satnav !

mark

What has DAB got to do with it please?
I have DAB, no sat nav and I set BST from the Time menu as above.
Time from GPS is only valid if you have sat nav.

have no clue why do you ask? I was just stating what I had :)

I've always wondered; can you reject a car if its had work done to it on that scale?

my brother in law had a Renault Megane rear bumper demolished by the garage boy an hour before collection all he got was a delay in hand over of a week while they fixed it, a courtesy car while he waited and a couple hundred pounds compensation, and that was after regional director was called in. if that was me I would have rejected it or at least gone for £1k- £2k of the price, especially as regional director got called in so were obviously very worried.

It's far easier to refuse delivery in the event of a problem than reject the car afterwards.

I doubt having a panel resprayed would be enough to warrant a rejection, as long as it was done to a satisfactory standard. However, if it's an important factor in your purchase and the salesman blatantly lies about it, I'd consider that fraudulent. Sometimes they've said "not as far as I know" or words to that effect. However, work done at the dealership would be written on the vehicle documentation on file (particularly if it was transport damage being claimed back) so I ask them to go check.

Update

Since too much time has gone by for me to edit either the initial post in the thread, or the big round-up further up this page at post #22, I'm sticking a new post here.

Vertigo1 has been to the dealership to get his drifting clock / timezone fixed
and although the main clock is done, the times on the DAB radio programmes are an hour out and Audi are unsure why. Perhaps the techs back at Audi HQ will come up with something but there's no fix yet. Not sure exactly which spec you have to have in order to suffer from this problem but a few people have reported it.

Hi Chelmersteve, I'm assuming you live in Chelmsford? I was under the impression that each dealer in the network do their own PDI on sight. I know that Chelmsford have a lot just around the corner to the dealership. Never heard anything about a dedicated off site centre for PDIs.

Hi Mad. I am in Chelmsford but I've bought my last two cars from Hatfield Audi which is part of the M25 Audi Group and it is they who have the dedicated PDI / Prep centre where they do all pdis and prepare used cars for the forecourt - its in London Colney.
I don't have a very high opinion of Chelmsford Audi.

Thanks for letting me know. I was confused for a while. And I can't agree more, Chelmsford aren't great. Typical car salesmen there and don't even get me started on the service department!
