S3 8L vs A3 3.2 v6

Get the 3.2
It is by far a superior car - its even better than the 8P S3 (braces for the impending abuse)

comming from an 8L S3 it would rape the A3 3.2 anytime any day it is lighter concerning that acceleration isnt bad... besides a 3.2 v6 to tune is a nightmare.. better off getting 8L s3 or an a3 2.0TQ

must remember the newer ones are heavier and bigger to the 8L my 8P feel like a limo for godsake lol

as for repairs turbo's dont cost that much these days in England

3.2 is a poor man's S3 8P.

Simple, No excuse of engine note's or exhaust notes.

Nor the excuse of '3.2 DSG' ...

POOR MAN's S3.

wow your all grown up aren't you. why can't people prefer the 3.2?

Well, I am 20 years of age with an S3, but I would of said I am grown up in most aspects of my life, Thank you for your concern though 'Tommo'. But I personally think people who waft this idea of the 3.2 being 'Unique' is kinda of strange. R32's.. Yes. Not a basic looking 3.2. Stick to the real deal I say.

wow your 20! and you have an S3! i'm so jealous! you must so popular around Mcdonalds car parks!

What? Why would I go to Mcdonalds car park?

Seems like the little boy inside of you is throwing a tantrum :( Must Jealous, S3 at 20 - Shame you never recieved that medal ey.

If you want to play hard ball, I will happily sort this out in person though? No need to be a little 'Tommo 2k6 saxo vts' attitude.

The ball is in your park kid.

Hardly Jealous mate, if i wanted an S3 i'd buy one. What medal are you on about?

Can sort it out in person if you like, and am I missing some slang with the Saxo lark? what the F** are you on?

When your 50 you can call me kid buddy until then i'll stick with something more original.

Well that was a needless comment! Yes I'd like an s3 8p but I wouldn't swap my v6 for one, and I really don't see why an r32 is better (except for the buckets!). It's a bit like saying youd only buy an s3 cos you can't afford an rs3.

Was the V6 available without DSG? I'm sorely tempted to trade mine in...saw a TT V6 getting nailed today while I was out with the dogs. Enough to make me get on the classifieds!

As is mine :).
Had mine a year now and love it.Does everything I ask of it and my kids(2 and 7) love it,especially the pace of it.

I wouldn't have said basic-more understated.

The 3.2 is great bang for buck, you get most of what you get from an S3 8P for a lot less money, although to be fair it will be a much older car and look tamer.
Sounds great but hides is pace too well IMO, very civilised.
Has been on my shortlist in the past as there is something cool about a V6 in a hatch.
That said, I do prefer the fizz-bang delivery and tunability of a Turbo car these days.

Shame that we have probably seen the last of small V6 VAGs. Booo.
You will need a BMW for that........

Fuel bills aside I can't help but think a DSG 3.2 A3 is one of the best models they made. I've seen a few they just look like normal A3s but with a monster engine that I imagine would provide an effortless and smooth drive. They're not an R32 rival though which is overtly sporty, the 3.2 A3 is just that, an A3 with a 3.2 engine, in S-Line spec it'd be a really nice car to own - mpg apart.

POOR MAN's S3.

That's not really correct.

I've owned both and they're just very different cars.

If you want a good cruiser with plenty of comfort and a nice exhaust note, get the 3.2.

If you want something faster, rawer and with huge tuning potential get the S3.

That's simple.

Well this thread turned interesting :p

end of day, i would love an s3 8p, but no way i can afford it, so yes in a way the 3.2 is a poor mans s3, however i get the feeling its going to be much more than that when i go test drive one.

or maybe i should just buy a saxo and stick to the car parks? Or is 22 to old for that?

JJ

Nicely put!

Point is that you have to afford the car and enjoy it.

I really liked my 3.2 and I enjoy the S3 as much as any of the cars I've owned but they're different tools for different jobs.

The 3.2 is refined and smooth in a way that the current S3 isn't but the S3 has other attributes.

Whichever you end up with, enjoy it...that's far more important than peeing contests.

End of the day, i want an audi, i want something fairly fast, and something smart. The 3.2 hits all those. And end of day its better than any of my friends cars lol! (Cept the friend with the 50k diesel merc thats faster than an s3 lol)

JJ.

It's a good car.

Ignore the negatives.

There's lot of positives.

Can't tell if trolling....

If you are 'grown up' then act it!

No need for arguments like this for no reason!

I don't see a difficult choice here! The 8P 3.2 is much more modern with an iconic V6 engine, although the tax will be a nightmare!

I test drove a manual 3.2 today. Very solid drive, fair amount of pull, no where near as loud as i thought it would be, but the pull from low revs was really nice and the brakes very strong.
Will get a drive in a dsg version aswell, is the eco mode used a lot or do u just put ur foot down caus its too slow? (Opinions pls

thabks JJ

What the? Seriously thought I was on the wrong forum for a minute! Embarrassing!

Damn that was the wrong thread I quoted got me all flustered lol I meant the other guy you were taking about lol...car park boy!

I went from a modified 8L S3 to a 3.2QS with DSG so I can give you a direct comparison. The S3 is the more agile car, and with sensible modification is faster too. The 3.2 is a more comfortable car for doing the miles, especially with the DSG box. The 1.8t pulls hard, the 3.2 sounds fantastic.

Both are great cars, but I would have thought that an 8L is a bit long in the tooth these days.

2 words JJ, non resonated, I've dropped 10mpg listening to this andi couldn't care less, if you're going to do one mod, this is the one.

Cheers Kai
