Went to open the car today with the fob and it wouldn't open. My main problem though is with the key, it was just unlocking the drivers door and not the rest or not deactivating the alarm so when i opened the door the alarm was going off. Eventually after a good few tries it opened all doors and the central locking worked... but once only, very temperamental.

Any ideas as to why its doing this?

As the fob was working i believ the pump is ok (non sunroof model too) going to try and resync the fob later on. But as a back up it would be nice to be able to manually open the doors with the key.

Could there be a dodgey switch or something within the drivers door? Are the door panels/cards easy to remove?

Cheers for the help

If its a facelift, i think its intentional.

If you open the car with the key, the alarm goes off, and only shuts off when you turn the ignition on.

If its PFL, then the sensor in the door that detects the key being turned is likely broken, my brothers old S4 was like that, and he had to use the passenger door to unlock the car when his fob battery died.

Passenger one is the same, thankfully got my fob communicating with the car again but if it ever dies ill be in trouble. Can you just change the door latch inside the door to fix this issue? My interior light wont come on with drivers door either so guessing its all in this latch set up?

cheers

Reminds me of a similar intermittent issue my stepfather had with his (dog) of an A6 Avant a few years ago....sometimes he'd unlock the car with the remote and get in but the the interior lights wouldn't come on and the alarm would go off!..
We traced it to a damaged/dodgy microswitch within the drivers side door lock itself; the fob was physically unlocking the car but the microswitch was not causing the alarm to be deactivated etc, hence all the noise when opening the door....
A new door lock cured it (which meant the interior panel and inner 'frame' of door had to come out!); I believe the A4 has the same design of lock?

Yeah i'd say it's the same. I thought maybe if the door panel was removed the lock could just screw out and a new one put in but using the same barrel so you dont need to change the key??
