2013 Audi S3

3rd or 4th April would be excellent.

You ready to hit the order button then mate, or more research / work needed ?

What colour and options are you decided on or considering at the moment ?

Not research as such Snake, I would like to have seen an actual car in Estoril Blue, which I am very much leaning towards. I have checked Audi on their used car search and there is none within 200 miles of me! But from the vids and photos I have seen I am pretty convinced thats the colour for me.

Options - definitely - The option alloys like on the car I saw at Geneva. Technology pack to get the top MMI Nav unit with the new Audi Connect too. Bang and Olufsen sound. LED headlights. Phone box thingy. Comfort pack. Folding Mirrors. Privacy glass (if not standard). Alum roof rails (if not standard). Park system plus and rear view camera. Adaptive cruise control.

Possible option - pano roof. still not 100% sure, think I would want it? haven't seen it up close yet.

Not quite ready to order though - as when prices/spec released I want to start to see what deals I can get for my chosen spec. I will be seeing what the internet car brokers can do and also will be contacting lots of audi dealers directly myself. I really dont mind collecting a car from somewhere in the country - it would be a nice drive home in a new S3 !!

Yeah I am leaning towards estoril blue now too.
The video you posted of that S5 looked amazing in that colour.
Plus, estoril is exclusive to S / RS cars in the Audi range, so you will not see many about.

Agree on the alloys -same as the car you took pictures of in Geneva with the darkened finish, they look superb.
Nice design, great colour and unique to the S3.

I don't use sat nav much so hard for me to justify the advanced MMI.
I don't even listen to music that much in the car either - so B&O whilst appealing would probably be a waste for me.

LED headlights are a must.
Look stunning from a visual point of view, really finish the front end of and are unique on a car in this class.
Not even many other car brands doing them.

Pano roof I am sold on.
Just like the visual look of it and the option to open up the roof in the summer.
Plus you get the extra light into the car.
Mated with the darkend privacy glass which I will also spec, it just looks cool !
Against red or blue paint it will look spot on.

Folding mirrors I also want.
I will also spec lumbar adjustment.
Phone box makes sense.

Then I just need to decide on the seats.
I really like the option sports (quilted) seats, but looking on the german price sheet you found I am thinking they may be £1000
So need to consider that one.
I quite like the idea of the standard seats with part alcantara.
For some reason it is a no cost option with Audi, but premium brands like Porsche and Aston Martin charge extra from alcantara ??
So that is an option to save a grand and get a different look possibly.

Yes, although I havent seen the standard seats (the car at Geneva had the audi design exclusive interior) what I read about them sounded really good, so I will be happy with standard - but I had forgot about the alcantara no cost option. Could be good.

Yes elec lumbar adjustment worth it too and I forgot to mention the advanced key - childish possibly but I like the idea and look of that in the car!

Snake - would you be after Sportback or the 3Dr??

Got tired of waiting for prices for the s3 etc opted for an RS3 in Suzuka, get it in two weeks! The s3 pics posted from Geneva look spot on, Estoril Blue or Suzuka. Lovely.

3 door for me mate.

RS3 = awesome car and Suzuka is a fantastic colour ... No waiting too ... You will love it !

Keep thinking about estoril blue now !
That S5 footage really does make it look a stunning colour.
That may be another £500 notes added to the bill (red was free) :)

Forgot to say - I think the estoril blue crystal effect might be about £750 ish? and the Geneva S3 in my photos was the the misano red pearl effect which is £525.

Seriously? Order books open on the 3rd / 4th of April?
That's great news.

Not confirmed but thats what my dealer told me last week. The official info on the news section of audi site just says orders open from April. My dealer told me he remembered it wasn't 1st April (as its April fools day) and thought it was going to be something like 3rd or 4th. He said as long as I had registered interest via their website (which I had already done) I would hear as soon as anyone.

Having said that though - I am sure I registered interest in the new Golf GTI - order books opened yesterday for that and I havent heard anything from VW at all !

Hi Mate,

Hope estoril blue will not be more than standard pearls or metallics.
If it is, it will be a shift from when I bought my TTS.
That is the panther black crystal paint and although it was exclusive to the S, it was the same premium as the other option colours.
So fingers crossed it will be £525 extra as the standard car over cost.

EDIT ....

Just checked the Audi S5 and you may be right.

Standard pearls and metallics are £615 extra
Estoril blue on the S5 is £865 extra.

Damn .. what a cheek !

As for the Geneva car.
Are you sure that is misano red, as I thought it was brilliant red (solid) - the no cost option.
Can you look close at your photo's and check there is no metallic / pearl fleck in the paint just to check.
I am fairly sold on Estoril now TBH but the red paint is my back up (was my 1st choice) :)

For a compact sized saloon, it does look great and reminds of the old Ford Orion Ghia days.
But I am not sure why you would want a compact saloon over a 5 door sportback, which in essence is still a 'hot hatch' !
I would imagine residuals would be lower for the saloons too, with it being a more limited market.
Does look cool though, Audi have done well with the new A3 / S3.

conversely, residuals might be higher if there's less of them in the used market. Boy racers absolutely lapped up the more performance oriented versions of the VW Bora in the used market meaning that for a while they were difficult to come by and more expensive than golfs.

If I was going for an S3 it would probably be the sedan

Yes it defo is Misano red. In the photo set on my flickr pages there is one photo of the spec sheet that was displayed alongside the S3. Near the top you can see it - something like Coloure Exteriure - Rouge Misano ! - pardon my french spelling if i got it slightly wrong. Audi seem to have been using Misano red for virtually all their media stuff and show cars this year, even the new S3 sedan is in misano red. I think the standard red is just a bit darker.

Reason why i think that Estoril blue crystal effect paint will be £750 is because of the old A3 brochure (for 2012) which included the old shape S3 and it lists Estoril blue in that for £750. So basically an extra £225 above ordinary metallic cost gets you the exclusive colour :)

Thanks mate you are a font of S3 knowledge :)

yeah that all stacks up then.

Hmmm so even the red on the show car was extra !
in which case I would probably pay the extra and go for estoril then.
especially as its 'exclusive' to the S and it does look fantastic.

Glad to put my knowledge to some sort of use! p.s. are you having manual or s tronic?

Manual for me, didnt know what you had in your TTS.

Manual for me ... never had the 'bug' for auto / s-tronic.
had a TTS sTronic for a couple of weeks while mine was in the garage and can't say I preferred it over the manual and 'being in control and slotting the gears in myself'
if I did loads of miles it may be a factor but I don't so manual all the way.
Nice gearbox too on the tts which bodes well for the s3.

Couldn't agree more.

I have a TTSR manual and the gearbox is superb, and my S3 SB is manual as well....I believe changing gear is a skill to be enjoyed, but that is lost on the PlayStation generation. who just want perfect gearchanges every time done by a computer.

That's progress I suppose, but I think it's a bit sad......all we'll have to do is steer in the end....won't that be fun !!!!!

I'll go away and lie down now.

I can appreciate why those that prefer the auto s-tronic sing its praises as it is very seamless and smooth.
But you either are a big fan or your not - at least we have the choice eh.
And by choosing manual, we save £1,800 notes :)

So lets see what next week brings then, if the prices and final spec are confirmed / released.

I have always been a manual man, so at least for me - saving that extra expense may help me keep my car below £40k !!

Trying to find images of brilliant red vs misano red but hard to see the difference on pictures.
May need to check out the Dealers.
Misano has an almost orange tint to it would you say, whereas brilliant red appears to be straight red no question.
I just wanna research the misano a little more, as I do still like it.
But the estoril being 'exclusive' to the S is a draw (even if its an extra £250) and I do like deep blues.

While I am sure paint technology has improved I had bad experience years ago with a red vauxhall cavalier that quickly faded to a matt pink - from an ownership point of view it put me off red for life! But the misano red at Geneva really was impressive indeed, theres something about it that gives it such a boost.

Had one red car previously - a Civic Type R, for 3.5 years and that was fine.
So yeah, think they must have sorted that issue now.
Hmmm ... estoril or misano

Yeah but I like both

Would it niggle away that standard A3 S-Lines would look very similar in Misano?

The Estoril would be that little bit more special.

At the end of the day though, you've got to go with the colour you want. :icon_thumright:

Hmmm tough decisions.
I know what you are saying about the estoril being exclusive and that is a + I must confess.
Plus, the footage of the S5 above in estoril in natural light looks amazing.
But Misano does look amazing and really suits the car, hence why Audi have used it in all their press shots and for motor show cars.
Oh well ... a nice problem to have I suppose.

I used be indecisive about this type of thing but now I'm not so sure !

Something I keep forgetting to ask ...

The S3 uses the standard temperature dial as a boost gauge, so where is the engine temp displayed on the S3 ?

I'd anticipate it'd be in the DIS and a separate light for overheating. My S3 had oil temperature in the DIS which was far more useful than water temp.

Interesting point Snake, there is nothing obvious on the photos and vids that I have seen of the instruments so perhaps it must be as hittchy says just a warning light if it gets too hot.

Yeah would seem logical guys in the DIS.

The mmi in the spec makes ref to a special 'S' screen so maybe could be in there too.

hope it's easy accessed as I do look at the temp to know when the car is up to temp so not to drive 'hard' before that.

Ok then Guys.

Tough decision here.

Estoril blue or Misano Red for the S3 ?????

If you were able to get to Audi showroom on Piccadilly they have a Missano red A3 next to an estoril blue S3. For me it would definitely be the blue.

So did you actually get to see the estoril blue first hand mate ?

It looks quite dark in the pics above, but that is from the Audi London showroom.

Would like to see one natural light to see how much it brightens up.
