Hi all,

This question has probably been asked before but I could not find a similar post so here goes...

I own a A4 avant 2003. Climate control works, as in i can choose between ECON and AUTO. However, no cold air comes out at all. From 18 degrees and up, it is hot air, all the same temp from 18 to HIGH.

I cannot hear the 'clicking' when turning it on and when it is on LOW, it seems to only blow ambient air not air con cold.

Just wondering if anyone has had this before, Im guessing its more than just a re-gas....

Any help would be great, not a 'car pro' so please humor me :)

Thanks

Jack

Scanning with vcds could pinpoint a problem, have a look in the vcds section map to see who is near to you who maybe able to help.

I have similar issues with my a3, nothing comes up on a scan and my econ button intermittently lights up. I think I just need a re gas

I had this and I topped off the air con with this: Halfords | EZ Chill Auto Air Conditioning Recharge

I know a lot of sites on the internet do not recommend these kind of products or recharging in this manner at home but the system was not in 'danger' mode according to the pressure gauge so I took a chance. I have not had to top up the system for over a year now and I use it pretty heavily in the summer months too. I guess the gauge could possibly help to identify any leaks too.

A friend told me about this but I think for peace of mind ill pay for it to be done!

I thought that the cooling only operates above 16 degrees or something, I.e if the outside air temp is warmer than your desired cabin temp.

Nah.. because I often use air con for quicker demisting of the windscreen and often the temp has been anything between 5 degrees and 10 degrees. May be it has a safe mode for minus temps though? I dare not try use it when its -4 or something.

air con will not work if outside temp is below 5oC

If the temp is above this and aircon still not working, it is advisable to have the system checked thoroughly for leaks etc with guages & leak dye. VCDS is not the most practical diagnosis tool for aircon

I'm now in the same boat... no codes on vcds, conducted a thorough output tests of electric components that I could using vcds but no problems identified. I'm going to get this checked out next month now as my air con man is away on holiday but will bookmark thread... not too fussed at the moment.

My compressor is leaking! The good thing about the the A/C refill kit is that you get a pressure gage to check for pressure... and this can also indicate leaks... so I checked it again, the system was near empty... I started to refill... all I heard was sssssssssssssssssss... I got the UV lamp out and I could just make out that the compressor is leaking. I think its about £250 for a replacement, the labour runs at about 4 hours but I have found a DIY guide and if I am feeling brave one day then I will go for it.
