Afternoon everybody!!

This poll is to gauge some interest on who would be interested in Genuine Carbon Fibre B Pillars for their Audi A3s, S3s, RS3s.

I am in talks with a guy I used to go to school with whose company deals in a lot of carbon for the Audi TT. I have mentioned to him about all the various threads I have seen pop up on here about the B-Pillars and people wanting the real deal Carbon Fibre stuff! None of this skinning or wrapping or anything like this.

These will be manufactured using Prepreg carbon fibre which is the lightest, strongest and highest quality Carbon Fibre available which will give the best results for fitment and be the hardest wearing! The carbon is then lacquered by a specialist rather than leaving the carbon dry, this ensures UV stability and protection from the elements.

Having done some research on this with him, there is no real solution out there at the moment for the A3 / S3 / RS3! We would have to start from scratch. This will involve the initial R&D, mould manufacturing and then testing etc! This all has to be paid for up front. Once everything is satisfactory after testing it would take from 3-5 weeks for your carbon to arrive once the order has been placed!

Ok so from our research we know that we could potentially cater for all A3s S3s RS3s that were manufactured between 2004 and 2013. This includes 3dr and 5dr models.

This isn't one of those loose threads, this is for people who are seriously interested in getting genuine carbon pillars for their vehicles. We need to gain a real idea on the demand for these! We can then make a decision on whether to splash out on getting the ball rolling or not.

Please select from the Poll which vehicle you have that you would consider having these fitted to.

Nobody will be held to anything at this stage as I can appreciate most people want to know cold hard costs before commitment.

I'm just waiting for some images to show you an example of the Carbon Fibre! These will be put up either this evening or tomorrow!

If you have any questions / ideas / thoughts in the meantime then please do comment on this thread below!

Mods: Please could you sticky this for the next week or two please.

Any samples of his work, price range?

As mentioned in the first post above he will be sending me some example shots this evening... Costs aren't 100% at the moment as I need to gauge interest first. The initial R&D could cost me anything from £300 - £1000.

Once its all worked out then a final buy price will be given to you chaps. Will ask for a rough idea idea though!

Do you know of the technic of how these are made ?

The video below is a way of making any part wrapped which I found quite interesting. As I've never seen it done like this before..I usually just see people with a heat gun and simply wrap it. I saw this on wheeler deals on the discovery channel the other day.

Would like to know a rough price for 3 door ones first ?

I believe that these are made wholly from carbon fibre its an interesting process rather than dipped or wrapped

I'd be interested in the 3 door B pillar covers, provided the price isn't too high.

PH1L is correct.... These are pure carbon. The stuff in the video is just a film that goes over plastic I believe. Cheap and cheerful come to mind.

I'm not 100% on the ins and outs of how they are made. I do know they take a while though!

I know that people are asking for a price but please read the OP. It's very difficult to give a price when we haven't had the mould made up yet or enquired about the lacquer. As these are genuine carbon, they are a serious product and not aimed at the lower end or "cheap" resolve.

A lot of guys over on the TT Forum have bought these mirrors. They are very popular with TTS and TTRS owners!

This poll is just to get an idea of what would be popular with what vehicle etc etc.

With the greatest respect matey, I have a lot of my inteior trim done by the guys in the video. The quality is ****** brilliant and I get so many compliments on the finish its ridiculous. I love the real carbon stuff that your friends are selling but to get the same parts trimmed with genuine carbon would be just silly.

I certainly wouldn't say cheap and cheerful...... Just my 2p worth.

No worries... No offence or anything like that intended.

I have seen some of the stuff in the video and have to admit some is good and some has been shocking. I guess it's all down to the company you use etc.

The reason this thread / poll was started was down to how many threads I have seen over the past year about B Pillars and carbon. I know that people want the real deal and thought for the benefit of the members on here I would try and get something sorted. As previously said, this isn't a £60 for a set option. It will be a bespoke part made for people who want it. :)

No offence taken. Well not much. ;0)

You should speak to Lyle at Wicked Coatings as they are in Holton Heath and take a look at his work. I'm pretty particular and his stuff is good. It's not genuine carbon and but it's also not real carbon price.

I would be interested in who you are looking at using as I am originally from Bournemouth so pm me!!

Done...................

I'd be interested, depending on price

i would want the carbon b pillars for my sportback! but all down to cost obviously which i will look forward to hearing

I would buy one if the price range go anywhere around 400 quid, very nice! But was just wondering whether they are unbreakable...?1?

Cheers

They look great, don't get me wrong..

..But i can see these being a great target for thieves.

I would hate you fork out for something like this and then a week later, see them ripped off by some muppet/s :sadlike:

What isn't a target for thieves though?
What's the answer, sell your pride and joy and buy a £500 which they will steal anyway.

The Prepreg Carbon will be very strong, the strongest carbon you can get but it's not going to be unbreakable.

The B Pillars are quite secure, it seems from looking at the schematics that to get them off you need the door to be open and remove either a torx bolt or rivet (depending on year) to get the pillars off. The thief would have a difficult job doing this from what it seems.

Right guys, it seems we have a good amount of interest to start taking things to the next step. I will be in talks with my mate about how to proceed with this. A brand new set of pillar will be bought, investigated and various designs will be drawn up before potentially taking a mould of them. From what he has said to me, initial research will need to be done on the pillars to make sure it's a feasible part to produce at a cost that we will be all happy to pay. An additional comment was made by him that these can be made in both matte or gloss with the lacquer depending on people's tastes.

I will update with future progress. Thanks for all your input and interest guys :)

ok cool thanks for update , interest in 3 door gloss when prices are available .

thanks John

Your attitude sucks.

Responses like this is why i, and other members i know, do not come here that often anymore.

..Like i said, they look great. I hope they do well

Apologise for bumping the thread, but what was the outcome of this? Found some for £136 for a 3 door, would these work out much cheaper?

+1 interest for B pillars for a 07 5 door sportback a3

Hey guys...

Sorry business is very busy at the moment so have very little time for spending time on here so apologies.

So this is a massive thread revival as I posted up over 14months ago originally. Unfortunately there wasn't the required amount of interest to get the prototype rolling. The cost of these are normally very expensive.

I would suggest you get in direct contact with CarbonWurks:
