failed MOT as rear levelling sensor missing

Hi all, S3 8L just failed MOT as rear levelling sensor missing!! But as car lowered before I bought it, assumed it has been removed as rear axle at different angle now! How have you others coped with this problem and am I just being daft and a new one will fit back on easily no probs?! HELP

If the car is lowered Mr R then the leveling sensor won't work as it will be out of range. Presumably you can just fit one,get headlights adjusted manually and leave the self leveling disconneted. I did this on my old Bora and it passed the Irish NCT (our MOT)

Oh my mate s3 light leveller is broke and what a ****ter to see at night! The lights literally light up 20 cm in front of the car... Without full beam it was very hard to see.

Adjust them manually. I snapped the arm on my sensor, so fixed the light at MOT pass level.

New MOT rules suggest that self levelling system and headlamp washers (both legally required for HIDS/Xenons in the UK) should operate as intended... not sure how they test these tbh but NHN recently had this issue...

Mine is fixed with cable ties passed the MOT 2 weeks ago no probs

Exactly! Since this week all systems for levelling and washers should work from factory as intended. So gonna buy another sensor, fit it so I can re-align lights and fingers crossed. Not sure how as its lowered though........

Be very rare that you get a jobsworth mot tester that will pull anyone up on washers and level sensors.
I watched everything my tester did last week for the ST (main dealer too), headlight level checked, it was right, so he moved on to the brakes.
Obv everyone wants a thorough inspection, but no one will be that thorough

Well I must be unlucky coz he did go over everything but I think it might be just because the level sensor isn't there at all!!

You say "jobsworth" but if it got let through when it should have failed the Tester risks his license and possibly his livelihood.

Also for the record, the changes only got implemented on the 20th. So prior to that, leveling etc wasn't a RfR (Reason for rejection).

You need to refit a rear sensor, and then adjust using VCDS.

You can set them up on a lowered car, you just need to put the headlights into the adjustment position, adjust the lights manually, then finish the VCDS process so that the car learns the new level.

My car is lowered, and the lights work fine.

This sensor does not need to be disconnected/removed for lowered cars. A lot of fitters forget to disconnect it from the track arm during a suspension change, and damages it as a result.
