Hi all,

Album artwork only seems to show up when i choose the reduced display setting? This normal?

Btw i used "album art agregattor" to collect 500x500 images and it worked a treat.

No that's not normal, it should show in the normal display too.

Mine only shows in the reduced display with my Daughters iPod . Will try with my iPad and other cable as I have both the Blue and Red grommet versions

I can't get any album artwork to appear using iPhone 4S. Tried the reduced display and still no joy.. Any ideas?

The one with the blue collar. Unless you've specified the Technology Pack...

Mine came with a plain black lead. No collar. XXXCorps thanks for the info

sorry. i should have mentioned that this is using the sd card

This has been covered in previous post but basically you need to re-embed your tracks with artwork of 500x500 pixels or lower. You will be able to find the required artwork by searching for that album's Pic in Google...
Alternatively there is various software for PC and Mac that will do this automatically.

thanks. artwork works fine, but wondered why only in 'reduced display mode'

I think this may depend on whether you have the Tech pack or not. I've tried it with my A3 and it does the same as the OP - can't see a way of changing settings for the normal display. All artwork is fine in reduced display though.

Standard MMI doesn't have as fully featured media functionality as far as I can see.

artwork is fine on my standard MMI , reduced or normal! Whether it makes a difference my mp3's are not download through iTunes so I add album art myself?

Yes - I get the above display if I select 'functions' and get it in the reduced display. However, it looks very different to the tech pack display in Vertigo's images (below).

I did the same as you and added album art manually.

I just use SD cards. So much simpler than faffing around with cables and ipods. Can't imagine that you'd ever need more music than what you can fit on two 32GB cards... come to think of it, 1x16GB card would more than suffice.

probably because there is more room, bigger screen, to get it on this view, non reduced

Everyone should be getting the above view even in the non Tech Pack MMI. I tried my SD cards that I use in my current car in the 8v A3 S Line I borrowed from Huddersfield Audi and the artwork appeared just fine on every track like the above pic. The artwork on mine has been reduced to 300x300 pixels though from when I had my A1 which had the same MMI as the 8v.
The A1 manual actually told you the size the artwork had to be to display properly; does the A3 one not mention this?

Corps, just to confirm, you're saying we should be getting album art on, normal view, reduced view and function view, with standard MMI ? As I only get the grey box appear if it can display artwork on the reduced and function menu. If it could display them on the normal view wouldn't it have a grey box showing ready for the artwork ?

What it sounds like you're getting here if I understand correctly is a grey box with a question mark in it? You should be getting the artwork displaying in this. If you aren't then it may be because the artwork size is too large. Like I said; in the Audi A1 owners manual it actually told you the artwork size for it to display correctly so would assume that the new A3 manual it would do the same.
I would do a test with one of your tracks or albums with a 300x300 pixel pic in it and take it from there.

Peter

In normal view, I just get the standard track list just like I get in my A4 - no grey box where album art would go.

The album art displays in function view or reduced view. If the album art is the wrong size or missing, I get the grey box in these views.

The lower left option key is also 'function' rather than 'media centre' on mine.

Sorry that's what I'm saying/mean, I don't get any grey boxes anymore now I've installed all my artwork, so if I had the wrong size wouldn't there be a grey box on the normal screen, like you do on the reduced and function screens? Which I don't get, so presumed that screen "normal view" didn't have the function to load it up! Lol clear as mud I say :)

All; watch this. This is what you should be getting and forgot to ask about the file types you're using on your SD cards as that may be the issue.
Hope this solves your problems anyhow...

all my music is done this way, never use iTunes if I'm honest! The point me and hittchy are making i think, is our album art all displays fine, but under the normal view on the standard MMI for the A3 there is no allowance for art to be displayed.

Hi Mark, I'm not sure what you mean with 'normal view' and the different ones you mention. What I saw on the MMI in the A3 I borrowed from my SD cards is what it shows in that video with the artwork showing to the right of the track information.

lol ah ok, that's called the reduced view! What we think is that the normal view on vertigos tech pack screen shown above has space for album art also ! The standard MMI screen doesn't , and only shows it on either the reduced screen, shown In your video, or the function menu shown in my pic above :)

I'm with you. Well from what you've just said; the 'normal view' will only show the artwork if you have the Technology Pack...

Going on what we have said above, those grey boxes will show album art, and if you have DAB the grey box will show track artwork and information (only if the station sends it , not all do)

Has anybody figured out if you can get the grey box showing an outline of a persons head on the address book to show a photo if you have them loaded on your phone address book ?

I have tech pack. I'm using a SD card too. Seems easier than faffing around with my classic ipod and iphone 5 / nano with lightening connx.

Bought a 32GB from Asda - £15. The only thing I would add is about how you load the SD card.

I found that by clicking and dragging tracks to the SD card they would copy but playback would be random.

If you open a new folder on your SD card and then fill that folder with a particular cd then the tracks play in order. I realise it's a little long-winded but at least the cd plays completely. The random thing was driving me nuts!

Still, it's early days for me and this is the best I've found yet.

Cheers.

PS I'm using a MAC if that makes any difference.

Hello everyone,

i am new to the Forum but have been reading and enquiring since i ordered my Sportback six months ago and learnt a lot prior to the beast arriving last week, so thank you for that everyone :) very pleased so far.

Anyhow i drove an A1 beforehand and know about the Artwork tagging malarky and got a new bigger SD Card for the new car, now the weirdness starts..

I use A Mac and itunes both at home and work and embed Artwork manually into each mp3 using Photoshop to resize every image to 499x499 and then save for web to get the initial small data size which works a treat but takes donkeys to do.

I stuck the card into the A1 to test beforehand and every single track displayed correctly (brill cause it took me about 15 hours to do about 900 Tracks from scratch) but now in the A3 about 20% of the tracks are not showing up, tried exporting a new mp3 file in itunes and embedding a new artwork again and replacing said tracks but still no joy.

Anyone have a similar problem maybe?

I'm like Monk when it comes to Album Art and Track Name displaying..I cannot stand the grey boy in the MMI.

Anyhow, thanks for any help in Advance.

Cheers Alex

If you have albums/tracks that won't display artwork, there is a free program calls ''MP3TAG'. It can do many things, one of which is to load the cover art onto the metadata of the tracks. Very easy to use and takes seconds for each album. Worked for me.
