My SPORT to S-LINE Conversion (Part No's, Prices & Tips included)...

UPDATE:

Ok, so I've had the Bluefin remap installed for 5 days now and........ I'm impressed. Very impressed.
In stock form the 2.0TFSI is pretty quick, but since the remap it is SO much better. 1st gear is noticeably more lively, and so are 3rd and 4th, and even 5th. But its 2nd gear where all the fun is at.
Before the remap 2nd was powerful enough and gave an even/linear pull throughout its rev range... but now you can feel the power building with a big kick mid way through, continuing all the way to the red line.

I've read that superchips/bluefin maps can be tame, and some even claiming they could hardly tell the difference when comparing it to stock (although to be fair, this wasn't said about the 2.0T in reviews I found), but for me it's a significant improvement. In fact, as my car currently stands, I really don't think it could handle any more power (like REVO etc apparently provide) as it would probably become undriveable, being FWD.

Pulling away hard from standstill gives wheel spin in 1st and 2nd, and very nearly in 3rd, so whilst I usually sing the praises of Falken (FK452) tyres they just aren't cutting it now with the extra power. Will be changing the tyres pretty soon I think. I'm also considering some new engine mounts or inserts (thanks again Farhan) as wheel hop has appeared when pulling off at full throttle from standstill.

DSG seems to be fine with the engine remap also. Gear changes are still smooth, and it switches between gears at the same points as it did when I was on the stock map.

I flicked back to the stock map just to see if the bluefin improvement was a bit of placebo. It wasn't. Back in stock form the car felt so much less responsive, especially when on the move.

I'll stick a few more miles on the clock and see how I feel after that, but at the moment i'm smiling.

Bluefin did the same thing for me.
makes car so much livelier!

Where did you get the shark fin aerial from as i quite fancy one of those? I am going to look at at a breakers as they have an sline sport back, how do i remove the spoiler from it is it screwed in or just stuck down?

My aerial was factory fitted from new.

The spoilers are screwed down and stuck with bonding tape. Gotta be careful when removing though because they can crack if pulled incorrectly.

Right ok, that is why the aerial looks so good! does that mean your car came with sat nav then? So that means i will have to remove trim on the inside of the tailgate and unscrew it before i can pull it off then, sounds like a pain but it looks so much better!

Chris

CHris, i think in most cases the sharkfin is for blutooth rather than sat nav - i've got one too and don't have sat nav. i think Nige once told me that some have dual aerials which also do sat nav, but most are done with a small receiver somewhere under the dash.

Update on the bluefin remap:

A thousand or so miles into the remap I noticed that my car was experiencing the dreaded hestitation issues. It wasn't higher up the rev range, it was only happening when accelerating hard from low revs in mainly 1st and 2nd gear, somewhere around the 1.5-2k mark.

I gave it a few days to see if it was maybe down to the extremely cold weather, but even after temperatures saw the positive side of zero degrees it was still doing it pretty much everytime I accelerated hard.

I phoned Superchips and spoke to helpful guy on the technical desk. He had a quick look at the remap I had been sent and said that I'd actually been sent a remap for a manual 2.0T instead of the one for a DSG, which my car is.
He wasn't sure how this had happened as I had made the correct selection when using their desktop software to request the remap.
Anyway, he sent me the correct map for DSG cars (explaining that the shift points in this map were slightly different to the manual map) and later that night I downloaded it from their servers and uploaded it to my car.

And the result.... no more hesitation. The car is back to being perfectly smooth throughout any type of acceleration, gentle or hard.

So, yes, a silly error like that is the downside of using a remote remapper such as Superchips/bluefin. But credit to them, they sorted it within two minutes of me calling them and the guy was very helpful, explaining the ins and outs of the differences between the two maps.

So, maybe something to explore/bear in mind for anyone else suffering from hesitation issues on their remapped DSG equiped car.

I so want a remap now!! Just worried that i won't be able to get away quick from a standstill as atm i get wheelspin in 1st and when it gets into 2nd it really goes but if when remapped it wheelspins in 2nd i won't be going anywhere thanks to esp is that right?

Chris

If you plant your foot from standstill then you will get a lot of wheelspin, not straight away, but when that turbo comes in you'll spin pretty badly, esp or no esp, 1st and 2nd gear. And if its in the wet... forget about it!
But you learn, and you'll know how much gas you can give it from standstill. Now 9 times out of 10 I can get away quicker from standstill than I could in stock. Takes a bit more concentration though.

Rolling acceleration is so much easier though. You can plant your foot as much as you like and the most you'll get is the odd chirp coming from the wheels. You should be able to get all of the power down most of the time when moving, unless its really wet and your tyres aren't the best.

The 2.0T is wasted in stock form. Don't get me wrong, its nippy enough, but a remap makes it what it should really be.
I've switched back to stock map a couple of times and the car feels quite sluggish and unresponsive.

Get it done mate!

Haha. Also bear in mind that with bluefin they give you seven days to use the full remap and if you don't like it then you can have your money back, no questions asked. So basically it's a risk free buy.
Revo also offer a trial so something you should maybe consider too. I think the revo trial only lasts a few hours though and the version they let you try isn't the full powered map.

MPG wise... So far I'm getting a few more miles to the tank since the remap. I'd say an extra 20-30 miles per tank.

Great write up!

I noticed your car doesn't have headlight washers, but do you know if the covers for the washer jets are re-usable when you exchange a regular bumper for an s-line bumper? Or should I watch out not to buy an s-line bumper without the washer covers?

As far as I know the covers are different shapes so your old ones will not fit an s-line bumper.

You can order new ones, primed and ready for painting, from Audi though....

part numbers 8P4 955 276 GRU (right) & 8P4 955 275 GRU (left), and they cost about £12 each

We may need to talk bumpers sometime. I'm always toying with a new rear bumper for the a4.

Car looks ace now, and good to see you had it mapped, I didn't know you'd done it.

Didn't even realise you posted this mate. Still in the market for a new bumper?

Final update..... I'm selling up and moving on. Just deciding whether to part ex or sell it privately.
And if there is anyone who wants to twist my arm into doing a private sale then please feel free ;)

I doubt it, I've moved on to the possibility of buying an s4 in the summer if things go right so on a spending cull at the moment.

As above, what you replacing the a3 with? Shame I just got new wheels otherwise I'd have been after your fat 5's. :)

You selling the Bluefin buddy?

Nice. Which one you going for??

Nothing for now, but in a few months time it'll be one of a few cars I'm considering.

I would tell you which ones..... but I don't want to. :ninja:

Not for now. Gonna keep hold of it because may use it on the replacement. Will post up if I decide to sell it though.

No worries, seriously considering getting it done but worried of the effect it'll have on the DSG. How's yours been?

It's been as good as gold. My dsg responds and reacts in the same way it did when the car was stock.
Before I remapped mine I was a bit scared too about what the dsg would be like, but it was energy wasted. They are built to handle a lot more power than stock puts through them.

Go for it. You'll be wasting your engine if you don't.

If I do it'll be a b6 most likely. Possibly a b7, but I actually prefer the b6 styling. And b8 is a complete no go, I'm not rich enough for one of them for about another 8 years. :)

And b8 is a complete no go, I'm not rich enough for one of them for about another 8 years. :)

They'll probably be on b10 by then, so a b8 then will be like having a b6 now.

Prize for anyone who understands what I just said, cos I don't.

I do, I do. Can I have a box of maltesers?

And what you said is what I meant. But I was on a train and couldn't be bothered to type it, so thanks.

I just can't decide whether I actually like older cars or just convince myself that the older ones are nicer since I can't afford a new one.

So that's it... she's gone. Left the car as it was and part ex'd it. Tried to sell privately but there were hardly any takers. Didn't even get to the viewing stage, just one text message and that was it. I priced it at the cheapest on Autotrader for the year/mileage/etc for a quick sale but not a nibble. Not easy to sell an A3.

But anyway, I got a decent part ex on it and a deal has been done ----------> http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-...k-i-need-vwsn-volkswagen-sport-net-forum.html

I'm looking at doing this (Well I have a pre-55 plate sline), finding parts a lot more hard to come by and more costly.

Can people please confirm that 8P3 807 511 is definitely the facelift bumper? I've seen a cheap one listed with that part number but as 2003-2008 but it looks same as the pictures.

Did anyone ever confirm if A4 s-line fog lights fit? It's a shame that the Sport fog lights don't fit?

yes the A4 fogs fit the A3 Sline and S3 bumper... also fits the facelift bumpers too

Ash can you give me a call ? I've been trying to contact you.

Yep, 8P3 807 511 is defo a facelift 3dr rear bumper, as I've just bought one a few months ago.

Can't help you with the fogs though unfortunately.

Still very much struggling to get the parts to do this...it's almost becoming more tempting to get facelift parts as they are much cheaper but it'll be the paint that costs.

Managed to get the rear bumper, think i'll bite the bullet and get the sline/black edition diffuser eventually unless I can find one breaking.
