coilovers and how their rated

As above. Thought id start a thread as id like (im sure others will 2) to here what COILOVERS people are running and how find they find them?
Basically a review of what the good bad and dodgy set ups are out there.
And is there really a huge difference between a decent budget coilover, compared to a set costing £1000+

This car, £200 FK Sports coilovers, rubbish. Last car, KW V3's, awesome.

To be fair, for £200 the FK Sports are not too bad, if you can live with the knocking and the occasional bouncy bits! For someone on a budget, they are good value but I would never buy them again personally.

The KW's were amazing, had them set up properly with corner weighting at West Tuning at a cost of £450 but it transformed the car!

From experience I tend to stay away from the cheaper brands, I.e;
Raceland, Vogtland, TA Technics, FK.etc

Try to stick to a reputable name - i.e KW.
I like Weitec personally, they are well priced and actually made by KW, so you know it's a decent product.

I'm running KW V1's and they are (as already said) awesome! I've lost count how many coilovers I've had on my cars over the years ranging from all makes and quality of coilover, and I can safely say that the KW's win hands down, and the V1's are the base model as well! The ride quality is literally OE on my A4 with the KW's so comfort has not been compromised at all, and that's with running wide 19" wheels as well, yet handling (body roll etc) is dramatically improved.

Another brand also made by KW is AP coilovers, I've had a set of those on my old 8L S3 and I put that car through its paces with them on and they were a very very good coilover for little money.

I really wanted a set of KW V1's but KW upped their pricing quite abit at the start of Feb and removed the V1 basic line.
Cheapest KW's I could find were the V1 innox which were close to a grand.

Managed to get a set of Weitec GT's on the old pricing - so far im very happy with them as I have been in the past.
I do around 30,000 miles a year, the ride is firm but comfortable the build quality of the coilovers is spot on too - rebound is just right I think as well.

Generally the more you spend the better quality kit you'll get in terms of build and materials and you'll usually get a more refined ride with the higher priced kits.

It all depends on your budget, what you use the car for and what you're expecting from the kit.

Im on route for some coilovers hence the thread.
Ive a budget of £500. What do rate or recommend for my audi.

Just a daily driver racking up around 500 miles a week,on motorways.
I do like a firm ride but all so dont want to feel evey bump, if that can be done?

The AP and V-Maxx are both good options for what you're wanting and I'm sure we could do something to bring them closer to your £500.00 budget - DPM - Audi A4 B6 Coilovers

Im running FK sport edition +, they are good, adjustable dampening and theyre not too bouncy even though im quite low (tyre tucking front and rear) and i got them from awesome gti for £407 delivered or something. Well worth the money and this is the 3rd car ive chosen FKs for, ive ran silverline on my polo, konigsports on my m5 golf GTI and now the sport edition + on my Avant and i have no complaints of quality issues. However the silverlines were absolutely back brakingly hard!!

On my lupo GTI i was running KW V1 inox and they were quality, so comfortable and that was on a really light car so id imagine they would be even better on a heavier car.

But i would steer clear of TA technix, had them on my 1.0 lupo at 17 and even then they were shocking but what do you expect for £200!

I'd go for AP's if Damian can get them into your budget! I was more than happy with them on my old S3.
