Coil pack problems. Upgrade coil pack options ?!

Car was firing on 3 cylinders suddenly so i changed the spark plugs in my s3 ran well for a day then the loss of power under load and misfiring started again which leads to coil packs playing up but no faults coming up on the ethos.

I have the bolt down type coil packs

I was thinking of replacing the set but don't know what's best as I heard you can fit the red coilpacks from the 2.0 tfsi I this correct and if so is there a certain year or is it all of them?

Or there's an upgrade set on eBay for £90 but are not bolt down. Does this mean they won't sit properly or are they a different design that works without bolting down?

Awesome can supply a set for about £80 TFSI you may need an adapter I cant remember who but in the TFSI thread there was used of some OEM plastic modified ones.

ok thanks for info. is the adapter for the connecting plug or for holding the coil in place. have you done this conversion?
 
Bolt down coil packs very rarely fail.

In fact, I don't think I have ever seen a set fail.

Check ignition amp, as well as the wiring to the packs.

You'll need to rewire if you want to fit TFSI packs to an ME3 car.

The OP has an S3 dude... bolt down with internal amps, not like the AGU... he can just swap over to TFSI packs and use the OE adaptors in the link I posted

tuffty from what i've read TSFI coils fitted to a bam engine is plug & play again with adapters to just smarten it right ?

I just looked on the awesome website there is 2 sets £78 & £84, which set & whats the difference ?

Go for the one that say 06e. 07k are warned against on some yank forums. I got red ones anyhow :D

Any engine with the push in coil packs you can just replace easily with TFSI coils... the adaptors are purely for show in this case... on earlier DBW S3 (APY) and A3 TQS with bolt downs then again they are simply swapped out for TFSI but while the TFSI (and push down 20v packs for that matter) are held securely on the plug they will wobble about at the top as there is nothing to hold them... the only choice before was to buy the expensive alloy adaptors but now of course you can buy the cheaper OE adaptors and this will secure the packs nicely...

Early AGU engines with ignition packs can convert to later coil packs, not sure of the process as I have never done one but its popular with the AEB A4 owners stateside...

i have the same problem iv just orderd tfsi coils and adapters from dealers but not going to need them as its the lambda sensor
 
Just spoke to them on the phone and was told that these don't work on tha apy bolt down coil packs because the wiring plug isn't the same?!
 
Not convinced... have seen APY's running these but without a coil pack in front of me I couldn't confirm for sure but I am pretty sure they are the same plug... they do differ on the AGU though

vdcs says bank 1 sensor 1 im running a decat so im guessing its the one on that pipe as there is a hole for a sensor on the downpipe but its blanked off, can anyone confirm its the one on the decat pipe?
 
is the precat probe the one on my decat pipe as i cant see any other on the system unless theres one in the manifold there is space for one on the downpipe but its beed plugged off, am i right in saying my car only have one of the lambda sensors?
 
James it depends what year & engine your car is, older engines have 1 & newer engines have 2.

how much did you pay for them with adaptors?
was it for an apy engine?
