Lets get it on then, My 2.1 conversion

Andrew you are such a tease! Can't wait to see this baby finished and running properly!!

Thanks everyone

You know when i got the car the plan was to keep it standard bar a remap, how things change when one thing leads to another when you have to rebuild the engine due to a big end knock.

I'm really looking forward too getting her mapped and seeing how she stops on the monster brakes, as I'm on about the brakes i bet you can get bigger discs on under the TT 18's, I bet some 365mm discs could fit but what's 15mm anyway

Fitted my brakes today but i've lost my wind back tool for the rears

Also i've busted my V band clap on the exhaust so its off the road for a few days until the clap comes in the post

Not the best pics

F**king Hell !!! just tested the brakes and nearly went though the wind screen !!!

I really need to be carful, they need bedding in also need to be easy with them

Brake are all sorted now

I had a problem with the rear brakes binding but got that fix now as the slider was sticking

All in all the brakes are great, the only problem i have with them is when you do jump on the stopper the ABS can go nuts as there is so much force with the 6 pots and the 350mm discs. The other problem is that the pad as super crap that give off lots of dust and people that i have spoke to said that they can fade fast so i will change them at a later date

Fitted the S4 maf today also the engine seams smother and has better idle? I also had problems with the revs dropping fast but now the revs don't drop as fast, not sure if thats to do with the maf but hay its better

As people know i had to lower the engine in the bay to get the turbo in there but its now showing up other problems like the CV joints are starting to knock a little but i thought that may happen as all the geometry is all out of whack with the different angles now but i will leave fitting new the CV joints till after mapping and coilovers are fitted

Might have a Bentley gt maf about if that's any use? Andy might still have one at his that's not being used?

You'd have to sort a plug out for it. Give us a text if interested. Standard gt's are 560bhp and they still use the same maf's on the 650bhp models.

Paul Murray as in RSTuning Leeds? Can't think of a better man (apart from Bill) if so! Legend in Renaults especially.

may be worth seeing when its running next when logging, determining which end is causing abs to come in soon.. It *might* be rears when the front ends diving, unloading the rear

logging wheel speed sensors when you next drive and make this happen will confirm which ends doing what, it may give an indication on brake "balance", which is essential in it not fighting the esp/abs system on the car

Small update

Ditch the Hawk brake pads as they were crap and gave off so much dust, fitted some cheap Red Stuff pads and must say they are great for the money.

Booked the day for mapping

5th of Sept at RS Tuning , fingers crossed for some good Poweeeeer and Torques numbers

More problems

As you may or may not no i have had a idle problem with my car

I changed the brake booster pipe today thinking it was that but that hasn't helped at all and to be honest its made things worse.

There is a loud hiss from the bulk head which i thought was the booster hose? but it is coming from around that area? This hiss has got louder when you drive. All boost hoses look fine?

I took the lambda out and wiped it clean, i did notices that rattled when i shuck it but put it back in

I've looked at the liquid at the air fuel ratio and thats doesn't seam to be making much adjustments? it only goes up and down a very little? .940 been the max and .938 been the lower?

I did make a little progress on other things, I did manage to make a 4 in tip with Stainless steel Blitz air filter today before everything else went pear shaped

After that cam snapped it destroyed the head so i got another AEB head from Dani, It was ported to race spec and rebuilt with new valves as 2 were bent

Rebuilding the engine with a new block as there were a few scores in the bore i didn't like

Image0469_zps532e49b3.jpg

Its now at the machine shop getting bored out

I also had problems with the CPS wheel coming loose so that was tiged in place without any worry of it coming loose again

Just waiting for some ARP main stud kit to turn up as i stretched the standard bolts and some new tool steel wrist pins as i crushed the mild steel ones but it was lucky i stripped the engine down when i did the cam as i wouldn't of know of these problems.

Is it easier to take the engine out and leave the gearbox in?

Very easy

The head was off at the time, just took the pulleys of the side of the engine to give more clearance, unbolts it from the gear box, pull the engine to the side and drop it down

muchos cyl pressures..... stretching head bolts.. You were on st dones before? (surprised, given the big spec of everything else).. bending wrist pins too... good work.. hehe.. nutter andrew :)

i luv seeing your port work... work of art.

If i knew what i know now i would of built it differently thats why i'm doing it right now. Just so glad the cam snapped now and i stripped it down to inspect and clean as if it didn't i would of kept on thrashing it about and might of gone in a really big way taking out the engine and turbo!!.

I had ARP head bolts but standard mains, swapping to ARP main stud kit now and swapping to tool steel wrist pins

This head is so much better than the last head and should flow a lot more as its showed good gains on the flow bench

omg, a massive amount of time and work, hats off to you andrew, and i agree that head looks better than mayonayse ozzing out of a spam sandwich :)

Had some good new with a email from summit racing saying my tool steel wrist pins are on the way

New HD main bearings, race big end bearing and new rings came today. Still waiting on the ARP main studs but shouldn't be too long.

Block is still at the machine shop

What a cracking read. Love these type of build threads :)

once i start on the motor the AGU head i picked up is defo heading upto Andrew for some treatment!!

Time for a little update

The ARP main studs came so i got them fitted today along with my modified crank as it was in the CNC machine i decided to double dowel the crank to the flywheel. This is to stop the flywheel from turning on the crank even thought the bolts are torqued up, Stacey is using a diamond shim plate, The way i have done it works in the same way as the shim..
