My 2010 S3 was serviced (minor) at 30k.
It has just over 34k on it now and its saying that it needs a service in 2.8k or 30 days!!??

I'm confused. I thought the next service milage is at 40k with the S3 (major with haldex and stronic) I'll never do 2.8k in 30 days either!

I've also just changed the oil and oil filter.

Also I checked the oil today and there is mayonaise on the cap. Not loads but enough. I noticed this before the oil change. I took it for a good 50 mile run around snowdonia on sat(rapid) and then again yesterday (more chilled) but just noticed this today. From the other posts this seems to be normal but I didn't expect to see it after the long runs at the weekend. It has been cold though... Will it have built up since yesterday whilst the car was just sitting?
I can't see any beyond the cap. There was a tiny bit on the upper part of the dipstick (not the plastic bit at the bottom) I've wiped the dipstick and er.. re dipped it a few times and can't find any trace of emulsion.
I wiped the oil cap clean and drove the 6 miles home. I checked it and found a very thin coating when I got back.
The water bottle also looks clean...

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Bit of mayo on the underside of the filler neck is normal moisture buildup so I wouldn't worry about that.

When was is last serviced date/time wise as the oil service on fixed interval is 9k/12 months and "major" service 18k/24 months, which may be why it is showing service required.

But if it's on longlife then its another kettle of fish.

Hi bmh.01, thanks for the reply.

I've got the service book in front of me now. The longlife service box is not ticket so I'd sy its not on that.
It was last serviced on 27/04/12 at 30943 which kinda makes sense in time that it'll be a year between services but if I got it serviced in 2800 miles from now that'll only be 6000ish miles between services which isn't a lot.
Also it looks like the only thing that was actually done was an oil change.

I doubt I'm going to go back to Audi ever as they are too expensive and stuck up. I'll probably buy all the parts/oil myself to save some coin and get a specialist I trust to do it. But I want to get it right and look after the car.

How much should I be looking at for air filter, spark plugs, dust and pollen filter, haldex oil change, s tronic oil change and brake fluid?
Audi have quoted me £1174 and they can **** off.

don't know whether this will help.Just had an oil change (Edge fully synthetic oil) how expensive is that stuff and a oil filter change for my 1.9 TDI for £38.At National Tyres

£1174 is a joke, shouldn't be more than a few hundred really. Its about £150 in parts tops, the haldex and dsg oil is specific and reletively expensive but everything else can be sourced very reasonably.

I know right. Frickin stealers! It was £330 just for an oil change. Ok I'll source the parts etc... Do I really need to service it in 30 days time or can I wait for 2800 miles time? I've had the oil and filter changed HB. It was about £130 for me though

Its up to you really, if the oil and filter has been changed not long previously it'd be ok to wait. You'll need someone with VCDS to reset the service indicator though, I have it but i've no idea where abouts you are located.

Am I the only one that has a serious look of confusion on his face when someone says £330 for an oil change. How can anyone justify that, it's really shocking and incredibly annoying, especially for people that may think that is the norm. I had the minor service done on my car for £120 ish last year. I'm pretty sure that included a air con top up, from a large audi independent.

Ok I think I get this now...

The next service (due 12 months after the last) is just another oil and filter change not the major service (haldex, s-tronic, sparks etc) which is due at 38,000 miles. So because I've already done the oil and filter change (just did it early when I bought the car) I don't need anything doing apart from re setting the service indicator....

Then the next service type thing will be the major at 38k.

I spoke to the specialist (actually a caterham specialist but also do audi and VW) today and they're willing to do the work for the major if I get the parts 'as its me' ha. (audi can go jump) They're also going to reset the service light.

Phew, got there in the end.

Still not 100% about this mayonaise thing. Surely that can't be right for a 2010 high performer or good for the engine... I was also told that they put longlife 3 oil in when they did the change. Not sure if I'm happy about that. Think I might get them to do a compression test when I take it for the service light to be reset.

Thanks bmh :salute:

There is so much disparity between stealers servicing costs its unreal. Just booked my S3 in for its 1st service - I believe this is just an oil change, anti-freeze and filters and was quoted £182. ****** expensive I know but from previous posts £330 for an oil change is daylight robbery.

Mayo on the filler cap is normal buddy. Short frequent journeys cause this so its no biggy.

If it helps I've just booked in my 59 s3 manual, for the same 40k service etc with Nottingham Audi, it's on fixed price and of the top of my head it was £329 for the major service, that included fluids, filters, plugs and pollen filter, brake fluid change £59, haldex change was £79, mot £49 that also had some waffle about £750 cover included for mechanical failure on the next mot for free. Also inc courtesy car and wash n vac if you want/need.
At £1174 I reckon someone's pulling your chain. That's crazy :)

Cheers Brodster, just seems really weird that its a normal thing. I was ok (as much as I could be) with £130 for the oil and filter change just wish I'd remembered to say to them to put mobil1 in or something decent and not the long life stuff. Next time and from then on!

Yeah I've got the full quote from Audi here:
Labour Parts Total
Long life 2 oil and filter £187 £144 £331
Replace pollen filter £14 £16 £30
Replace air filter £14 £19 £33
Replace s tronic oil & fil £158 £78 £236
Replace sparks £72 £58 £130
Replace Haldex oil £57 £21 £78
Replace brake fluid £72 £13 £84

If you know anyone with a Costco card they do 4l Castrol Edge 5w30 in the correct spec for a little over £20.
